Summary: Funnier the second time around.
Review: I really liked this movie when I saw it in the theater but some of the jokes sunk in so much deeper upon seeing it the second time on DVD. Like "This Is Spinal Tap" it's a classic that will be revered for years to come. And it should be noted that the DVD contains many scenes that were cut from the original film. These scenes were obviously not deleted because they weren't good enough but probably were cut just to keep the film from running too long. A lot of the deleted scenes are as funny as anything that made the final cut. I highly recommend purchase of this DVD.

Summary: Watch this movie for one reason
Review: The one reason? Fred Willard. Good Lord, this guy is hysterical in this flick. As a play-by-play man with virtually no clue at all, he completely steals the movie. I had heard critics praise his performance before I actually saw the movie myself, but I had no idea he would nail the part to such an extent. Overall, the movie is pretty amusing, and there are moments of laugh-out-loud hilarity, but the scattershot humor becomes constant the moment Mr. Willard appears. Worth a look (and a laugh) for this performance alone.

Summary: Very funny
Review: This movie is hysterical - every bit as good as everyone who saw it before me said it would be. And it's even better when you consider that this fake documentary was essentially unscripted - I didn't know this until about halfway through, myself. Christopher Guest (the mastermind behind This Is Spinal Tap) seems to have just kind of told everyone who their characters were and set some guidelines as to where he wanted them to go and then let them improvise the rest. It works pretty well, too, the vast majority of the time. At first I was a little worried - the opening sequence in which all the main sets of characters are introduced is a bit dodgy. But it can't be helped, those scenes set the stage for everything that comes later. Once you've got a handle on who these people are, the hilarity is essentially non-stop. No-one gets spared: Gays, white trash, gold-diggers, yuppies, colour commentators... they all get lampooned - one or more of them is bound to remind you of someone you know, that's for sure! I think my favourite characters were the overwrought yuppie couple (Parker Posey is especially good, as always). Others will doubtless choose the gay couple, since John Michael Higgins' Scott is one of the funnier send-ups of a flamboyant gay man in recent memory. Fred Willard's clueless announcer is exasperating and hilarious by turns. And, of course, everyone gets plenty of laughs out of Cookie's promiscuous past! I especially enjoyed the general theme of parodying people who take themselves just a bit too seriously. The DVD doesn't have a whole lot of extras, but those it has are well-suited to the film. Director commentary is a must here, as are the deleted scenes. There's also a bit about dog owners, which rounds it out nicely. While it's not likely to make anyone's all time ten best list, Best in Show is very good, very funny movie.

Summary: The FUNNIEST- but only if you "get" dog shows, NOT PC
Review: This movie was by far the funniest movie of 2000. However, I am sort of involved in showing dogs and am a veterinarian so I see "dog people" every day. I was most impressed by two things. First of all the amount of time the cast had to spend really watching people at dog shows. They got the best, and worst, to a "t". This is what makes the movie the funniest. Secondly, this movie was made basically adlib. They would set up the scene and where it should go but- no script. They all played off each other. BRILLIANT! If you watch the credits, you will notice the dogs in the film are the real deal. They are pros and champions. I wonder what they were thinking during the filming. I bet they were laughing so hard they pee'd their pants- or the floor I guess.:-)

Summary: "Best" In Show!!!!
Review: This is one of my favorite movies! Guest did wonderfully directing, yet i think he was better as the small town bloodhound owner with the tackle shop. My favorite characters were the two women with the poodle, Rhapsody in White. I feel the acting in this film was wonderful and the actors carried the roles well. I felt they were suited for the job and were great at delivering the comedy. This movie is hilarious from start to finish, you'll love it!!

Review: When I rented this movie people said it was funny, well they are very wrong. This movie was very very very stupid and boaring and weird at times. If you want to see this movie let me give you some advice save your money and don't.

Summary: Not "best", but good enough.
Review: Another "mockumentary" from Christopher Guest, this time about wacky pet-owners at the made-up "Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show". One wonders if this technique of moviemaking can be overdone: *Best in Show* is certainly not as funny as *Waiting for Guffman*, and the technique lends itself to laziness . . . by which I mean that "mockumentaries" are easier than traditional story-scripts. It relies too much on the actors, and saves the Guest the trouble of such mundane technicalities as setting up shots and scene composition. Thankfully, Guest's actors (Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Michael McKean, and the usual gang of zanies) are experienced enough comics to pull off most of their improvised material. Particularly successful are Catherine O'Hara as a suburban housewife with a sordid past; the two announcers at the Dog Show, Fred Willard especially, in an absolutely riotous turn as a vulgar Dan Dierdorf-type meathead; and Guest himself as a hick bloodhound owner and aspiring ventriloquist (to see him run beside his dog at the show is to understand the meaning of the word "ridiculous"). But with all this going for it, the movie takes another step back by not featuring more of the dogs themselves, thereby losing some true heart amidst all the caricature.

Review: My husband and I were waiting for this movie to come out in DVD, so the day it did we ran and bought it. BIG MISTAKE! I was expecting a comedy about dog shows, what I got was a mock documentary about the people who show the dogs. Watched it through to the end kept hoping there would be something good I could say about this movie, WELL, I CAN'T!

Review: I watched this movie for 45 minutes and the only funny parts were the two homosexuals in the meat market buying kidneys for their two Shi-Tzu's and the couple with their dog at the dog psychologist. All of this happened in the first 10 minutes. Thank God I only rented this piece of garbage.

Review: This movie I think could have been so much more. It just seemed to drag on and I chuckled a few times but nothing really struck me as really funny. As far as mockumentarys go, I recommend the far superior "Drop Dead Gorgeous".
