Summary: Skilfully treads the tightrope between highbrow and kid¿s fu
Review: An unlikely but inspired choice for an animated feature. While the animation and direction do not in themselves break new ground, this film is best viewed as an Old Testament epic which just happens to be a cartoon. It makes happily few concessions to the under-twelve crowd (e.g. the chariot race) and remains faithful - literally - to the source. As you'd hope in a high budget animated feature, the voice casting is good.For me, the best moment is the very final scene - which puts on screen quotes from the Old Testament, New Testament, and the Koran, driving home the message that this is a story for all faiths.

Summary: Dreamworks Creates an Animated Classic
Review: This is a beautiful movie and a great DVD. The animation is some of the best ever done. Notice, in particular, the life-like Nile River and Red Sea at the beginning and end of the picture. The chariot race that opens the movie is thrilling and the parting of the Red Sea is breath taking. Frankly, I hesitated to see this because I believed that it would just be "The Ten Commandments" re-visited. However, the creators decided to focus on how the God's edict to "Let my people go" would effect the relationship of the two brothers--Rameses and Moses. This point of view permits the audience to have a strong attachment to both characters and the things that happen to them. Another surprise is that the creators did not tone down or "Hollywoodize" the religious aspects of the story. They realized that the great power of this story is its spiritual element. The DVD "extras" make it well worth the price. In particular, I found the comparison drawings showing the creation of the chariot race to be particularly compelling. The music and songs perfectly compliment the action and are never distracting. Clearly, Disney is not the only studio that can create a great animated film.

Summary: And I don't really Care for Animated Films
Review: Now most people who know me, know I don't always Enjoy Animated films... in fact it's so RARE, this was the First animated film I actully bought. And boy could I have ever cried that I did not see this film in theaters. It is Simply Beautiful! I think it is eye and ear candy.... But that sounds a little of putting it down... this film is just Great... Now it ain't better then The Ten Comandments. but it does a Decent job, and JUST SIMPY should not be compaired with The Ten Comandments! THis one stand's it's ground and The Ten Comandment's Stand's there's. and most people got to think, Most of this low cawl is because its more for the children, and public to watch, not for us people who believe in religion or anything. It trys to stay away from the religion war. So its all done just great. I am 18, and I will say I LOVE THIS FILM! I watch it over and over.. And it is Now Totally My NUMBER ONE BEST ANIMATED FILM of all time's! But of course I don't recomend it for everybody.. but It's well worth seeing at least once.

Summary: Disney's New Rival
Review: Prince of Egypt is an extraordinary piece of work, also considering that the film is non-Disney. The characters and story is touching. Childrens' interest is kept during this film--they actually want to watch a biblical and historical film. (That's certainly a bonus for my family!) There is an entire roller coaster of humor, tears, and inspiration.

Review: Prince of Egypt is an animation classic. Not only does it take animation to an entirely new level, it compounds its greatness with an unforgettable music score. This movie begs to be played on a system with a high quality sound system. This is a fine and engrossing retelling of the Moses story.

Summary: Worthy Biblical Achievment
Review: Dreamworks pictures first fully animated epic rivals many of the best that Disney can offer. Many dues owing to Katzenberg who put Disney back on the map in the early nineties with "The Little Mermaid". Sumptuously told and written with jaw dropping animation scenes at regular intervals. The Biblical story of how Moses freed the Israelites from the Pharoah's clutches is crisply told remaining faithful to what is a keystone in the faith of many Christians. The original songs and score heighten the films appeal making this an animation treasure to view over and over again.

Summary: Surprisingly entertaining... for a non-Disney film
Review: Based on the Exodus story found in the Bible, it tells the story of Moses, and how he lead the Hebrews out of Egypt after over 400 years of slavery. Great story, excellent animation, good soundtrack, and recognizable voices from various famous celebrities can be found in this excellent film. I think some scenes were drawn using a computer, because no way can that type of animation be done using pen and paper. When I saw this movie, I thought it would be just like any other non-Disney film, but I was wrong! This is a VERY highly recommended film... No wonder it's price is so high!

Summary: Graphics biblical in their proportions
Review: I could criticize the patheticness of the story line, or I could criticize their tendency to break out into gratuitous singing, but I'd rather criticize the animation. Now, the human body, even the animated human body, should only curve so much. There are just some places that shouldn't bend. The animators seem to have forgotten that in several sections of the story. They paid a lot of attention to detail, but ignored the detail dictated by common sense. Also, the faces are often so anatomically incorrect it boarders on absurdity. Another criticism is the mannerisms. Would Ramses really have become so informal in front of the whole court simply because his old friend Moses showed up? No, he would have had Moses brought into a private chamber, so as to not act like an idiot before his own people. One should not mix twentieth century body language with a 2000 B.C. pharoh. It just doesn't work. And those "High Priests" would have been executed long ago. BUT, all that can be overlooked as soon as the backgrounds are shown. The city-scapes, the mountains, and especially the Red Sea, make this rather melodramatic epic worth watching (even though that scene where "god" flies through the city looks just a bit too much like that scene at the end of "Raiders of the Lost Ark"). I would recommend this film to people who like art, for the artwork is truly breathtaking at times, but For extremely young children, a few of the scenes where locusts swarm and the plague attacks the people might not be the best thing to show them.

Summary: Another Flop From Notorious Dreamworks Pictures!
Review: Honestly, the way I see it is that "The Haunting" was the only commendable production from Dreamworks Pictures. This feature animation, on the other hand, puts Steven Spielberg to a great deal of shame, I'm afraid; and it all the more proves how Jeffery Katzenberg can hardly survive without the expertise of the Walt Disney Company. First of all, it is terribly non-accurate in terms of restoring a "tale" of how Moses delivered his people. And secondly, eew...imagine how the people looked! Many praised this movie for its stunning background design; I personally feel horrible-looking CGI-animated people pale in accompaniment to how "stunning" the audience opines the animation to be - either in a positive or negative way. Why, I think even Don Bluth's "Anastasia" could do many times better! The soundtrack itself isn't all the more that fantastic, despite the several rather meaningful songs like "River Lullaby", "Through Heaven's Eyes" and "When You Believe", due to that familiar sensation from listening to scores of similar tones. I suppose this is the only portion of "The Prince of Egypt" which persuades me to only hang on to it with an unimpressive 2-star rating. Better luck next time, Dreamworks - looking forward to your much anticipated "The Iron Giant"!
