Summary: "Laugh out Loud!"
Review: This is, simply, one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Maybe once every year or so, I see a movie where I'm laughing nonstop. This is the latest. It's a "mock"umentary, as you have probably read, of a small Missouri town and the flamboyantly (but not to anyone in town) homosexual theatrical maven Corky St. Clair (Christopher Guest). Corky wants to produce a play in honour of the town's anniversary, using the enthusiastic if inept townsfolk.What makes this movie so funny? It takes itself very seriously, which only makes the actions and comments of Corky and the townsfolk that much funnier. The comedy is very subtle and satirical (which does not appeal to everyone). And, most importantly, the cast seemed to have a ball in their roles. It's nonstop laughs, so watch it and enjoy.

Summary: Unfunny, overall a desperate attempt at humor
Review: I dont understand why this film is such a cult classic. It had funny acting, but there wasnt hardly any plot to it, and none of it was funny. it is far from a masterpeice- I think it is over credited from the direction of Christopher Guest and its limited release of only 64 theatres. My friends said that this movie was so hilarious-the portrayal of a small town and white trash. Well to say the least their humor must be a bit primitive. I have nothing against low-budgeted films, but this documentary film was incredibly boring. I dont reccomend this to anyone. Its a terrible attempt at humor beginning to end.

Summary: A sleeper that will be a classic.
Review: This is a film that I'm truly looking forward to owning (lets see that DVD folks!). This film is filled with too many one-liners to mention. Like his other "mocumentaries," Christopher Guest creates characters that, while quirky, are lovable. The acting seems totally adlib (I know better). I guess this kind of comedy is not for everyone. There is no in-your-face humor or slapstick. It's all very subtle. Bravo to a great comedy!

Summary: Picture This: "The Simpsons" Meets "Spinal Tap"
Review: Were I on a desert island equipt with a DVD player and could only bring one movie -- this would be it. The brainchild of Guest, this improvisational comedy is about a troupe of self-celebrating, goofy, semi-talented small town actors who put on "Red, White, and Blaine," a musical about their small, midwestern town's 150th anniversary. It is a combination of the humor and freshness of the classic movie "Spinal Tap" and the razor sharp, topical humor of television's "The Simpsons." What could be better? What I expecially like about _Guffman_ is that it's a vacation from the type of please-everybody humor you usually see in big studio pictures. Instead, much of _Guffman_'s humor lies in the screamingly funny characters portrayed by the actors. (Christopher Guest as the flamboyant, easily excitable director is absolutely priceless.) Also, listen carefully to the words of the "Stool" song from "Red, White, and Blaine." Hysterical! Simply put, I don't have enough good things to say about _Guffman_.

Summary: WHAT IS EVERYONE ELSE SEEING HERE?
Review: I bought this video because the reviews were overwhelmingly good. Personally, I just don't see what everyone is raving about. Yes, the acting was great, but that's it. No fascinating story. No fascinating characters. If you want a really funny film about a small-town production, get "A Midwinter's Tale." It is far superior to "Waiting for Guffman" in every aspect.

Summary: No More Waiting
Review: This movie was done in with spectacular creativity and enthusiasm. I can't remember a time when I sat down with a friend and laughed harder than during Waiting For Guffman. The actors contribute phenomenally to the script's sarcasm and humor. If you are in for a hearty laugh and a lot of smiles, this is the movie to watch, and I don't say that half-heartedly. This movie is hysterical.

Summary: Gut wrenchingly hilarious
Review: This mockumentary of a small town's 150th celebration is absolutely hilarious. Corky St. Clair, author and director of the town's play "RED WHITE AND BLAINE" is a sensitive ("I'll just go home and bite my pillow") guy who wants to see his play and his prized actors hit Broadway. As such he gets one man from Broadway, Mort Guffman to agree to attend the plays opening. Anyone from a small town or who's ever been in or around the production of a town play should find this film greatly enjoyable as you can relate. In addition this film is chock full of catchy tunes and great one liners from "He shops at Wal-mart...He doesn't even support the town" to Blaine being the "stool capital of the world". A must see for anyone interested in a great laugh.

Summary: Tradgedy of 'GUFFMAN' brilliant, and INCREDIBLY HILARIOUS!
Review: Christopher Guest certainly had his mind on creating a "Spinal Tap" for the world of the theater when he created that humble little town of Blaine, Missourri with a heart of gold, and ordinary people in right place at the wrong time. This movie works in magic in many ways. It's filmed as a "mock-umentary", and the cast becomes not only hilarious, but just plain lovable. If you think about it, this is you or I trying to make something big out of something small. There's of course the tradgedy of "GUFFMAN" which comes with the moral of it. In our moment of triumph, when we reach that goal, all of our talents used up to the extent we are exhausted of them, anything can happen, and often does. "Guffman" is a tribute to that spirit, the characters that are tragically flawed by it, and the total comedic stylings of Christopher Guest. A brilliant movie that will refuse to let go of your funny bone!

Review: "Waiting for Guffman" is a treat, a pseudo-documentary covering the preparations for an amateur show celebrating the anniversary of the town of Blaine, Missouri. If you were raised in a small town the size of Blaine, or if you have ever taken part in community theater, you'll recognize many of the people in the town and in the show. For instance, there are the city officials and boosters, bursting with pride for a town (the "Stool Capital of the World," also known for a UFO landing) that few outsiders would be proud of. There are local residents turned amateur actors, blissfully unaware of their lack of talent, and full of enthusiasm for a so-bad-it's-funny historical show ("Red, White, & Blaine"). Featuring a talented cast (often unscripted and improvising) led by director Guest, "Waiting for Guffman" is an eye-wateringly funny and still charming, loving look at small-town civic pride.

Review: Waiting for Guffman is the funniest movie in the world - IF you pay attention to it.. The best thing about it is, no matter how many times you watch it, you see something new and funny everytime.. I've been watching it regularly with different friends for over a year now and still discover new funny things.. It's great!! I recommend it to anyone with even a splinter of a sense of humor. Nice job Christopher Guest!!
