Summary: Ripped me to shreds
Review: This has to be the most beautiful, exceptional, horrifying, masterfully done movies ever made (live action or cartoon). Buy this and show it to anyone who would want to see it. I rented it from blockbuster and immediately bought it afterwards. I cried during the movie and had to stand out on my porch to get my wits back afterwards. If there was ever a list for greatest movies of all time (not just U.S. movies) this should be near the top.

Summary: Beautifully tragic
Review: I have been a fan of Miyazaki's work for a long time. He never fails to disapoint his viewers when he makes a movie, and Grave of the Fireflies is no exception. I have seen it more times than I can count, always with the same outcome, I'm in tears and utterly depressed for three days straight. The animation is fantastic, not even Akira can compare to this and rarely does that occure. Miyazaki is a true genious and his work will hopefully continue to be appreciated.

Summary: Most Heart Drenching Anime you'll ever see
Review: I would give this movie six stars if I could. It was excellent. For any one who still thinks Animation is just for kids.... just look at this movie and you'll see how wrong such an assumption that can be.

This movie was heart drenching. I practicly brought me to tears - a very hard task, I mind you. One of the most horrifiying thing I find about movies like this is the fact events like these really happened. That war does kill. I find it sad that the people of a nation, on both sides, suffer becuase of the goverment's actions.

An excellent movie; should be shown in schools, so that it might be known what horror a war can raviage.

Summary: Horridly true to life in a surreal sort of way
Review: I cry every time I watch this film. It has a deeper meaning for me in that my grandmother was one who experienced the fire bombings of Japan during WWII, but thankfully did not lose her family and home as did the characters of this film. This animated recreation of that terrible time has allowed me to better understand my grandmother and has revealed to me that what is really important in this impermanent world is family, kindness, relationships, and love.

Summary: No words can possibly do it justice
Review: The most heart wrenching picture of the bombing of japan and its most vunerable casualties. This movie has to be in a gallery somewhere, it must never be forgotten and never be relived!

Summary: An Asian point of view of WWII.
Review: This is the war in the eyes of Asians. Althoght the Japanese was considered the aggressive power during the war, thier people suffered a lot, too. This movie moves your heart and makes you re-consider if a war is worthied for the innocent people...

Summary: I never thought I would cry at anime.....
Review: I've seen countless movies about World War 2, but mostly from a German or American perspective, so I picked this film up to get a different view on the war. Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see. I rarely cry at movies, and even though I am an avid anime fan, I've never cried at an animated film. Actually, I didn't cry at this one either.....I bawled. The crew succeded in creating a little girl that was so real, that I completely forgot I was watching animation. The story was so absorbing, that you felt the chatacter's joys, pains, triumphs, and sorrows. The impending doom that hung from the beginning couldn't possibly have prepared me for the touching final scene with Setsuko. As I was watching the credits, I thought of my 7 year old brother, lying asleep in his bed, and I became filled with the horror of what those two kids went through. If soilders say that war is hell, then what do think the children must go through?

Summary: if you see one anime, see this one
Review: This movie is without a doubt one the greatest, saddest, and most tragic movies that I have ever watched. Trust me, if you have but 2 hours left to live, you will want to spend them watching this. The only movie that could possibly rival this one is from the same studio called Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I dont think I can bring myself up to watching it again..
