Summary: A Soaring Success
Review: A very good film for the Entire family in which The Mystery of a witch is met by the kindness of a gentle girl. Kiki (voice by Kirsten Dunst:Bring It On)is a young witch who's family has had a tradition of when a witch turns thirteen, she must leave home for a year and if she wants stay there for the rest of her life to practice Witchcraft. She meets a rather snooty witch on the beginning of her journey who talks about having a "skill". Kiki becomes confused and upset and lands her broomstick into a train that seems to be stocked with hay. Waking up the next morning by the cows under the hay Kiki discovers a huge city floating in the ocean. Kiki grabs her broom and flies off to investigate and see if any other witches live there. Kiki is walking around town worried if she might have to spend the night outside but fortunately, she meets a baker named Osono who befriends her and invites Kiki to live with her. As I mentioned before Kiki didn't have a skill so she thought she could start a delivery service in the bakery and meets new people along the way with her friend Jiji by her side. Then... Kiki is one morning after playing with her friend Tombo (Matt Lawrence)sitting on her bed and Jiji comes in and meows. Kiki and Jiji usually talk, I mean literally, Jiji can talk, but he just meows like a regular cat and drinks some milk. Worried Kiki races for her broom and tries to fly it, but it's no use, she lost her witches powers. Later a friend who she made a delivery to earlier in the movie invites her to her house and bakes Kiki a special cake, but Kiki isn't paying the slightest attention to the cake, it turns out that a Derigibald had crashed and hanging on a rope from it was none other than... Tombo! Terrified Kiki runs over to the scene of the disaster and spots a janitor carrying a brush! Kiki in a mix of both bravery and stupidity hops on the brush and concentrates. For a few seconds she just stands there motionless in the street. then slowly hovers and in a split second bounces high into the sky and hits a building but gets control over the broom and races towards Tombo just in the nick of time to catch him and finally be a witch again. I highly suggest you buy this film, it will leave you always knowing that anything is possible, who knows, you might be brushing up outside and all of a sudden be zooming in the air like a bird.

Hey...

you never know...

it could happen...

Summary: Kiki's Delivery Service
Review: I just stumble on this movie and watched it in cantonese. I fell in love with it! The setting, the children's voices were so cute and it made the movie wonderous and unforgettable. I watched it over a few times and I still never get bored of it. Then I bought the English version just to see if it could be better in any way. I was a little disapointed because the voices were not as cute and the script was changed a bit. Being fluent in both languages, to me, the dialogue seemed more delicate, adorable, and appealing in the cantonese version. Somehow in a small way, in the English version, it seemed to have taken some of the magic away. That's my view anyways. Otherwise, this movie was the best and unforgettable to me.

Summary: Kiki, my favorite kids movie
Review: I have a seven and a four year old daughter. They have been watching this movie for more than a year, and I always enjoy watching it with them. The animation is the BEST and the warm-hearted humor is refreshing. This Asian animation will suprise you in its sensitivity. One of the best kids movie I have seen since I became a mom. Wish I could give it more than five stars...

Summary: A must-have anime classic!
Review: The U.S. dub version, released in 1998 (the original version was released in Japan in 1989). I have to admit that I've nver seen the original Japanese-language version, but the English dub cast is exceptional. Big ups to Disney - they could have pulled a "Card Captor Sakura" and completely mangled the film beyond recognition, but they didn't. Kirsten Dunst is terrific as Kiki, but it's the late Phil Hartman as Jiji who really steals the show. The animation is wonderfully fluid, unlike the often-jerkily-drawn anime you see on TV. The movie is kind of meant for kids, but older viewers will find a lot to like too. New theme songs in English sung by Sydney Foster, nice, catchy, even radio-friendly pop tunes. Great story - cute, but never maudlin and never preachy, and not quite as predictable as a lot of American animation. If all you've ever seen of anime is Gundam Wing, Dragonball Z or Pokemon, or if you think that anime is all pornography, bloody violence, or giant robots, you absolutely must see this. (FYI: In a tribute to this film and Miyazaki Hayao's genius, in Disney's new movie, "Lilo & Stitch," Lilo's big sister, Nani, opens up a business called Kiki's Coffee House - which goes to show that Miyazaki, despite the fact that he's called Japan's Walt Disney, has influenced even American Disney animators.)

Summary: great story, gorgeous animation
Review: I am a painter and the artistry of this animation really satisfies me. The characters look like pretty standard Japanimation, but the way they move, the way their clothes and hair move feel very real, and the settings are very convincing. The representation of light and air and motion, as well as the details of both natural things like birds or trees and manmade things like cities and buildings feel so real it's almost like taking a trip to Europe yourself. The story has special appeal for an artist as well. Kiki's search for enduring inspiration is compared to that of an artist in the movie, and the parallels drawn are meaningful and restorative to me as an artist. I've watched this movie many times and continue to see new treats in it. My three year old loves it, too.
