Summary: Awesome!
Review: What an awesome movie!

My father in his late sixties cried like a baby as watching this movie on TV. Of course he was ashamed but just couldn't help it. It recalled him to his old memory. In 1945, He was thirteen, almost Seita's age, and lived in the easten part of Tokyo where are annihilated by the greatest fire caused by air raids. Over a hundred thousands people were killed on March 10, 1945 (well-known as ''Tokyo Air raid") and on the horrible day, he lost his 7 year old brother and a couple of school friends.
56 years have passed now but he is still reluctant to go near his hometown because he hates to see Sumida River, where was once overwhelmed by heaps of burnt bodies .

Wars affect innocents. No exceptions.
"The grave of the fireflies" is not just a movie but great experience for all of us.

Summary: Best movie I've ever seen, animated or not.
Review: Many people will see this movie and think it's a great but depressing tale. Others may be unable to properly appreciate an animated movie. I personally think this is the greatest artist work I've ever encountered. When watching this film I didn't think "if I was in that position", I WAS in their position. It was completely real to me. The pure, and innocent love between Seita and Setsuko, the horrors of war, and desparate struggle was portrayed so strongly and passionately that I could write a book about the quality of this work.

Summary: Awesome movie for boys, girls, adults and children (age 13+)
Review: This is a sad, well animated movie. I think any one would enjoy it. In fact, It is animamation surpassing what I could believe! This is a well thought out movie. And if you're American: you will feel ASHAMED! Not one guesture or ovement is left out, and feeling and emotions played out perfect. Worth seeing. Worth buying. Even if you haven't seen it already. It...is...GOOD!

Summary: Grave of the Fireflies
Review: One of the most depressing stories ever told.

Although the artwork is very simplistic, it's still very well
done. As well there are many parts where you found how very
beautiful the scenery is. The story didn't seem overly deep,
however the story told is that of a struggle to live in times
of war.

Aside from the horrible depression you get from watching this,
it's a remarkable movie and worth the watch. Take some time
off, sit down put the movie in, have a fruit drop or two and

be certain to have some tissues beforehand so you don't get
up or use your sleeves.

Summary: The most touching movie I have ever seen
Review: I saw this at alot of anime websites as being one of the best animes ever made, and in the reviews everyone one said it was the saddest movie they ever saw and made them cry.
I wanted to see what the fuss was about so I bought it of amazon. When I received it I immediatly saw it to see what type of movie would make most people cry. I thought I was prepared for it but NOTHING could have prepared me for this movie. I just couldn't stop crying throughout the movie. I even had to pause it a couple of times to wash my face!!!!!

My advice for you is the see this, one of the the most compelling animations ever made. But be sure to have some tissues by your side and see what the fuss is about.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Summary: Deeply Affecting
Review: This is the most moving piece of animation I have ever seen and it beats many a live action film as well! It is beautifully drawn and tells such a powerful story. It is near impossible to see this film without ending up crying and reflecting on what war can do to all of us. And it is told in such a quiet, graceful way without any of the pyrotechnics we have almost come to expect from animated films.

BUY IT!!!

Summary: Very powerful and gripping story
Review: This is probably one of the most moving stories I have ever seen in motion pictures. As you probably know it is a tale of survival as a brother and sister struggle in the last days of World War II. I found to be a very touching and moving story about human resiliance, and ultimately futility in the face of insurmountable odds. One cannot help but crying at the end of the story. There is a powerful message if you care to look about the human struggle. The animation isn't great, but I think that was done on purpose to a certain extent. The picture quality is pretty decent, nothing spectacular, but it works. As with a lot of anime DVD's, the extras are basically some ads for some [bad] anime's and a language selection. Overall I think this belongs in any serious Anime-lover's collection!

Summary: Best movie ever!
Review: I simply could not watch this movie without giving it a review. I gotta say this is one of the most emotional movies I have ever seen. I would say it is by far the best anime I have ever seen and defiantly one of the best movies in general. Everyone needs to view this movie. It gives you a whole new view on life and what we take for granted. It's a shame a movie like this was not released in American theaters. It deserves an Oscar for Best Motion Picture. I will defiantly purchase this movie now.

Summary: Great film but....
Review:

Though this is NOT my favorite film, I don't hesitate to give 5 Stars to this beautifully animated, astonishingly realistic and heart-breaking story. When I first saw it, I cried and cried and determined to never, ever see it again (But actualy, I did a few years later).

As a Japanese, stories and films regarding the victims of noncombatants during the WW2 are not novel at all, for there are thousands of poingnant anti-war stories based on truth have been published or released after WW2. This film is one of the best of them.

To be honest, after reading quite a few reviews on the film, It was a shock to me that very few American people did seem to be informed of air raids, which killed approximately 500,000 of innocent citizens living in 150 cities throughout Japan....and this unofficial death toll does not include the victims of two atomic bombs.

Yes, I know Japanese started this war...and I know WHAT WE DID to other Asian contries. Please, anyone who read my comment don't take me wrong. I'm not blaming anyone or any countries. I was just shocked this kind of information tends to be SO limited, and made me stop and think there must be thousands of things I DO NOT know either as a Japanese...

Summary: So, so sad... but so, so good.
Review: This movie illustrated, quite poignantly, how the victims of our world's greatest (violent) conflicts and destruction are those who had nothing to do with them: the children. As someone of Chinese decent, I had a great deal of internal struggle relating to, digesting the concept of this film. That was until I saw it in whole and before I had reflected on the real message. More than meets the (common) senses, it is beyond simply a WWII film sympathizing with Japanese loss. The two children, could have been children in any country during time of war. Their suffering was the result of others' passiveness to help, of everyone's own selfishness, self-righteousness. And isn't that the ultimate root of all war and our world's suffering?
