Summary: Final Fantasy--Joining the Canon...
Review: Hmmm. Where to start? How about "really enjoyed the magnificent effort of an incredibly ambitious and talented group of animators, with only minor dissapointments in their attempt to play too safe, too mainstream, watering down the lofty sights set with the technical/artistic approach to the film visuals with proven formulae and action sterotypes." There. That was simple. But what this film really got from 'Joe Public' seems to have been not mixed criticism/appreciation, but the cold shoulder. I think that's sad...it's a much better film than the pointless and underwhelming Planet of the Apes and the most ambitious title you're likely to see this summer. Why? Perhaps its due to it challenging the status quo of the Hollywood entrenched blockbuster...it had dark spiritual themes, didn't employ key L.A. toutables and was produced independently, not exactly Jerry Bruckheimer Presents. I firmly believe that FF will be a sleeper acheivement in filmmaking, changing the scope and look of films to come, much like similarly lambasted titles as "Tron," "Blade Runner," and David Lynch's "Dune." Many hated those films for being cold, alien and hard to decipher. Now, the levels and looks of those works make them landmarks and touchstones to new generations of artisans and movielovers alike. Welcome, Square Pictures...you took it on the chin but be proud of your big imperfect masterpiece. You had guts to do it and the hard work shows.

Summary: A AAA writer could have helped.
Review: Final fantasy seemed to have the making of a breakthrough for computer animated movie making. It had the best minds in the business on the boards, A passable storyline, and a prepackaged audience of gamers. The problems started in the writing of the dialog which was cliche and banal. Nothing beyond a few emotions was displayed, no complexity. It would have been diificult anyway because although the animation has improved by bounds, it still can't capture the simplest expression such as anger. Hopefully the next attempt will come with still more powerful computers behind it and maybe, just maybe they will hire a real screenwriter.

Summary: Can you please stop the noise ???
Review: Come on guys, can you please stop talking endlessly about a non-sense topic ?! Go and watch this movie for what it is: an absolutely stunning technical revolution! I'm not gonna repeat what everyboy said. Of course, don't get there to see THE sci-fi movie of the decade. Accept this fact: as long as Hollywood (shall I say USA) rules the movie industry, we'll never ever ever get what we, sci-fi fans, are all waiting for: a pure and perfect combination of Blade Runner, Matrix, Alien, the Lord of the Rings, Dune and Star Wars... well, as a matter of fact, they all sound like american movies... but you know what I mean, don't you ?!

So again: go for it! This movie is worth every each cent you'll spend, as long as you don't expect the inexpectable !!! And also, stop comparing the movie with the video game! The episodes of the serie have almost never been related to each other, so... (I used to play FF on Gameboy... A loooooong time ago :)

Summary: Final WHAT????
Review: This movie gets 4 stars only because it is a summer movie, and because of the dazzling computer-animation. I never thought I would ever see human characters so realistic. In fact, I know people who have lost bets with their friends because they thought this movie had real actors!

Sadly, I am disappointed with the major sci-fi elements in this movie. The plot feels more related to "Jet Force Gemini". This fantasy isn't the type with dragons and swords, but more like the type with aliens and futuristic weapons. It's not that I don't LIKE those kinds of movies, but it's just that it doesn't include anything from the games that I love. There are no Chocobos, no Cactuars, and no Mogs.

And the plot--ugh! I have always loved Final Fantasy games for their fantastic plotlines (save Final Fantasy VIII, of course), which are not only intelligent and surreal, but pretty scary, too. This movie's plot is just ordinary space opera! I could write the plot in the middle of a boring English class!

The characters also aren't very well developed. In Final Fantasy VII, for example, I love Cloud, Aeris, Tifa, Red XIII, Barrett, Vincent, and Cid, and I love to hate Yuffie, Hojo, and Sephiroth. All the characters have outstanding personalities in that game. But in the movie, you don't find yourself loving the personalities of any of the characters, because they are so undeveloped.

But this is a summer movie. Its job wasn't to make a great plot or define human personalities well. Its job was to create spectacular environments and staggeringly realistic human figures--and that's just what it did. Because it's a summer movie, and because it does a good job of pleasing its target audience (bored preteens), I give this film a generous 4 out of 5 stars.

Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, but it could've been PG if it had less. Don't worry, there is no blood or gore.

Summary: The Best Video Game Movie, EVER!
Review: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is something we have all been waiting for, a good video game movie. After disapointments like Double Dragon, Street Fighter, and Wing Commander; we earned this. This film is based on the long running video game series that started on the NES, then Super NES, PSX, and PS2. This film may impress the unitiated with it's simple plot and great animation, but hardcore and regular gamers will not think of it really as a Final Fantasy movie. It mainly has the same name and theme of the games. The animation is great and the voice actors have done a great job.

Final Score: 81\2

Summary: My thoughts
Review: First i must say that iam humored by all the controversial reactions on this movie. This is definitely a title in which depends more on what person you are rather what the movie is.

This movie has its weaknesses, but the story(for me at last) more then makes up for it.Someone will love the computer graphic, someone action or whatever - thats the way it goes,we cant be all same.Iam more for a story then anything else,as i think its the point of final fantasy - game or movie.I didnt find the story simple as some people said - well it was very deep story in my eyes, its just that film critics are mostly "groundfoot" persons, which lost their fantasy long long ago.For people who can really feel like being in movie, this is going to be great.Granted that for most people it is crazy confusing, but thats the point - it WASNT supposed to be clear, hence the word FANTASY.I cheer the idea of having very mature movie combined with having to use your fantasy.Anyway,i enjoyed the story, maybe because i understand it fully(or the idea behind the scene). The "gaia" idea is,in fact, just what like 50% people on earth belive in.Call it a gaia(which is something like "nature"),god, cosmic order - heck it doesnt matter. The weaknesses are clear - not enough time to pull all the ideas in,hence everything happening too fast - that was disturbive.Space marines maybe too cliche.

By the way,for people who felt kind of "empty" in end - can assure you that this is one of main weapons of final fantasy.I played 7 and 8,and it leaves even stronger feeling of "sorrow".Personally,i love the idea of cutting the story like this. All what should be shown was.All the characters were nicely done - even the main "bad guy" was,if you notice, just a person suffering from losing a family that much that it drives him crazy.Very nice, and great contrast to all the american action movies.the "aliens" werent in fact invading earth, another good point. As you can see,iam more on the philosophy on side of the things, and not ashamed of it.for me substance is more important then form. Most of the younger people will like great computer graphic and drama of the story. Made me feel great, and definitely best movie i saw for a long time.Great refreshment from what hollywood spits at us all the day long.

Summary: Commercialism at work behind the stunning graphics
Review: The hard work put into creating the amazing graphics of the movie is the only thing that makes me give it a 4-star rating. Behind the so much talked about graphics lies a movie that is designed to earn as much money as possible, rather than entertain the viewer. The impression throughout the movie is that this movie was made according to what the marketing director thought it should be like, rather than according to the director, whose creativity and better judgement of what would benefit the viewer more were suppressed by decisions that would make the studio benefit more. Even though this is meant to be an adult movie, there is NO abusive language WHATSOEVER, and the occasions when the actors refrain themselves from swearing look very fake. This is obviously a result of the studio fearing that adults would not go see the movie because it's a "cartoon" and making sure that they can make up the money lost by making the movie accessible to young viewers. Making the movie fully in computer graphics gave the makers the opportunity to use ground-breaking Matrix-style camera effects with great ease. However there are almost no shots in the movie which would prove very difficult to shoot in real life. This is obviously a result of the studio thinking that the movie might fail to sell if there would be too many new things for the viewer to accept and telling the director to keep computer graphics as the only innovation in film making.

The plot of the movie is quite original and well-though-out, but the movie fails to explain it well to the audience and develop it deep enough, another result of the studio keeping the innovations to a minimum. This makes it very confusing for the viewer and does not explain the ending well, making it difficult to understand. Unlike other good movies that leave questions in the minds of the leaving audience (Matrix, Fight Club, Amer. Psycho...), the questions that Final Fantasy leaves behind are those that cannot be answered by watching the movie again, as they cannot be logically deduced, and instead need to be simply anwered, and thus leave a very negative impression for the viewer. It is an exmple of a bad presentation of a good story, similar to a teacher's bad explanation of an interesting subject, even though it does keep the audience's attention.

The graphics, obviously magnificent and a result of great effort, look extremely real, except for the human characters, as technology has yet to reach the level of a truly realistic computer generated human, but still are the best today's technology can offer. Such realistic graphics add a very interesting feeling when leaving the movie. The viewer's mind, used to telling itself that the real-looking thigs on the screen aren't real during the movie, contunues to do it for a while after the movie ends, giving the person the impression that he is walking home from the cinema in an unreal world.

This movie is good to watch to see a preview of what movies of the future will look like, but seeing how it fails to exploit the full potential of CG filmmaking, one can expect MUCH better CG movies in terms of plot and direction.

Summary: I Want To Give The Staffs Related To F.F. A Clap!
Review: At first, I can't understand this "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" failed in box office of the U.S. and has been mauled by most movie critics of Korea and the U.S.. Frankly speaking, I didn't expect it when I went to theater to see it. Because I've thought the computer graphic(CG) movie isn't enough to produce to a great impression on the audience as a real movie does. However, it wasn't different from the previous ones.

First, the story is organized well. The basic material, "Gaia Theory", which sees the Earth as an active self-regulating system, might be a little difficult to general audiences. But it designates the hard theory friendly and clearly. Basically, the love and protection of environment including the Earth must be the central thinking of it like a Japanese Anime, "Kazeno Tanino Naushika( Naushika in Windy Valley )".

Second, the skill of CG is pretty great. Of course, the delicate expression like a real human isn't still satisfactory. I agree that, but I believe the skill will be much better than now serving "Final Fantasy" as a stepping-stone for future success.

Finally, I'd like to say, "Good job, every staffs related to Final Fantasy".

Summary: Truly Fabulous
Review: I will admit that I went to see this movie strictly because the trailers for it were nothing short of spectacular. And truly, I was thrilled by this movie.

The most visible thing about Final Fantasy is, of course, the animation. Quite honestly, what I saw on the screen was nothing short of stunning. I never expected to see any computer generated human figure look, move, and, I'll say it, act that real. There were moments that I actually forgot I was watching a computer generated cartoon. Just for that, this movie is worth seeing.

But wait, there's more. Anyone who's a fan of anime will definitely enjoy this story. It manages to tell a broad-scale story while still maintaining the human aspect that so many movies lose when trying to tell such stories. When everything is said and done, when you go to see Final Fantasy, you will be going to see not a special effects driven film, or the cutting edge of computer animation, but a truly magnificent movie, a movie that so many others try strive to be, but often fall short of becoming.

Summary: My Thoughts On This Movie
Review: I went to see Final Fantasy: The Spirts Within a few days right after it hit the theatres. It was worth every penny I spent at the movies for this motion picture.

Final Fantasy has marked it self in video game history. The games have beem breath taking. The soundtracks to the games have been the best music I have ever heard. Finally a movie has been made to match the quality of the Final Fantasy games.

I feel "F.F.(Final Fantasy): The Spirits Within" is honestly the best movie I have ever seen. It has everything I have ever wanted in a movie. This movie has something to offer for the whole family. It has action and romance. Every aspect of this movie has pure quality to it.

The music to the movie is some what mystical and attractive. You feel your spirt being moved by the music. Music is a very important key to a good movie. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is a good movie with awesome music.

The computer generated graphics are just the best I have ever seen almsot. You can tell that it took a lot of effort and time to create this masterpiece.

FINAL FANTASY THE SPIRTS WITHIN IS THE BEST MOVIE!
