Summary: Waiting For Guffman
Review: It was 11:00 at night, nothing good on TV, and I felt like hitting the hay, when on the TV Guide channel I saw that in about 5 minutes a movie called "Waiting For Guffman" was coming on. I thought I would give it a shot so I watched it, and was blown away by it. It is surely one of the top 10 funniest movies ever. This psuedo-documentary spoofs amateur theater productions, Middle American values, and small town booster-ism. The result is hilarious. Also, I cannot wait for the DVD to come out, I'm going to buy it the second the clock strikes August 21!

Summary: One of the Best Movies Ever
Review: Waiting for Guffman is one of the best movies ever. Christopher Guest is a genius. I think the acting in Guffman is about the best I have ever seen; every actor in the movie does an incredible job of portraying small town people who couldn't perform if their lives depended on it. We started laughing from the opening scene when the City Council is discussing where to position the snipers for security at the small town's sesquicentennial, and we never stopped laughing. We have now watched Waiting for Guffman 20 or 30 times, and we love it every time.

Review: I discovered this movie after running out of selections in Kroger's limited movie section... It's now my favorite movie of all time. Waiting for so long to get it on DVD made me want to go home and "just bite my pillow".

Review: It is a known fact in the movie industry: Christopher Guest owns the mockumentary genre. No one could ever come close to the hilarity and sophistication in his films. Waiting For Guffman proves this point, by taking a subject you would never expect to see on the silver screen and making it a brilliant farce on society. The cast is filled with all-star performers who we all see again in Best in Show. But the biggest scene-stealer of them all is Guest himself, as the over the top, low budget play director and creator of the new hit, Red, White and Blaine. Non- stop humour and charactar portrayals. An absolute classic cult film!

Review: Waiting for Guffman is quite possibly the funniest movie ever made. Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy are a comedic force of unparalleled genius. The first time one watches this film, the depth of each character and over-all brilliance cannot possible be appreciated. Only after repeated viewings can one come to realize just how clever this film really is. Corky St. Clair is as unforgettable a character as any in the history of film.I find it hard to compare this film to This is Spinal Tap because they have different directors and a much different feel. But it is certain that both stem from the same creative root. Nothing I can say about Waiting for Guffman can possibly do it justice. Just watch it. Then, watch it again and again and again and again and...

Summary: Guffman's it!
Review: I need Christopher Guest to make 2 movies a year for me. He makes me laugh more than any other actor/director. If you've done any theatre in your life, you will laugh your head off. Christopher Guest writes best in the documentary form, and his ability to tap into "special interest / people in their passion" slice of life is unsurpassed. Best in Show, This is Spinal Tap, The Big Picture (not a docu-drama)...these shows all show that Guest is best!

Summary: Absolute GENIUS
Review: This is truly the funniest movie I've ever seen, and it remains so even though I'm on my 12th time seeing it. BEST IN SHOW was cute, but not nearly as good as GUFFMAN. Katherine O'Hara and Parker Posey are at their best in this movie, as is Christopher GUest as Corkey St. Clair. Invite some friends over, make a pitcher of margaritas, and sit back and enjoy this movie.

Summary: Best Mockumentary Ever!
Review: If you have ever seen this type of film before, you haven't seen anything until you have seen Guffman. Christopher Guest plays the Broadway-driven, hysterical director of a musical written for the sesquicentennial of a small Missouri town called Blaine. The movie opens with an introduction from its residents about the history of Blaine and moves on to the start of the show, from casting to rehearsals to the real thing. Corky, the director, hopes to have his masterpiece on Broadway and invites scouts out to see the show. He gets a reply from Mr. Guffman, hence the title, Waiting for Guffman. Needless to say, the show is pretty ridiculous... This movie is one of the funniest movies I have ever had the pleasure of watching. If you have never done any theater before, you may not appreciate the idiocy of the play; nonetheless, the movie's humor does not revolve completely around the show. It is merely a short part of the entire movie. Most of the humor lies within the characters, their relationships, and their actions (many of which are ad-libbed). I have not yet seen Best in Show, but I read an interview with Christopher Guest that said that a double-DVD set of Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman is coming out. "Do you want me to strike it? I know all the theater terms..."

Summary: not as good as it's hyped up to be
Review: if you haven't seen this one, then i'd advise you to steer clear (especially if you're a spinal tap fan). christopher guest in with a valiant effort, but some poor writing, directing, and casting give this movie its demise. the impossible to stand parker posey takes up way too much screentime (as if she should take up any at all) and the jokes are very few and far. if you're going to go with anything, stick with spinal tap, where you know you'll be safe. side note: the 1 star rating is for an excellent moment with david cross near the beginning.
