Summary: A "real," not phony or flashy slice of (Cuban) life
Review: I can't say from personal experience how truly this film depicts Cuba, but from what my parents say, it's close. The characters drew me into the story. This is a love story, a sad story, a fantasy - there's a lot to it. Unlike so many American films, I didn't catch the same old cliches or tired gimmicks (like a bunch of bikinis to add "interest"). This movie pays attention to the details, and you will, too. It's enough to have made me contact a travel agency about a trip to Havana. Review: I have to say that I haven't been to Cuba but I will definetely visit one day. By watching this movie you'll know how primitive, how original, how poor and also how beautiful, how friendly, how much the Cuban people cherish their land, their lives. This is one of my favorite movies so far and you should watch it and own it as well.:)

Summary: This is how I remember Cuba
Review: I visited Cuba in December '98 and was so impressed with the Cuban people and their ingenuity. This movie is a comedy that depicts everyday life for Cubans and their struggles with the overly-bureaucratic, centrally-planned economy. Its a story about a funeral procession of sorts that begins in Guantanamo and ends up in Havana. With a few mishaps along the route, the love story between Candido and Yoyita and the other one between Gina and Mariano does a great job of bringing it all together. The best foreign film I've ever had the pleasure of seeing - and I'm not just saying that because I'm Cuban. SEE IT!!

Summary: An entertain, touching, and intelligent film...
Review: I was fortunate to catch this beautiful film at a theather. The cinematography was simple, but vivid and genuine. The actors and actresses did not make mistakes and rendered their roles well. I grew up in the Dominican Republic and could find characters similar to people that I knew in my youth. The love story touched me because I have felt like the main character and acted similarly. I have also thought that someday I'd cross paths with the ...well, I am not giving away the story. Suffice it to say that I prejudiced to give this film a raving review for depicting parts of my thoughts and actions. Can't get much better than that. This movie runs for just the right mount of time and with all the above said, plus the polical comments of my fellows below, I must give it a five. Yes some kind of award would be nice, but the whole cast should know that we sincerely feel they did an outstanding job. Thank *you* for treating us like intelligent people and entertaining us so beautifully. MEM

Review: It's a very beautiful movie about how a Cuban family deals with the death and prepare for a funeral. At the same time they celebrate the joy of life by rediscovering love. This film shows the traditional Cuba with it's picturesque landscapes, it's beautiful and innovative people and the world-famous Cuban music.
