Summary: A MUST HAVE!!
Review: Abby is not quite 18 months, but she loves Bear. We bought this video because we are coming up on potty time. We should have bought two. She doesn't like to sit and wait for it to rewind to watch it again. I am not an advocate of tv sitters, she doesn't watch any other tv than Bear and Blues Clues...but she has to see this video at least once a day...she mimics bear and sits on her potty chair like a big girl...but she has yet to make a "boof" as she calls it. I think he has gotten her this far, in knowing that this is what the potty is for and to not be afraid of it. I love Bear, he is a completely safe show to let any kid watch and I love to laugh at Tutter. Parents can also enjoy the "shadow story", they are cheesy and funny! So all around, get this video!

Summary: I was amazed
Review: We tried reading books to my 3 year old boy, demonstrating how one would go about it etc. Nothing worked. He insisted on standing in a corner in his pull-ups. We were getting a little worried since he was to start pre-school in the Fall.

When I read the reviews for this product, I was a little skeptical, but had nothing to lose. When I brought it home, my son watched it once and then twice again the next morning. Immedietly afterwards, without any prompting from us, he took off his pull-ups, sat on the potty and did his business. He did it again two days later. I'm amazed that the video worked this fast! I highly recommend Bear in the big blue house - Potty Time with Bear!!

Summary: Good for reinforcing ideas, NOT for training
Review: This tape does not train your children to use the potty, but it does reinforce the concepts behind it. i.e.- accidents happen, but it's ok; go when you have to go; and potty training is fun and big girl big boy stuff. Everybody does it. Nice to have for reinforcements, but definatley NOT for training itself. I checked it out from the local library and will probably buy it.

Summary: Only took 2 days
Review: We bought this video to get our 2 year old familiar with the idea of going to the potty. She is 2 years and 1 month old. After viewing the video, she wanted to go potty immediately. She is potty training with few accidents after having the video only 2 days! She is out of diapers and into underwear now. She loves anything Disney and loves Bear. He makes everything sound fun. I highly recommend this video-- just be ready for the sudden switch to making potty stops at stores and restaurants.

Summary: Gets my toddler on the potty!
Review: This is the first Bear video I've ever bought or seen. I am impressed with it, and my twin 2 year olds love it. I am only trying to potty train my daughter right now, but my son asks to watch it too. This video has helped to get my girl interested in the potty. The shadow segment kind of freaked them both out at first, but after about 4 viewings, they started to like it. We have watched this viedo A LOT, and I haven't gotten completely sick of it like I did with Elmo and Barney. I'd definately recommend this video to anyone starting to potty train.

Summary: Its Nice But not for Potty training
Review: This is a entertaining video, my boys love the singing but that's just about it. Bears dont use the toilet, they dont have on diapers or have to pull down there pants. It may get your children to start thinking about using the potty chair.

Summary: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR POTTY TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I bought this dvd for my 24month old son. I've been potty training him since he was 18m with great success but he had a backslide, having accidents about 4x a week. Now, he grabs himself and says POTTY and runs to the bathroom. Before he was using a potty chair, now he only uses the toilet (I think because he saw Tutter using the toilet). Aside from the potty training he loves the singing and he loves all of the animals on the show. I also recommend Bear in the Big Blue House: Colors and Shapes. These dvd's are so cute my little one watches them every day!

Summary: Why so popular?
Review: If it weren't for the popularity of Bear in the Big Blue House, this would be rated as just an average potty video. My almost-3-year-old likes Bear and friends, but I find the video lacking in toilet training information. There is one lesson where a mouse doesn't want to stop playing to go to the bathroom, and I think this is a legitimate issue. The only other lesson involves the smaller bear having an "accident", and being told that it's OK--it happens to everyone. What could have been a third lesson turned into just a song, with no character addressing any potty issue--they all just sang in the bathroom!
The three songs included have lyrics that are advanced for young children, using words like "debonair" and others I can't recall at the moment. The song sung by the character Shadow was very artsy, and completely inappropriate for young children. I still can't believe it was included in the video!
One good thing about this video is that it shows both types of potty seats--those that sit atop a full-size toilet, and the small bowl type that sits alone on the floor. None of the other video reviews mention what type of potty is pictured, and I think it's very important for a child to see his own type. Overall, I think this video lacks educational content and is just OK, mainly because of the well known characters.

Summary: Weasels frightened my 2 1/2 year old!
Review: Just thought I should let people know that the weasel song frightened my child so much that he refuses to watch the video.

I, myself, thought the video was cute. My son seemed to really like it at first and has rarely had any fears. He loves the Bear and the moon at the end (which seems freakier to me than the weasels!). The only other thing that ever frightened him was an episode of Sesame Street with a big bad wolf.

When we were watching it for the 4th or 5th time, I noticed a look come over him and he asked me to turn it off. I finally determined the weasel part was frightening him. It gets all dark during this song and they sing about the "cult of the potty" with a Near Eastern tune.

He hasn't watched it since and I have put the box away. He now has very little interest in using the potty (he seemed interested before). I realize this reluctance may have nothing to do with the video scaring him. However, I wish I hadn't bought it.

Summary: Bear is the BEST
Review: This show is definitely one of the best shows we've found for kids. The characters are gentle and real, and help kids learn some of those important basic lessons. The only thing we don't like is the "Shadow" segments, which my whole family finds quite twisted and creepy, so we just fast forward. After watching MANY other kids shows, we came to the conclusion that most of them will help you raise a mentally DEFICIENT child, like Barney, or the Teletubbies, which offer negligible amounts of actual substance. Entertain your kids, yes, but don't retard their growth in the process. Give them something entertaining that will engage them and help them to learn from. Bear In The Big Blue House is one of the only shows we let our daughter watch. She had a vocabulary of over 50 clearly understandable words (including Bear, Ojo, and Tutter) at 14 months old, and is now assembling simple sentences at 16 months (like "the dog is barking"). She also sings songs on key as well! WOW! Thanks to the BitBBH potty training show, she is also working on POTTY TRAINING! I'm not saying Bear is THE reason, but he helped along the way. Thanks Bear!
