Summary: A Hoot! A Romp of British Humor! :)
Review: I have 9 episodes on VHS of the wonderful Fawlty Towers and plan on buying the whole DVD set. If you love British Comedy or Monty Python, then you will ADORE Fawlty Towers! The cast meshes so well together! It's a shame there aren't more episodes! My favorite episode is "Basil, The Rat." Personally I would give it 10 stars or more on the hilarity scale! Buy and Enjoy!

Summary: One of the top TV Comedies of All Time
Review: This is up there with the classic TV comedies like "Your show of Shows" and "Monty Python". I love it, you will too. Buy it already.

Summary: Untitled
Review: Although this is not crazy like "Monty Python's: Fying Circus" where they pretend they are acting, and you see cameramen, and interacting with them, or the cartoons, etc..it still is very funny.
Doing more normal shows, if you can call it normal, features John Cleese as the head of the hotel. If you know him, you will know what to expect. He is screming let and right, and doing the usual bizaare things he would do it the "Flying Circus"
I'm sure you'll enjoy!

Summary: Best British Comedy
Review: Thank God they have finally released this on DVD. This is without a doubt the funniest British Sitcom ever. Every episode is funny. Worth a buy.

Summary: Just when you think you know all by heart, surprise.
Review: It just won't do to buy this series piece mill. You have seen them all a million times or you would not be reading this. And this is John Cleese at his best. Yes he has made some unforgettable movies; but it is also the crew of Faulty Towers you watch this for. Everyone has a favorite and mine is Basil the Rat. I would go into detail yet just incase you missed one I'd rather it be a surprise.
A series worth watching over and again.

Review: I'm a stickler when it comes to comedy-especially tv comedy. When I saw this series back in the 70's I laughed very hard. Now that it's on DVD complete with all 12 episodes, I put the discs in, kicked back and laughed even harder. It didn't help that I had a slight cold-I could barely breathe and my ribs started hurting after watching the first disc. I then proceeded to watch the other two discs. I was in bad shape by the time I was finished but I didn't care. These old episodes are hilarious. This is the way tv comedy should be!!

Summary: You can watch these over and over -- and still laugh!
Review: This DVD set should be issued to every man, woman and child in America. Maybe it would help our country loosen up a little and have fun again. I know I can't watch this classic British TV show and keep a scowl on my face for long.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time describing what Fawlty Towers is all about. Others have already done that. I just want to add my two cents worth regarding my enjoyment of them.

There aren't many shows I can watch repeatedly that still manage to make me laugh. Fawlty Towers is one of them. (In case you're interested, The Andy Griffith Show is another. I can watch that show literally daily and still laugh out loud. I never seem to tire of it.) John Cleese is a brilliant comedian with impeccable timing and hilarious facial expressions.

The entire show takes place inside Fawlty Towers, a fictitious hotel somewhere in England. Cleese is Basil Fawlty, the proprieter...a man whose distaste for his guests is barely disguised...and whose wife (Sybil, played by Prunella Scales) could win an award for nagging any day of the year.

The humor, although resorting at times to blatant slapstick, can at times be as keen and witty as any you'll find anywhere. It's a pity so few of these shows were made. The DVD set collects all 12 episodes (six from 1975 and six from 1979) and offers them up in pristine digital quality, with commentary by John Cleese, et al.

Fawlty Towers was a very funny show and I heartily recommend this DVD collector's set -- especially if you're already a fan of John Cleese's Monty Python humor. He's amazing as Basil Fawlty.

Summary: Funniest show I've ever seen!
Review: I bought the VHS tapes about 15 years ago, but they're wearing out, so we ordered the DVDs. This is absolutely the funniest show I've ever seen. My favorite episode? The Germans. Or maybe Basil the Rat. Or The Psychiatrist. Or,... If you're a Britcom fan, or just a John Cleese fan, then you'll love these. Buy the whole set! It's too bad they made only 12 episodes.

Summary: Basil the Art
Review: This is a marvelous 3-DVD set for Torquayphiles. Interviews and commentary from most of the major players and the episodes themselves look better than ever, great fun! This is one of the best comedies of all time, so it would have merited 5 stars as a 20 year old, poor resolution black and white videotape. As a DVD it is phenomenal.

Summary: A great DVD set for one of the greatest sitcoms ever!
Review: I've watched the entire run of Fawlty Towers dozens of times and I laugh harder each time.
Picture and sound quality are great, considering the age of the material. I'm no expert on video, but I think some folks are being a little picky. These programs were produced over 20 years ago for TV. The exteriors were done on 16mm film and the interiors were done on video tape. This was not a theatrical release. It looks to me like some work has been done on the shows, as they look and sound better than any PBS broadcast that I've seen.
The extras are great, with the exception of the first 6 commentaries by John Howard Davies. It sounds as if Davies hasn't viewed these for years and remembered very little. As a result, most of these commentaries consist of a lot of heavy breathing, sniffing, and slurping. He makes a comment about every 5 or 10 minutes on average. Still, Davies' noises can be amusing, especially at 3 in the morning! The last 6 commentaries by Bob Spiers are much better. Spiers does far more talking and actually seems to have some memory of the shows he directed. It would have been nice if the BBC had offered John Cleese a big pile of money to do commentaries for these shows. Eric Idle was once quoted as saying that Cleese would do anything for money - He once offered him a pound to shut up & Cleese took it! Cleese probably would have done a commentary...for a price.
The interviews on the discs are great. Each disc contains a different interview with John Cleese, which are about 20 minutes each. Disc 2 has an interview with Andrew Sachs who was Manuel. The interview is nearly a half hour and Sachs is very witty and entertaining. Disc 3's interview with Prunella Scales (Sybil Fawlty) is good, but very short.
There are also a couple of great documentaries: One about the Gleneagles Hotel & Donald Sinclair who Fawlty Towers & Basil Fawlty are based, as well as a brief featurette about the building that acted as the exterior for Fawlty Towers and the fire that destroyed the building in the 1990's. There are also about 5 minutes or so of mildly amusing outtakes.
So, sit back have a Kipper or a Waldorf Salad and enjoy some great comedy. Just don't mention the war!
