Summary: Too bad that America didn't think of this first.
Review: How often would you run into a non-american film that is really good, in fact so good, that you might want to add it to your dvd or video collection, that you find what's funny in animated movies isn't aways funny in live action films, even a witch who has to spend a year away from home.
Kiki (Kirsten Dunst) is a 13 years old witch who has to spend a year away from home. Her mother is a witch. But Kiki doesn't know how to fly on a broomstick, her mother hasn't taught her yet. But Kiki has hidden talents that catch the people watching this and maybe her by surpise. Kiki decides to leave home on the perfect full moon. And when does come up, she does just that. So on the night Kiki and her black cat named Jiji (the late Phil Hartman) leave home. Kiki arrives in an un-named town. She does a good deed for a baker named Osono (Tess McNeille). She thanks Kiki by giving a room and lets her use the phone for delivery service and throws in a free breakfast.
First couple of delievers are for a pie and a birthday present from a boy's aunt that can't make the party in time. Kiki agrees to deliver a stuffed black cat that looks like her cat Jiji. But some birds warn them about an upcoming storm and Kiki ingores them. The present is in a bird cage. But somehow the cage gets opened. Kiki delivers it with her cat acting stuffed. Kiki goes off to look for the stuffed cat. It was saved by a painter named Ursula (Janeane Garofalo). She brings it to her cabin in the wood outside the town. Kiki finds it there and askes Ursula for it back to get it delivered. Ursula agress, but the cat's head is falling off. Take a look at what Kiki and Jiji talks baout early in the film:

Kiki: Jiji can you turn on the radio, I don't think I can reach it can you do it?
Jiji: Oh grat, now I am sundely the flight attented.

Summary: Sweet and charming!
Review: I've adored this movie since I first saw a subtitled version years ago. It's a sweet, innocent, timeless story about growing up and trying to stay true to your heart. I'll admit, I cringed a bit when I heard that Disney had it and was going to dub it, considering the disasterous dub that was Sailormoon, but I was very pleasantly surprised! Aside from the bubblegum pop songs(which actually fit the story nicely)this is one of the better dubs I've come across. For the most part, it's a clear translation of the original script, the characters kept thier original personalities, and it's even most of the original score! And the voice cast is wonderful. All of the actors give solid, sincere performances in thier roles. This is a great movie to introduce a kid or your own inner child to.

Summary: Great video
Review: My 20 month old daughter and my 7 year old son alike love this movie. I've seen it 20 times myself and am still not sick of it. This movie sets positive, wonderful and "realistic" (as realistic as a witch can be) examples of behavior including courage, determination, inventiveness and a sense of humor when faced with challenging situations. I am looking forward to more videos like this.

Summary: Phenomenal!
Review: I first saw this film in Japanese when I was (briefly!) a student of that language, and even though I didn't understand every word, I was blown away.

Although Amazon's description indicates that this film is dubbed, the version I have (distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment, which I believe is Disney?) _is not_ dubbed and has completely redone voices buy the likes of Phil Hartman, Kirsten Dunst, and Jeanine Garofalo. If this is in fact the version you are getting, and Amazon is wrong, then you are in for a nice surprise. Forget about the poorly done dubbing! In this case you unless you knew the history of the film, you would think that these voice-overs were original.

Bottom line: even if you have no interest in the anime/manga genre, I think you will still enjoy this film. Miyazaki is considered one of the best in the business, and his story and animation is a delight to behold. Even if this is the dubbed version, it is still good (I would say 4 stars, considering that dubbing never seems to turn out that well.) If it is the redone "American" version, do not hesitate to buy it!

Summary: A great movie for kids of all ages
Review: This movie is perfect for Pokemon-addicted kids. Once they see this, the tykes will no longer accept that garbage and demand more quality anime. Better yet, adults can watch this movie and not die from sugar-shock.

A great light-hearted story and quality animation makes Kiki's Delivery Service a winner.

Summary: extremely well written and drawn anime
Review: although i know many people who would consider this a "childs" anime, i was very intrigued with kikis delivery service. one i started watching i couldnt stop. its very good. great animation and good dubbing. i was suprised to find out that the late phil hartmen of saterday night live did a voice for one of the major charactors (dont remember his name). its not full of action or suspense. this is on of those animes you put on to relax. very very good. i would suggest this to anybody with an open mind.

Summary: Miyazaki Delivers Another Charmer
Review: Though not as epic as "Princess Mononoke" or as cuddly as "My Neighbor Totoro", "Kiki's Delivery Service" is nonetheless and enchanting and beautifully crafted animated film for all ages. I'm not a big fan of the anime style but Miyazaki trancends the genre in every project he takes on. All of his animated triumphs play like a film and ignore all the preconceived notions of what an "animated" film is supposed to look and feel like. There are moments of great beauty in his work. His pacing is slow and deliberate, often lingering on lush establishing shots and scenery. The reult is magical and moving. His amazing strokes of subtelty make American feature animation seem so frantic and chaotic in comparrison. Though the story here gets a little lost and the end feels a bit rushed it is still a film worth viewing, particularly for fans of anmation. The characters are strong and well-rounded, particularly that of Kiki. Kids should love this film and parents will be entertained as well.

Summary: It's not a girl movie!
Review: My two-year-old and three-year-old boy have been crazy about trains and cars since they were interested in toys. However, they have watched this video more than twenty times. There are trains, birds, a bike that can fly and a broom that can also fly, and a dirigible that eventually crashed. This is definitly a wonderful video for boys.
