Summary: Great
Review: English film made by the director of "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells". Lock Stock was a classic and did well in most countries but America. Snatch is not a follow up but a film featuring similar elements. It is set in an English underworld of illegal boxing matches hit men and Jewel Heists. The film is in reality a comedy but it is a violent one. It has a complex structure which is the interweaving of of three basic sets of characters who are invovled in fixing a fight and trying to recover a stolen diamond. Unlike many comedies it falls outside the normal formulas and the twists and turns of the plot have you in stiches. The DVD is probably better than the film as it is easier to understand the dialogue using the subtitle function. Even Brad Pitt is good.

Summary: Entertaining
Review: The movie is hard to follow because of the little subplots that are going on, not to mention the language. If you are not British it can get a bit confusing. All the characters connect to one another in some way. It is highly entertaining once you understand the gist of where its going. You may need to view it another time. The Brad Pitt character is really funny. I love the way he talks, sometimes I understood him and sometimes I didn't, no matter how many times I listened to him. The aggressive style in which Ritchie directs is fun to watch and the cool dialouge and plot scenarios make it a movie worthwhile to see. It is not as engrossing as Pulp Fiction as this movie has been compared to, by other viewers but still a very fun movie to watch. Lisa Nary

Nothing yet, no nominations for it have been announced and it wasn't widely viewed because it's from overseas (the U.K.). People don't know what they're missing.
What I give it: 96% Since I haven't been writing reviews for you until now, you may wonder what 96% is worth. It's worth the chance to see the POPE tap-dance on a cafeteria table. Snatch is great because of the acting that went in to making an amazing script into an amazing movie; but that's not why you should stop by Blockbuster on your way home from work/school. You've probably seen "great movies" before and hated them because you saw flaws that the reviewers didn't. What makes this movie good is the lack of throwaway lines and unnecessary scenes. Every part of the movie is important to watch; so Ritchie throws in jokes and camera effects to make the monologues bearable to impatient British and U.S. audiences (and U.S. spells US). <Wow, that's great, now what am I looking at>?
Snatch centers around several individual groups of criminals who try to get rich off of diamond robberies and unlicensed boxing matches (The Score, Heat, Go, and Fight Club combined). The main character who tells you who everyone else in the movie is goes by the nickname "Turkish". Turkish is a boxing manager who gets into trouble with almost every other character in the movie, including Mickey (Brad Pitt), a "piker" (a piker is a cross between a gypsy and bum). Mickey's boxing talents catch Turkish's eye, and the manager does everything he can to please Mickey in the hopes that Mickey will make Turkish his manager. At the other side of the character spectrum is Frankie (Del Toro), an armed robber who gets into trouble in London after his biggest diamond heist. Every character afterward is somehow part of both the smuggling of Frankie's diamonds and the illegal boxing matches that Turkish funds to "keep the roof over my head". The diamond that Frankie carries with him is actually the drive behind the movie, and Turkish's fights are a device to get all of the characters (of course, they all gamble) into the same area.
The movie doesn't revolve around the protagonist and narrator, however. It revolves around the lead villain of the film, nicknamed "Brick Top". Brick Top a gangster who funds illegal boxing matches and dogfights who becomes involved in the smuggling of Frankie's diamond while trying to insure his deal with Turkish. Brick Top is the most sinister villain in the movie and the most interesting villain of modern cinema as of late (in my opinion).
Another character that is important to the movie at the end is the dog, nicknamed "dog". The dog was Mickey's before he sold it to a trio of thieves, and the four are the funniest characters in the movie. The fact that amidst all these unique characters Ritchie was able to make the dog an inseparable component in the movie helps to show how complex the plot is.
<I like movie hits. How is the music>?
The music is 60'-70's retro-techno music (no disco or hard rock); and it moves quickly.
<I hate it when you just see everything from one, bland angle. I could go the theatre if I wanted to, but this is a MOVIE. What about the cinematography>?
The camera angles are great, but the best part about the cinematography is the editing. A lot of dull movements (getting up, putting on glasses, loading gun) are cut down to save time. If a guy puts on his shirt, he reaches, you blink, and it's on. He starts to load his gun and he's already firing. This doesn't look choppy at all, and adds to the overall quality of the film.
I DEMAND THE VIOLENCE, PROFANITY, AND (nudity). HATH THIS MOVIE WHAT I NEED?
Profanity is abundant. Chris Rock has never said the F-word as many times as this movie has per-scene. These people are dangerous criminals, and if they can mutilate people beyond recognition they can curse. And they do.
Violence, eh? This movie should be famous for creative death-scenes. I won't ruin them for you.
The nudity is split-second and only happens twice in the film. Enough said.
FINALLY, TELL ME THE BAD NEWS
This is a British film. The accents are working-class. The plot is exceptionally good but more complex than Ludlum's novels and it moves a lot faster.

Summary: Garbage
Review: This movie is trash. I feel guilty even spending any time thinking about it, so low on the hierarchy of artistic achievement does it sit. But it manages to be bad in several very interesting, novel ways. It's a new form of terrible. The movie is beautifully shot, for example. It has learned how to be flashy and shallow from a generation of music videos and special effects. Wow. Bravo. The plot, too, is reasonably interesting. There are certainly too many undifferentiated characters, but overall, the story could have been adapted into a good noir type movie. But instead, Guy again tries to appeal to the surface generation, and succeeds in making a movie about as deep as a kiddie's waiting pool, and with as much intellectual value as a Burger King placemat.

Summary: One of the best films in the last 10 years
Review: Personally, I'm not a film fan. I mean, I can watch a good film and enjoy it, but even some of the better ones won't have me rushing to watch them more than once or twice. I never buy films, just rent them or record them off the TV. It's simply not something that concerns me - once you've seen it and you know what's coming then where's the surprise? Why waste your cash? Not Snatch. Snatch is a film that I can watch over and over. I watched the intro alone 5 times in one morning. I simply cannot say enough good things about this film. The only other film that compares is Braveheart (although where Braveheart is simple yet highly effective Hollywood film, Snatch is the opposite - gritty, complex, British and full of black humour). This isn't even a comedy, yet I found myself laughing more than I ever did when I watched Scary Movie, Meet The Parents or any other naff cliche you can think of. Not that this is a cheap laugh. It also has times where you near on cry - they're that powerful. Sometimes its simply all out war, with gans blasting and boxers fighting. The music is also slick - the Russian acoustic guitars tickle my ribbs, while the fight music goes through my head every day (and I listen to metal f'crying out loud!). The characters Sol, Vinny and Tyrone are also some of the funniest in the film ("Never underestimate the predictablity of stupidity") while Brad Pitt is hilarious as the "sweet-talking tattoo-sporting pikey" (to some extent he steels the show). Mike Reid doesn't once make you think of Eastenders and Benicio Del Toro is as cool as ice. Vinnie Jones is his usual snarling self but its the grim reaper Brick Top that is the scariest character in the film. Many people know Guy Richie from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but as good as that film is, it doesn't have the sheer revisitablity of this masterpiece. The comparisons to Lock Stock are justified, true, but what does that matter when the delivery is this good? Warning though, the humour is very English, as are the references and dialect - although with the amount of good comments coming from American's as well it doesn't seem to be too much of a problem. If you haven't seen it, watch it. And you have, watch it again!

Summary: Guy Richie does it again...
Review: Snatch succeeds at the same thing Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels did, along with a little more. This film, not related to Richie's last, is very similar. It has the lovable lowlives, witty dialogue, and high speed camera tricks. This story however, revolves around a pair of underground boxing promoters. One's Turkish (who also plays the agent in The One), the "brains of the outfit" who does all the talking, and the other is the clumsy, spineless Tommy. Tommy's always getting Turkish into trouble and Turkish finds some way to get out. They stick together cuz they're mates(English for friends). Like Lock,Stock... the movie branches and has several intertwining plots/characters. Turkish and Tommy have a friend named (from what i remember) Gorgeous George who's supposed to fight in a match later (that's fixed). The fixer is a ruthless curmudgeon named Brick Top, a guy who has no mercy and loves to feed his enemie's pieces to his prized pigs. Anyway, Turkish wants Tommy and George to get a new trailer from these Gypsies b/c his is falling apart. We are then introduced to Brad Pitt, who's an incomprehensible Irish Gypsy. Nobody can understand him cuz of his accent. This a lot to take in, but when you watch it, hilarious results follow. Throw in some other shady types: That bearded Russian actor who always plays gangsters in movies, who in this plays...a gangster, Vinnie Jones (fans of Lock, Stock should remember him), a group of Black thieves who always seem down on their luck, and an old diamond salesman who pretends to be Jewish (accent, clothing, and posture) b/c he works in the Jewish diamond district. It'll provide the same excillarating ride Richie's last movie did.

Summary: Snatch baby
Review: I'm not sure what the editorial review is talking about, reading it I ended up shaking my head. Snatch is in no way whatsoever formulatic, sure many compare it to its prequel of sorts "Lock Stock.." but they are both in the same vein and tell a continuing story. But back to Snatch. I rarely give out 5 stars, yet this movie deserves it. The story moves at a quick pace and is very unpredicitable. Along the way, we are given stellar performances by Brad Pitt (not just a pretty face, the man can act. see this, se7en, fight club, etc.), Denis Farina (hilarious in the little screen time he had), Rade Sherbedgia as Boris the Blade (who also provides many hilarious moments), and Alan Ford as a kingpin who has a rather...unusual way of disposing of his victims (oink oink). The movie is billed as an action flick, which it has a lot of, but it could just as easily be billed as a comedy. The dialouge is witty and realistic, and once again the characters are vibrant and played extremely well by this ensamble. The only small problem I had with the movie at first was the heavy british accent nearly everyone uses (the movie is set almost entirely in London), which can take some getting used to, but do NOT let that dissuade you from seeing this movie. Very Highly Recommended

Review: (4 1/2 STARS) 'Snatch' is pure wild, zany fun. Expect to laugh out loud, and be reeling from the breathtaking action. From the writer/director of 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels', 'Snatch' is the most fun you can have watching a movie right now. The extras on the DVD are great, and worth the extra time to watch.

Summary: Simply The Best
Review: Snatch is simply the best movie ever made. There is no other, no better, Snatch stands alone, at the top of the heap of classics such as american pie or citizen kane. Snatch, guided to the light by extraordinary director Guy Ritchie, has combined fast cuts and great editing with an extraordinarily comedic yet unique plot. You feel for each character, and you laugh along with them. I must say that I have not seen Ritchie's other movies, and therefore have no reason for comparison, but this movie is great. The acting, the writing, and the directing will take your favorite movies list and smack it upside the head.
Move out of the way, Gilmore. Snatch is coming through.

Summary: Hilarious
Review: It's the same as Lock, Stock... I'll agree. Identical storyline. but I feel this film is superior, and alot funnier. I thought there were some hilarious scenes and a few little jokes that you might miss. I can't stop watching this movie. Some people must not get the British humour, or maybe Americans are stupid. I don't know what it is, but people just don't get the movie. It's like it is to hard to think about a movie, everyone's to use to Die Hard style plots. I enjoy this movie, and anyone who enjoys English humour or liked Lock, Stock, this is for you.
