Rating: Summary: A NEW PHASE FOR SHAHRUKH. Review: Hi I have seen Devdas and it was another hit made by ShahrukhKhan. He plays the role of Devdas. His undying love for Paro, Aishwariya Rai, was unquenchable. He realizes that when he met Chandramuki, Madhuri. Jackie had mentioned that he had to drink alcohol in order to sleep and Dev slept without alcohol. After Dev couldn't forget Paro he started drinking. He tried his own case and convicted himself to drink till death. The lines in this wonderful movie was amazing. "You are a woman and woman don't dance infront of men like that. Women are mothers, sisters, daughters and wives."Dev said to chandramuki. He told Paro " I promise before I die I will come infront your house." These lines made the movie interested. Hey if you don't believe me see for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Review: This is the first Indian movie I ever went to see in the theatre. I've been collecting them for a couple years now and I love the entire cast of Devdas. What an absolutely beautiful, emotional film. The story, music, cinematography sets and cast are perfect. I recommend everyone to see it. I hope it wins the Foreign Film award, they certainly deserve it.
Rating: Summary: Pleasantly Surprised!! Review: I went to see "Devdas" with my cousin and was blown away! I have never seen a Hindi film and now I know how spectacular they can be. It reminded me of an old musical from the golden era of Hollywood. My only complaint is the movie was rather long at 3 hours and 15 minutes, but I attribute that to the long musical numbers that could have been shortened a bit. Most musical segments seem to have run 10 to 15 minutes and given there were 4 or 5 of these segments, it contributed quite a bit to creating that third hour. The lead actress (Paro) was absolutely amazing and her beauty was hypnotizing. But lets not forget the story of love and class struggles of early 20th Century India. It truly was a heartwrenching story. I recommend it completely. Bravo Bollywood!
Rating: Summary: coulda been better Review: Devdas was an excellent movie, but not the greatest of all time. Yes the ladies were superb and beautiful and did a wonderful job. They were meant for their parts, especially Ashwariya. But Devdas or Shahrukh, was not good! Whenever he came up, the movie went downhill! They should have chosen someone better for that part. It would have been a better movie. Still it is one of those movies you HAVE 2 see, an I must say, it was such a beautiful movie to look at the sets and costumes, I'd go even for just that
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: This movie ... so much, i went to see it with this guy and it was the most boring movie i ever seen, even the simpsons is better than this stuff, it was so stupid seeing those ugly indian girls dancing and singing and sounding like chipmunks the whole time, a total waste of my time
Rating: Summary: SPECTACULAR !!! Review: I was so anxious to see this movie and expected a lot since there was much hype. When I finally saw it, I had to agree that it was one of the best hindi films I have seen since Dil Chata Hai and Lagaan. Shahrukh Khan, my favorite actor, gives yet another applaud worthy performance. I can see why the director couldn't even think of choosing another actor for Devdas's role in the movie. It had to be Shahrukh Khan. All the main three characters Devdas (Shahrukh Khan), Paro (Aishwarya Rai), and Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit) gave an excellent performance. They all should be selected for best actor and actress this year. On the other hand, I was very dissappointed with Jackie Shroff. I thought choosing him was the main flaw of this movie. The director, Sanjay Lela Bhansali, makes yet another excellent film, another Big Hit movie. His previous movies Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Khamoshi were superb as well. Overall, Devdas is just Excellent (*****). Devdas and Lagaan are the pillars of the Indian Cinema right now. A MUST see movie!
Rating: Summary: as lucious as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam Review: Sanjay Leela does not disappoint after he won me over with the visually sumptuous Hum DIl De Chuke Sanam- where the cinematography, the music, costumes, sets and nuanced acting of usually "commercial" stars like Salman Khan were a wonderful surprise. Devdas has naysayers- people who would be shocked if a movie like Casablanca was remade. But I saw the film not as a remake of a classic, but as a movie on its own. I loved it. A reviewer writes that she needs to see the film again b/c she was reading the subtitles- well I did not need to read subtitles but I still need to see it again b/c I just could not absorb everything there was that begs to be appreciated.
Rating: Summary: Nothing Can Be Bigger and Better Than Devdas Review: Presentation of an undefeated love is what Devdas is all about. I don't think i have ever seen a better commercial movie then Devdas ever before in my life. I'm quiet a movie fan and frankly speaking i never liked Shah Ruk Khan before because i think he used to over act. But, with Devdas in my list, i think i was wrong. This is the lifetime performance by SRK and i don't think he could ever repeat such a thing again. He was just brilliant. Paro (Ash) is another love bird who had a similar impact on the audience like SRK. Her role was similarly powerful and impressive. You could see the emotions and the storyline just by Paro's performance. Madhuri is the name of sacrifice in this movie. She knew its not hers, but her love was the purest of all. She still kept loving and loving and loving even after knowing she isn't gonna get any thing. Khudos to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for creating a standard for good films in international cinema. If somebody has to learn how to make DRAMA films, see DEVDAS.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Introduction to Hindi Cinema Review: I'm a native California girl who doesn't speak a word of Hindi and I absolutely adored this lavish, tragic romance about missed opportunities, regrets and the sacrafices people make in the name of duty. I had read that "Devdas" is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made, but every penny is on the screen. Everything--the sets, the costumes, the music--creates an almost otherworldy atmosphere to this well-acted story. The only thing I didn't like about it was having to read the subtitles. There was just so much to look at that I'm missed some of it. I guess I'll just have to see it again.
