Summary: Best. Movie. Ever.!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111one
Review: This is the greatest movie in the history of everything. I could die happy if I was summarily executed with a dessert eagle at point blank if I had watched this movie immediately beforehand. Lieutenant Falcon is perhaps the biggest pimp in the world.Just watching him makes my pimp hand grow stronger. Men these days are not badasses anymore like they used to be. No one has names like "Sgt. Slaughter," "Falcon" or "Duke." Back when men were men and women were women and communists knew their place, these people dominated. This movie was BY FAR the best thing to come out of the 80's. If you don't like this movie you don't deserve to be called an American. Pinko. I only hope to god that the next time Cobrala comes up with another devious plot to conquer the world that men will still have 1% the courage that the G.I. Joes had. Otherwise may God have mercy on our souls. This is for me. This is for Duke. And this is for the U.S. of A!!!!!!!!!11one

Summary: Some things are better left as memories.
Review: I bought this for my husband since he loved G.I. Joe as a kid, and he had fond memories of this movie, with "had" being the operative word.

There's no need to elaborate, really. This movie is just awful. Terrible. I could point out each flaw of the movie, but it doesn't merit even that much critical thought.

I will say this: it IS hysterical. After about five minutes, you'll realize this film will either kill you or make you stronger, and if you choose to laugh and point the entire time instead of cursing yourself for money wasted, you can genuinely have a good time.

Have you ever slapped your knee in a fit of laughter? Me neither, but I DID slap the arm of my chair a few times due to a particularly hilarious moment, courtesy of Lt. Falcon (voiced by Don Johnson, I might add) being introduced to some kind of survivalist, misfit Joe's. Or whatever. One of the Joe's, just because he's cool like that, spits on a hapless scorpion unfortunate enough to stumble upon this motley bunch. The scorpion, rather than scurrying away (or mindlessly waving its pincers and tail as they're wont to do) flails its claws and emits a highly-audible, "SCREEEEE!!"

"SCREEEEE?"

I've killed many a scorpion, and I never got a "SCREEEEE." "Crunch," sure. "SCREEEE!!," no.

I am working on my spitting skills in my spare time to rectify this problem, I assure you.

Oh yeah, the movie...really bad. Save your money and rent it if you feel like a good laugh. My husband admitted it was terrible and regretted my spending the money on this DVD. But it's the thought that counts, and my abs got an intense workout from laughing like a loon at the sheer awfulness of this "film." Not a total loss, but pretty darn close.

Summary: G.I. Joe The Movie
Review: I think the movie was good. I did not like the way they turned Cobra Commander into a snake however. I wasn't fair to blame one person for all of Cobra's failures.

Summary: remember...
Review: people have to remember, this movie is for kids. now i agree that the movie has a bad plot and it could have been done much better, but when it came out i thought it was the best movie in the world. you have to take off your adult glasses and put on your kid glasses to enjoy this movie.

Summary: GI JOE the movie
Review: I am a huge GI JOE fan, but I have to agree with a lot of the other reviews when they said the cobra la thing was rediculous. To find out the cobra commander was some mutant from the past was just plain stupid. I did not care for any of the new characters that were introduced in the movie. The movie should have focused on the more popular classic characters like storm shadow, snake eyes, fire fly, ect.. Overall, I would have to reccoment the movie just because I am such a huge GI JOE fan. Also because the more GI JOE stuff we buy, the better chance we have of more classic JOE stuff being released. Support the team YO JOE!!!

Summary: HTE BEST PART OF THE MOVIE WAS THE OPENING SEQUENCE
Review: it's true, i was in awe when i saw the spectacular openenr with a new version of gi joe's theme "he never gives up, he'll never say die.." spencer michlen and ford kindler (songwriters) deserves high praise as well as the japanese animators of the movie, the opener rivaled alot of anime series. but the movie went downhill from here.. why you ask?/ well let's see....

1.) COBRA-LA / WTF the cobra i knew and loved/loathed was founded by cobra commander, not by some reptile civilization!!

2.)which brings me to ask whose idea was it to turn cobra commander from a reptile humanoid to a snake..in the comics C.C. was human!!

3.) BIG LOB (can we say "stereotype"?)

4.)Duke getting "killed" only to fall into a "coma"
"holy optimus prime batman"!

5.)SGT. SLAUGHTER i know joe was a far fetched cartoon, but how could any human without super powers take on a mutant (NEMISES ENFORCER) who is strong enough to hurl tanks??

6.)Serpentor didn't get his just desserts in the end, but cobra-la is destroyed.."whoo-hoo"!

7.) vintage g.i.joe commercials more like your daddy's g.i.joe and not the lil 3 inch figures we all know and adore, at least i still have the original comic commercials. ;0P

8.) Boring PSAs i rather see the cast/creators getting interview like some retrospective.

9.)the biggest heartbreak was after this disapointing movie the series wasn't picked up for a 3rd season (BATTLEFORCE 2000 wouldv'e been soo cool)

oh well can't win them all even if you stayed till the fight is won.

Summary: Great Beginning, Great Cast, Not-So-Great Execution
Review: G.I. Joe was one of the best cartoons of the 80's. Of course a marketing gimmick designed to sell toys, the cartoon still gave many children hours of entertainment and public service messages of questionable content (every one of the latter of which are included on the DVD).

Surely at some point both G.I. Joe and the other marketing mega-success of Transformers would make the transition to the big screen. Yet a lukewarm reception for Transformers the Movie (originally due to be the second of the two films) drove G.I. Joe to the direct-to-video channel.

Immediately at the beginning of the film, it's apparent that the movie isn't the television show, taking a larger and darker image fit for the big screen. No longer do parachutes deploy from every plane [coming] down, and people do seem to [be eliminated]. Duke had been written off in the script, but the death of Optimus Prime and its poor audience screening changed that to a coma inflicted by Serpentor's poisoned snake arrow a la Conan the Barbarian.

The first few minutes are by far the best of the film, and had the writers kept to that level for the entire picture, their efforts may very well have resulted in the greatest television adapation ever! Yet soon we meet a race of powerful mutants--Cobra-La (whose name was supposed to be changed for filming until the writers forgot!)--who had provided Cobra Commander the inspiration and decree to conquer the world--and given him the reason to wear his mask.

Cobra-La's goal is mutate the entire population of earth through spores; in the end, of course, G.I. Joe saves the day, although their efforts, trials, and tribulations take on the larger scope of a cinematic piece than the television show.

The film is voiced by talents from Don Johnson to Burgess Meredith to wrestling's Sgt. Slaughter, but in the end Cobra-La is too silly a concept to make for a truly satisfying film. G.I. Joe fans will still want to see the movie, and most kids will still enjoy it if they are familiar with any of the characters or toys. I just can't give it 5 stars for those faults.

Summary: Why'd they ever take G.I. Joe off the air?
Review: *sigh* Just as I remember it. To this day I still hear people my age say "Well now I know." "And knowing is half the battle....G.I.Joe!" One great thing about this DVD is it has all those old public service announcements included as an extra.

I was the only girl in my school that watched G.I. Joe when I was a kid, and all the boys were impressed that I knew the names of every single character back then! I was quite the fanatic.

I do agree with another reviewer here, that some of the veteran Joe's (of course Duke and Scarlet, and my personal favorites Snake Eyes, Snow Storm and his arch rivals Freedom and Spirit) could have used some more air time in the film, however, the movie was always my favorite because I liked the new characters (especially the asian female because that's what I am and not many of us asian girls on-screen back then) and would have loved to have seen the series continue, but it was not meant to be.

Ah well, at least I have this DVD!

Summary: Can't ask for much more
Review: Glad to see this movie is on DVD and in fullscreen!! The GI Joe Movie is pretty good and will be enjoyed by anyone who was a fan of the show as a kid. Very nostalgic. The disc includes many of the "knowing is half the battle" shorts, associated with the show. The movie was good and the DVD adds to that with good features and giving us what we all want.. the movie! I only hope they have "The Return of cobra commander" and "the making of sirpentor" out on DVD as well.
