Using futuristic weapons and body armor they battle the evil forces of the Genma Corporation. Spectacular animation matched with superior characters makes this a staple of Japanese Animation. This original series has spawned others along the line such as "Bubblegum Crash, and AD Police Files." New versions of this series have been produced for Japanese television. Although slightly primitive in comparison, Bubblegum Crisis 2048 is an excellent companion to this series.

Review: Bubblegum Crisis 2030 ovas (1-8) sci-fi/action: set in the same universe as A.D. Police Files, this is several years into the future. The secret vigilante group known as the Knight Sabers has been formed. They arrive earlier than the A.D. Police to the crime scenes and usually destroy the boomers without their help. The quality of this anime is equal to the A.D.Polic Files. (mentioned above). The Knight Sabers are women that work undercover along with a rich mistress named Sylia. They wear these mecha outfits which they call hard suits. Their sole purpose is to destroy renegade boomers which are causing public harm; they never handle human/ civilian crimes ( they leave that up to the regular police). Most of the episodes are self-contained stories, but it is good to watch all 8 of them for continuity. The animation is fluid, the character designs and backdrop of a futuristic Tokyo are beautiful, like a world based on Bladerunner. The action is gritty and gory. And the stories are interesting albit cynical. The only problem with this series was the lack interesting characters: something which is corrected in the next series. Blood and gore, light nudity, for adults only. The episodes are also self contained, except for the last 2 episodes which continued. Ends on 8 then connects with the anime Bubblegum Crisis 2040

Summary: Classic Anime
Review: Bubblegum Crisis as much as any other anime, is what brought Anime to the American mainstream. The DVD brings an end to the perpetual subbed vs dubbed argument by allowing you to choose. The animation and story are good and this is a DVD that I rewatch frequently.I do have a few complaints, mostly the packaging. This is not packaged as a DVD, but in normal jewel boxes and packed more like software than as a DVD set. Also, for a series that isn't really very long, it seems strange that the set requires 3 DVDs. Complaints aside, I recommend this series to anime fans.

Review: Bubblegum Crisis has long been one of the most popular Anime series in existence. Take buxom ladies in super-powered armor (Called Hardsuits) and pit them against an evil monolithic corporation called Genom, add in a killer soundtrack and Gibson-esque environment and you've got Bubblegum Crisis. Lots of explosions, computers and big robots. Life doesn't get any better.

Summary: Wonderful Series - 1 small glitch.
Review: Bubblegum Crisis has never looked so good! It is truely a wonderful anime classic, a good starter series for folks new to the genre. It has great mecha action and sexy female protagonists you grow to love. And great drama - I still get misty eyed when I watch the end of Episode 5, Moonlight Rambler. The quality of the animation is excellent, especially in episodes 4,5 and 6, where it seems like they had a bigger budget. Only had one small technical problem. The English subtitles on Episode 2, chapter 2, would not display. If you navigate the chapter 3, they are back on just fine. It's only a small (3 minutes?) segment, and you can switch over to the english dub if you really need to. The glitch is why I give it only 4 out of 5 stars.

Review: Bubblegum Crisis HAS to be one of the BEST animes in existance! The artwork rocks even this far down the line, the storyline is amazing, and incredibly fun to watch! All in all it's worth your money folks! I only have two qualms about this series, only one of which will really influence you purchasing this set. One, which doesn't really matter, is the sorriful absence of the English-version soundtrack to buy on CD. Oh yes, they dubbed the songs into English, but they're painfully difficult to find, I doubt they've even been released. The second one being the fact that the series is only 8 episodes long, it was cut short after a dispute between the producers. Bubblegum Crash and 2040 seriously DO NOT count. However, there are three DVDs, thus explaining the price. But it's definately a must-have, for fans and newbies alike ^_^

Review: Bubblegum Crisis is one of the most popular anime series there is. One of the main reasons for this is that Bubblegum Crisis features many of the most popular elements in anime. You've got your cool mecha, you've got big ol' ugly androids to slay, and you've got cute females in hardsuits...what else could you ask for? A plot? What're you, spoiled? Well, the plot isn't quite THAT nonexistent. In fact, a lot of the episodes are really solid in their plots. Unfortunately, there are a few episodes that seem to leave out details that would have been really nice to know about. You have to do quite a bit of guesswork and extrapolation on your own at times, which can become a bit tiresome after a while. As for the characters, well... they'd be really interesting if I could know more about them. Details as to how the four women met each other and became Knight Sabers are far and few in between, as well as serious character development. (Except for Nene, that is ... [dreamy sigh]) Apparently, there is a separate music video that explains the origin of each Knight Saber, but it's not part of the actual series. It would have been nice, though. Animation is generally pretty good, especially in the action scenes, but the soundtrack is what most fans of this series love most about Bubblegum. If you like Japanese pop at all, you'll love the soundtrack and themes to this series. One warning, though: the dubbed version of Crisis is not quite up to par. Voices are usually quite mismatched, and the voice acting falls flat precisely in the scenes where convincing acting is most important for credibility. If you can, get the subtitled version, but the store I rent from only carries the dubs. :-( The feel is heavily reminiscent of Blade Runner, and the creators of Crisis cleverly intersperse references to Blade Runner throughout the series (one of the less subtle references is how Priss's rock band is named The Replicants). It's not all gritty, though, and the occasional humorous touch adds a nice light feel to the series. Overall, not a bad watch. In fact, at times, Bubblegum Crisis can be really good. Unfortunately, oversights and carelessness here and there keep this series from being all it can be.

But all of this stuff would mean nothing if the story wasn't good. As it turns out, the story is great and classic anime. Follow the exploits of the Knight Sabers, a group of women who don mechanized suits against the malicious Genom Corporation and its evil "boomers," (cyborg/robots). From the first episode, to the 8th and last episode, the animation is great. Each story is well done, some are continuations while other episodes are storylines within themselves. But what puts this over the top, is the soundtrack. In fact, the Bubblegum Crisis soundtrack is one of the best anime soundtracks ever made. Lots of dark, foreboding rock music set against the neon glow of futuristic Tokyo help to create a really enveloping atmoshphere. This series is the reason why I got into anime. One of the great anime series of all time.
