Summary: A force as strong as a singularity.
Review: I love this movie, I relate somewhat to it and to some of the events and emotions epicted in this film. There is a force as strong as a black hole's singularity here. I cannot stop my emotions from getting out when I watch this movie and I have watched it several times. There are many messages in this movie, but the ultimate message is that our childhood experiences are what makes us and direct us and we bring them with us to the end of our days. They shape our lives and the way we see the world, perhaps deep inside we never truly grow up and we take with us those moments of happiness and disappointment forever. I have to stop writing now.............

Summary: A movie for movie lovers
Review: The ultimate love song for the movies. This film is sensitive and beautiful. I first saw Cinema in a college literature class and I knew I had to have a copy to share with my friends and family (we're all big movie buffs). The first time I saw it I almost cried - it's so touching. Even if you think it's predictable, the ending is one of the best moments in cinema history.

Summary: NOT AS GOOD AS ORIGINAL
Review: The "extra footage" of the director's cut deepens the understanding of the romantic aspects of the film, which is nice if you ADORE the film, but I don't think the reason I do love the film so is because of the romance. So, I recommend looking for the original version to purchase, BUT DEFINATELY SEE this version. It's interesting, just too long and too concentrated on the weaker aspects of the film. Fortunately, this DVD edition contains BOTH the original AND the "new" version. Enjoy. Ciao.

Summary: the director's cut was a great disappointment
Review: Most director's cuts of movies have novelty values. Some such as Blade Runner or the Extended Version of The Fellowship of the Ring not only enhance the experience but also made one wonder why the original versions were released at all. Sadly, the director's cut of Cinema Paradiso was a major disappointment. The addional footage in the first half, such as Toto losing his virginity were inconsequential, however the addition of a major sequence in the second half, when after the funeral, Toto met and rekindled his relationship with the now older Elena altered the trajectory of the movie and worst of all, diminished the emotionally charged ending.

The original version of Cinema Paradiso is one of my favourite films of all time. There is also little doubt that Tornatore is a wonderful film maker, however, in this case, the original editor(s) deserved praise.

Summary: New Version, Same Results
Review: This movie is the director's cut that Miramax Chief Harvey Weinstein chopped down into the US theatrical cut with which most American audiences are most familiar. The "new version" adds in extra bits here and there throughout the movie, but the most noticeable change is in the third act, where Toto's adult life is given more screen time. The story takes a darker tone here than in the rest of the movie, but it does not diminish the power and beauty of the ending, which has remained intact. This DVD is highly recommended for fans of the movie.

Review: reddifnes the term "tear-jerker" I defy anyone not to shed a tear at the end sequence of this movie. I will not go into plot as others have already done that. Let me say once and for all, no matter kind of mives you like, no matter if you don't like foreign films, see this movie.

Summary: AN ABSOLUTE TRIUMPH!
Review: First of all, I am an 18 year old male who is mainly into action and crime movies. I usually stay away from everything else. This movie however, is one of the best movies, let alone dramas, that I have ever seen. Coming from me, this is an excellent review. I can watch this movie countless times. The characters are all interesting, the story is great, and the soundtrack is beautiful and haunting. This is truly a masterpiece among movies. No matter what kind of movies you are into, "Cinema Paradiso" is a must have for any dvd collection.

Summary: A CLASSIC AGELESS FILM
Review: This movie has been one of my favorite films ever since I first saw it in 1990.It had a perfect musical score, great acting and a magical quality. It perfectly embodied various themes: love for the cinema, remenbrance of our past, love for our father and mother ,or significant figures. It tried to portray remenbrance of that first significant adult love but in my opinion with less success. At the end of the movie you wondered why Elena , Toto's great love, had vanished.
Now after watching the original director's cut I have to say that this is the real movie we should have seen. It's true that it is long, maybe too long, but now the storyline of Toto's great and eternal love for Elena is complete, it gives closure someway to this beautiful love story. In my opinion the final 20-25 minutes of this cut are simply magnificent, tears will probably come, watching two persons deal with facts that affected their lives forever. The movie is less magical but more realistic
I hope the movie is rereleased in DVD in the USA with the two versions. You will truly enjoy it.
