Rating: Summary: Worth watching, but some way short of greatness Review: A very good plot offers opportunities for a fine, engrossing movie, but you finish up thinking that the director and scriptwriter wasted some of the chances. The dialogue is a little ragged, as is the portrayal of the relationship between the wife and her lover. But parts of it are funny in the best film noir sense, and it's worth watching on a cold February night in central Europe.
Rating: Summary: THE ACME OF TENSION AND SUSPENCE Review: Blood simple must be the one of best 10 Film noir in the history. It's hard to believe that this moive is Coen Bros' debut film... Since 'Citizen Kane', 'Blood simple' is the most outstanding and amazing debut... I lament that this movie is being forsaken gradually... You coudln't see this movie less than three times!
Rating: Summary: This Movie Will Make you a Fan of the Cohen Brothers Review: This movie had everything, laughs, mystery, murder and a neverending climax that leaves you breathless. The first of many wonderfully wacky films by the Cohen Brothers.
Rating: Summary: not just for cohenheads Review: First motion picture by the oft imitated cohen siblings contains more hits than misses. In this tale of adultry, murder and going simple, the brothers build suspense expertly, both with a compelling story (expertly paced), and exquisite direction and cinematography. Not as funny as many of their later films, but impeccably acted, M. Emmett Walsh is a standout.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but unusual movie Review: Blood Simple was an unusual film in plot, but certainly worth the time. Keep an eye on the Detective ... his character is not emphasised in the beginning but he is central in the overall makeup of the movie.
Rating: Summary: One of the Coens' Best- a truly great film noir Review: This is a brilliantly plotted film noir from the Coen Brothers, the creators of "Fargo" and "The Big Lebowski." This is their first film, and their talent immediately makes itself known. All the performances are great in here, but the one to keep your eye on is M. Emmet Walsh as Detective Visser. His character is the movie's center.
Rating: Summary: Coen's Debut film... Simply Wonderful Review: Before I talk about the film, a word about the wonderfully funny DVD audio commentary by "Kenneth Loring" of "Forever Young Films". Brilliantly tongue in cheek, a posh sounding historian offers some of the most ridiculous comments yet to run along with a film. Now onto the wonderful film by the Coen Brothers... (Raising Arizona, Fargo, Miller's Crossing). BLOOD SIMPLE takes the thriller genre and twists it 180 degrees. The extremely tight screenplay introduces us to several wonderfully dysfunctional people, including Abby (Frances McDormand), Ray (John Getz) and Marty (Dan Hedaya). Rather then take their love triangle to afternoon talk shows, they resort to murder... Just to make the whole thing all the more interesting, a gumshoe (M. Emmet Walsh) is involved to screw things up even more. The cinematography is wonderfully shot by Barry Sonnenfeld, director of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, GET SHORTY and the upcoming BIG TROUBLE. And the musical score by Carter Burwell perfectly supports the scenes tension. The wonderful film is often reminiscent of their later film, FARGO. I am very glad to be able to see this film again with a wonderul audio and video transfer. But, if truth be known, the biggest surprise is the audio commentary. That alone is worth the price of admission...
Rating: Summary: a simple story, a bit gruesome Review: I didn't really enjoy this movie. The story is of a love triangle that leads to a contract killing that goes bad. There are twists and turns to the story, but they are the only things that keep the story going and they didn't really seem that fascinating to me. The answers to the questions that arise are answered fairly quickly so there's not much tension or mystery built up. There's some gore. There's a pretty good joke near the end. It's a chance to see Frances McDormand, who I think is a really good actress, in an early role.
Rating: Summary: BLOODY GOOD FILM NOIR Review: THIS IS A GREAT CULT DVD TO WATCH AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR. YOU GOTTA LOVE EMMET WALSH AS A CHARACTER ACTOR!
Rating: Summary: New Life Review: This film gave much needed new life to the horror genre! As for story telling it seems to have stood the test of time, and is still riviting with comedic/horror twists and turns. A classic!
