Summary: A Suggestion for a Future Movie Project
Review: We loved Guffman and consider it a masterpiece of comedy. Saw Best in Show and it was good too, but not quite Guffman.We would like to suggest a subject for a future movie -- the ubiquitous phenomenon recently -- the BOOKCLUB!!! We have belonged to a few and they are ultimately kind of nutsy. The guy who always wants to lecture about his knowledge of military history (no matter the subject of the book under discussion), the lady who comes to every meeting and never says a word, the club that dresses up in the period of the book, the ones that have pot luck. Summary: Incredibly funny!
Review: I've seen this movie five times & each time laughed until I cried. Christopher Guest is a genius. The movie is well cast. The fact that it is mostly ad-lib makes the characters wonderfully human and wonderfully funny. And in the midst of all this humor, there is a beautiful love song composed by Christopher Guest, that while performed in a comical setting, is very moving. Adult subject of one conversation perhaps gives it its "R" rating, and there is a small amount of foul language, but none are offensive and all are handled comically & tastefully. I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: Where have I been?
Review: First heard about this movie last week from a Best of Shows preview, rented it last night and just finished skimming all 146 reviews. Have never used the rewind button so often in one movie (ex: The spaceship mark has grown in radius but not in circumference or diameter). Never involved in community theatre, but church choir's full of it too! Plus, Texas is full of small towns with the Texas Stop Sign (ie Dairy Queen). What would Corky have done with $100,000?

Summary: Waiting for Guffman
Review: What made this movie is the writers ability to portray all of those quirky people you knew in small towns. The movie is funny, yes, but their depiction of small town life blended with your own (however scattered those memories might be)put the movie into a whole new humor catagory. There is a scene where Parker Posey is talking about her job at the Dairy Queen and she goes on and on and on about the drinks she makes and why someone may drive-thru the stand. It's perfect! Life is a bit tedious in a small town for a teenage girl and it comes across the screen brilliantly. We're having a 'Waiting for Guffman' party soon. It will be blast for our off-center humor!

Summary: Fun, funny and oh my gosh...intelligent!
Review: Waiting for Guffman was one of those, I feel like seeing a movie but there is nothing good out, moments. Although, I had heard people say it was funny, it didnt convince me. Only when I was consumed by boredom in a small town and the desire to go out to see a movie, did I finally give it a shot. And then began my mission to make sure every person I knew saw it. The cast is excellent, quite a few "oh I know him's"......the format is documentary-esque.... the characters are different, raw and lovable, you will remember it and quote the lines. "I'll always have a home at the DQ" And the ending is a twist! You have to see this, I highly recommend it.

Summary: Keep paying attention, or you'll miss something funny
Review: Ah, the townspeople of Blaine, Missouri. This movie must be seen at least a dozen times--once or twice a day for the first week of owning it is a good start. The jokes never get stale. It wouldn't be a bad idea to copy the movie on an 8-hour tape four or five times so you can have it running continuously. Every single person in this film is hilarious, no matter how big their part. Like the scientist who studies the landing spot created by the martian ship: "Which brings me back to the number 5. There are five letters in the word Blaine. Mix those five letters around, you get Nebali. Nebali, the name of the planet the aliens came from, far, far far away." You may not find this review helpful. That's OK, it doesn't matter, just so long as you buy the movie. Or rent it and never return it. Just see it, and you will understand.

Summary: Corky St. Clair For President
Review: What Guest learned under the tutelage of Rob Reiner in Spinal Tap he brings to fruition in Guffman. Cutting edge, esoteric cynicism is completely lost in his believable, unbelievable characters. This is what a "Doc" is supposed to look like. There are only 2 other Doc Directors that compare...Jacob Young and Errol Morris

Summary: FUNNIEST MOVIE ABOUT THEATRE EVER?
Review: It just may be. There are certainly other great "theatre" movies (NOISES OFF, eg) but none have come close to catching the true cheesiness of community theatre (I should know, my job is running a community theatre). This movie is almost too funny sometimes...everything rings true. My favorite scenes include Corky's burst of anger at the city council, the Remains of the Day lunchbox, the...oh, jeez, the list just goes on. The movie also has a sweetness and sadness to it (just like SPINAL TAP). These people are deluded, and occasionally their sadness seeps through. YOU MUST SEE IT if you have a sense of humor and have ever seen a community theatre production. CHRISTOPHER GUEST is the last couple of decade's greatest satirists. And FRED WILLARD is great for this kind of stuff.
