Summary: Almost Excellent for Ultra-Purists, But...
Review: As an Ultraman fan for more than 30 years, it is no doubt that this DVD is a most wonderful gift for us. Thanks for 4-kids to bring this original Japanese vision to USA. I have seen all Ultraman Tiga, Dyna, Gaia and new Cosmos series (most in Asian VCD format) and own Ultraman Tiga original soundtrack, but I still bought this set as part of collection because DVD has best quality in picture and sound. I think the original theme, end song and soundtrack are much better. I do not give 5 stars for minor reasons, my suggestions to the furture Ultraman Tiga volumes are - 1. Do not add any other trailers at the beginning. 2. Install more Asian subtitles with English, I know Ultraman series are very popular in Asian Countries, such as Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan, it will be perfect if all those subtitles are available in DVD. Therefore I can buy lots of set for my friends. 3. It is good to have English vision theme song as bonus features, but it will be better to add original Ultraman theme song MTV in DVD.

Review: Great for dedicated Ultra-Fans wanting to see the episodes in their original language, very good video and audio quality, excellent and accurate subtitles.

One minor nitpick: While the opening titles and theme music are same as the original japanese version, the episode title cards are strangely edited out. No big deal.

One major annoyance: during the Ultraman vs. monster fight scenes, the music is drowned out in favor of the sound effects. The original japanese episodes had the music and sound effects better balanced. This re-mixing by Funimation may have been in response to a criticism of the U.S. version, where the music drowned out the sound effects. I'd prefer a better balance of the two; neither should drown the other out.

Summary: Why didn't they include the english dub as an option?
Review: How sad for the smaller kids that the powers that be chose not to include an english dubbing! A FoxBox version DVD would be the best version for the kids, but alas, not available- WHY???

Summary: Tiga rules!
Review: I am so tired of people writing spoiler novels! Stick to your opinion, not writing short novels filled with details about the dvds! It's nice to hear your personal thoughts, we can buy the dvd for the rest!

Summary: It is, afterall, Ultraman
Review: I grew up watching Ultraman and Johnny Socko and his Giant Robot. I was very excited to see a new Ultraman series come along. I have the 2 Ultraman movies on DVD and thought they were good. So why did I give this 3 stars? Because it is still Ultraman. The hero I grew up with and pretended to be fighting rubber monsters and crashing through boxes that were suppose to be buildings. Why I didn't score it higher? I don't speak Japanese. I don't mind a good dubbing or even a bad dubbing for that matter. I simply hate reading subtitles and that is what you get. There is no option to have the stories in English.

The action is cheesy and the story is simple which is what I expected. Monsters are attacking the world and once again, we need the help of Ultraman. The Ultraman of the 60's isn't around and the world relies on Ultraman Tiga who can change into 3 different versions of himself depending on the monster he is fighting. He still has the weakness of only staying in the atmosphere for 3 minutes and the warning light begins to beep signaling that the fight needs to end quickly.

One last thing, if you buy the dvd with the t-shirt, it's a size large which really sucks if you're a XL or greater. Maybe my son will grow into it. If you really like Ultraman and don't mind reading, you might want to rent this and wait for an English version.

Summary: Tiga sounds better in Japanese instead of dubbed crap!
Review: If you like the original Ultraman-Tiga is for you! I am 38 and watched the enitre dvd set in one sitting-completely enthralled. After 30 years of buying imports, Ultraman is available in America and in Japanese lanuguage! How sad it is that some reviewers think that everything should be dubbed and Americanized(ruined) instead of being enjoyed in it's original format Subtitles teach kids to read and broaden their horizons (to be interested in sub-titled movies/shows) SO MUCH better than the crap pushed on American TV. I grew up on the dubbed stuff and don't know how I survived it! Tiga is more for adults maybe who have kids that can appreciate something better than Mighty Morphin garbage! SO buy it and ignore the whiners!( WHY WHY WHY? Oh please!)

Summary: Very Good Entry into the Ultra Series
Review: Monsters - A
Comments: All pretty neat, more polished costumes than original series.

Special Effects B
- Terrible CGI
- minitures more detailed
- You can still see the wires sometimes(!)
(which is actually kinda cool)
- mecha-minitures more detailed
- more composite shots, most well-done
-> I wish they would blow up the monsters, rather than use
the VERY poorly done CGI explosions when the monsters are off'd by Tiga <-

Stories B+
- Must be tough to incorporate a giant monster
into the script every week

Sets A
- BIG improvement, sets look believable
as do the costumes

Cinematography C
- nice composition and subdued lighting but
this looks like it was shot on DV, and has a
"video-y" quality

Direction C
- pedestrian live action sequences in most episodes

Music D
- terrible. Japanese pop-synth uggh! Remember the great
march themes of the original?

Overall a worthwhile entry into the Ultra Series. Improvements intechnology have resulted in broader scope of episodes. Effects have improved but are uneven - but are always bountiful, vivid, and entertaining more than realistic. If there's one area Tsburaya should improve in future series entries, it's the music. Stories are good. Looking forward to the rest of the Tiga series and beyond. (Rena - is played by Hiatta's daughter from the original series, is quite easy on the eyes : )

Overall B
