Summary: Samurai X is the bloodiest Anime!!!!(By Joey)
Review: Nice: (+ 2 stars)
1- Amazing Japanese voice acting
2- Nice animation in the first episode of the first ova
3- Its nice to see how kenshin got the scar

Didnt like: (- 3 stars)
1- Excessive and unnecessary violence
2- Bland animation after the fist episode of the first ova
3- Boring and short fights (only the final fight in the first episode of the first ova is good)
4- Too much drama, and one dimension characters
5- Predecible story line
6- Repetitive music score
7- Chessy real life scenes mixed with the animation (the beach water for example)

Trust me, dont waste your money in this ova, save your money for anything else ;)

Summary: GREAT ANIME MUST SEE
Review: ok this movie was probably one of the BEST anime movies i have ever seen. I loved seeing how Kenshin got his way into being batosai the man-slayer. If you like buying anime movies like this i say go ahead and buy it, its worth the price. but if you are a person that likes a movie once and would never go and watch it again, try to rent it. i give this a 5/5. it is definatly for more mature people because theres a lot of blood and killing. i recommend 13+ for ages.

Summary: You havn't seen anime till you've watched this
Review: One of the very best. The animation style is unique, the music moody, the plot unfolds beautifully, the atmosphere is overwhelmingly tragic. I just wished that they didn't mangle the name. Samurai X. *pukes* Please. Kenshin was neither a samurai, nor does he invoke the feel of complete alienation as the X implies.

Summary: More Serious than the Series
Review: Rurouni Kenshin, the TV series, is a somewhat light-hearted tale about an ex-assassin resigned to never kill again. I was honestly not a huge fan of the series, but i would rate this OVA as one of the great pieces of animation ever. It takes place during the Meiji revolution- the time when Kenshin was an assassin-a killer. Samurai X is significantly more somber than the television series. The animation is more detailed and realistic; the musical score is more refined; the story is more contemplative. This is a deep OVA that will leave you feeling for the characters. It mixes an outstanding plot with cool writing and poetic voilence. There is really no clear cut line of right and wrong, everyone has his/her own motivations. Resolve, regret, courage, love, doubt, determination, sacrafice, honor, purpose, anguish... this is a great story filled will all these, and more.

Summary: Sadly, audio mastering spoils this wonderful anime
Review: Samurai X (or Rurouni Kenshin) OVAs are among the best anime ever produced. The story, the art, the characters, everything just blew my mind away when I saw them for the first time, and still does. But, alas, something went awry, probably in the mastering phase of this release:

For some unknown reason there are very annoying problems in the audio, which heavily affect the watching experience. Every now and then, when there is music, speech and sound effects playing simultaneously, music drops about 10-20 db, and the sound effects control the whole soundscape. Then, after a few seconds, the music strengthens again as suddenly as it weakened.

Especially in this kind of story, where music plays a really big part in the atmosphere, these kinds of problems can't be forgiven. For me, it destroed the whole watching experience, which means that I'm forced to watch old digitized vhs-versions.

Shame on the guys who mastered this.

Summary: kenshin ova box set
Review: This kenshin, the one from the ova, is depressingly real. unlike the tv series, which was cheerful and exciting, the ova is dark, dreary, and full of emotion and meaning. It gives you a different impression of kenshin and it makes the tv series mean so much more. the action is much more bloody and viscious as well. probably something parents don't want to buy their little kenshin fans. but all in all, it's an incrediable ova that adds a lot of meaning to the kenshin series and makes kenshin much more real.

Summary: A serious perspective for Rurouni Kenshin fans.
Review: This OVA set focuses on the serious and melancholic side to the Rurouni Kenshin universe. It's a wonderful compliment to the more light-hearted TV series. After seeing the TV series, I highly recommend watching this OVA.

The TV series masterfully balances humor and drama while leaving the fans with a feeling of happiness. The OVA on the other hand, focuses on the internal struggle of Kenshin Himura as he learns the way of the Hiten Mitsurugi style and becomes the feared Hitokiri Battousai. It certainly shows the viciousness of Kenshin in the graphic violence in the anime. It definitely has a mature theme. The action sequences were much more fierce and unforgiving as the acts of the manslayer were depicted. I was shocked at some of the gruesome deaths of the people.

There was also a constant atmosphere of sadness throughout the anime. The music was beautiful with a very sad overtone. I was surprised at how moving the story was as the history of his distinctive cross-shaped scar was revealed. His heart could not cope with the trials and tribulations as he continually tried to attone for his past actions.

This OVA is a masterpiece and I highly recommend it. However, I must admit that I was left with a very somber feeling after finishing it. I was very touched with the characters and storytelling, especially with the flashbacks. Even if you have not seen the TV series, I highly recommend this boxed set. However, I would not recommend this for younger kids as the nature of the violence and melancholic tone may not hold their attention.

Summary: Samurai X OVA
Review: unlike the cartoony style done in the tv series, Samurai X offers a serious look in the character of Kenshin Himurs, and shows great character development from his time as a Hitokiri to his enlightment and the endo of the story. You will never get board with this intense story and will watch it hundered times over.
