Summary: AWESOME cartoon series
Review: ...P>If you didn't know it, Megaman, the video game hero, was featured in an animated series from 1994-1996. However, the series was not just a retelling of the game storyline, it used many unique plots none of the games ever had. See the episode summaries below for some of them.

Differences between cartoons and games aside, this is a pretty good cartoon, with plenty of action. This set contains the entire second season, which consists of nearly five hours worth of material (a steal of a deal if you ask me.) Read on for some episode summaries.

The Beginning - During a conflict with Dr. Wily's robots, Megaman is injured badly and recounts the series of events that led up to his fighting Dr. Wily.

Electric Nightmare - Dr. Wily takes over the city's electrical power, and uses various machines to do his work for him.

The Big Shake - Dr. Wily discovers a way to create earthquakes, and threatens the city with this newfound potential.

Mega-Pinocchio - Megaman is reprogrammed into thinking he is a human, when in fact Dr. Wily takes control of his mind.

Incredible Shrinking Mega Man - With a shrinking ray, Megaman is, you guessed it, shrunk. Meanwhile Dr. Wily uses this technology to shrink major cities and sell them to criminals.

Bot Transfer - Megaman's body is switched with Snakeman's. Dr. Wily decides to take advantage of this at the upcoming United Nations Science Conference.

Ice Age - Dr. Wily steals a supply of liquid nitrogen and uses it to freeze major cities in glaciers.

Cold Steel - Dr. Wily dresses three of his robots up as rock stars. They play subliminal messages which hypnotize city residents into building him a radio tower.

Future Shock - Through an odd twist of events, Megaman is sent thirty years into the future. Due to his thirty year absence, Wily has taken over the world (yep, he's still alive.)

Robosaur Park - Dr. Wily uses a robotic virus to revert all robots into a primitive state.

The Mysterious Island of Dr. Wily - On an island, Dr. Wily builds a device to create robots from rocks. However, the device doesn't operate as planned and the unthinkable happens - Dr. Light and Dr. Wily form a temporary truce and work together.

Like I said, this is an awesome cartoon. If you like the games, check it out. The lack of accuracies does nothing to derail it.

Summary: ADV Does it again!
Review: ADV has been great when it comes to bringing out great animation and this is definitely no exception. The Megaman series aired here in the USA for a few years, however, the time slots the show was given and the channels the show aired on, caused many people to miss this great show. For those of you who never saw this show, but did see another show called Captain N: The Game Master, you may remember Megaman being a main character in the show....and based on how Megaman was portrayed in that show you may feel that this dvd is not for you (dont get me wrong, Captain N is by far one of my favorite toons ever)...if your thinking like that STOP! Megaman in this anime series is portrayed more closely to his videogame self. Most of the guys from the games are there (Cutman, Dr. Wily, Proto Man, Rush, Dr. Light) and there is allot more game influenced action as well (Megaman gaining powers from his foes, Proto Man's origin, etc). This dvd is the first half of the series, the second half will be out this March. If you are fan of Mega Man, anime, old cartoons, videogames, or are just looking for something new, this is a great dvd to purchase. If your looking for a load of extras, or tons of blood and gore, then this might not be for you, but you should buy it anyways!

Summary: Finally!
Review: Finally a cartoon set that has been done right. It's a shame really that it's Megaman seeing as there is such a vast majority of 80's cartoons that were better than this (You know it's true) but never the less, It's here and it's good. Now all we need is The Real Ghostbusters, Inspector Gadget, Turtles, Captain N, Galaxy High (There are only thirteen episodes, they can't be that hard to release), Batman the animated tales, Thundercats, Ducktales, Super Mario Bros etc to be released in the same way as this.
Don't stop now!

Summary: Megaman!
Review: I am the biggest Megaman fan, and when I saw this in stores, I was thinking, "Anime! Subtitled!" Nah, this was that American cartoon of Megaman with the quirky differences. A good presentation, though doomed from the start due to inconsistencies and overall cheesiness.

Inconsistencies are few but major.

1. The biggest being that Protoman was created by Dr. Light in the videogame, not Dr. Wily.
2. All the characters have lost their cute, anime look. They have all been redesigned to look all muscular and shiny. I am willing to bet that most people prefer the anime style.
3. Megaman also "loses power" if he shoots too much "Plasma", completely inconsistent with the game as there was rarely a minute that went by without shooting something.
4. Roll looks totally different from the videogame, has gained a few feet in height, and has been adorned with a weird Ghost-busterish outfit (rather than her red dress), complete with a hand vacuum, toaster, egg mixer, hair dryer, whatever the heck she wanted her hand to be.
7. Megaman can now steal the enemy's weapons by touching them. It seems too easy. Why even come close to him? You know he's just going to steal your power and then use it against you.
6. It seems pretty silly that Dr. Wily could completely reprogram Dr. Light's robots by pointing a laser gun at them, no? I don't think he did that in the videogame.

There are also things that I simply don't like about this series; cheesiness comes to mind. Do they always have to call Megaman, "Mega Jerk" or "Mega Dweeb" or Mega whatever. (The prefix "Mega" isn't even original - you all knew Megaman's REAL name is Rockman didn't you?) The comic relief of Rush is only annoying. Does every episode have to end with Rush doing something silly? And don't get me started about that Robosaurus Park episode. Geez.

There are many things I like about this series, however. Megaman's voice is ten times better than that dog awful voice used in Megaman 8. In fact, most of the voice acting is superb, though brought down by the aforementioned cheesiness of the series. The action is very good sometimes, particularly the episode of the giant boat comes to mind, where he subsequently defeats Gutsman, Cutman, Bombman, and Protoman. That was cool.

And... it's MEGAMAN, in all his glory. For thirteen (13) episodes at this price, this is a real deal; sheer value makes this set a must-buy. Plus, it's a comlete collection if you buy both sets! I am glad ADV has once again decided to give fans exactly what they want at reasonable prices (compared to other ungodly, overcharging companies... FUNimation comes to mind). Also, the Metallic cover and the awesome cover art makes this a flashy addition to your DVD collection. So, buy it today!

Summary: This isn't supposed to be a clone of the game's plot.
Review: I haven't bought this DVD, but I want to once I get enough money.
The series is great-and I think some of the reviewers make too much of a big deal about the differences between the series and the game-saying they "messed up".
What a load of bull!
Do you think anyone would make such big difference on accident?
They did it to add some spice to the plot-like who wants a main hero character that can't think and make his own decisions? "Go out and Defeat Dr. Willy Mega Man!", "Yes, Master Light."
Even take a look @ some of the later Mega Man games and I think you'll see that Mega Man can think, so it looks like the games screwed up too!
Anyway, it's a good series and I highly recomend it.

Summary: Wow... I thought I'd never see this again!
Review: I used to be a huge ("Mega", if you will) fan of this cartoon, and I was excited to see it on DVD! It's been years since I've lasted watched this cartoon, but now that I've added it to my video collection, I can reclaim those memories whenever I wish. I only remembered two episodes ("Mega-Pinochio" and "Future Shock") and I couldn't wait to see them again.

The animation is superb, and the shading is very well-done. Not even most Disney movies do this much shading! And the reflection on Protoman's visor is just awesome. Some of the character designs are a bit on the odd side (Where's Ringman's other hand?), but you get used to it real quick. Though, I forgot that Iceman sounded like a gruff Brooklynite(!). The voice acting, otherwise, is great, with some very punny lines.

I watched every episode from start to finish, except "Robosaur Park", which was just torture. That was laying on the cheese a tad too thick for my taste. But, I can't wait for the other volume to come out and I hope they include "Crime of the Century", because, technically, that was on the third season.

Even with the "Robosaur Park" episode of doom, this still makes a great addition to any anime fan's library, and is a must-have for Megaman fans. I'm glad I added it to my DVD collection. No regrets there. It was one of the best birthday presents I've gotten.

Summary: IT"S BACK
Review: Okay, I bought one of these bad boys since I love Mega Man! The shows are supurb! Nice animation, great voices,[Dr. Wily has a French accent, and he keeps pronouncing Cut Man, "Cartman"] cool action! But there are differences between the shows and games, here are the differences, fresh from mmhp.net:

1.Proto Man is a bad guy in the cartoons. He's supposed to be good.

2.Mega Man's history as given in "The Beginning (not)" is somewhat off.

3.Proto Man's history is also amiss. For that matter, even the cartoons themselves can't make up their minds as to who actually built the guy.

4. Roll is Mega Man's sidekick in the cartoons.

5.All of the robots act as though they are alive, complete with free wills and emotions. This quite frankly tosses the entire premise of the X games right out the window.

6.Mega Man, Roll, and most of the Robot Masters are way too tall.

7.Mega Man and the other robotic characters all tend to look way too old too.

8.Most of the robots gained muscular looks even though they don't actually have (or need) muscles.

9.Mega Man and Proto Man can, oddly enough, fire only with their left arms.

10.None of the Robot Masters use their weapons the way they do in the games, and when Mega Man acquires their Master Weapons, the way he uses them is even worse.

11.Mega Man doesn't change colors when he uses Master Weapons, and he can use more than one of them simultaneously.

12.Mega Man can acquire Master Weapons without defeating the Robot Master who possesses it. This is not true in the games--in the games, to net a weapon, Mega Man must defeat its holder.

13.Mega Man has no Mega Buster, yet the cartoons definitely take place after the game in which he acquired it. Instead, Mega Man has a strange plasma cannon that can fire everything from huge blasts to paper-thin beams, depending on his mood. Like his brother, he can also fire a continuous stream of energy if he so desires--which is something he can't do in the games.

14.Arm cannons are called "blasters." What'd you expect?

15.Proto Man's blaster fires weird, sparking beams of blue electricity. Where did that come from?

16.Mega Man is called "Mega" by most of the characters. This nickname is never used anywhere else; in the original series games everyone has the decency to use his real name. (Well, okay, so maybe Wily doesn't, but he doesn't count, and he never uses "Mega" either.)

17.Mega Man's energy meter doesn't have any units. Just three big buttons.

18.Eddie (Flip-Top) is green in the cartoons. He's supposed to be red.

19.Mega Man's hair is brown in the cartoons. It's supposed to be black.

20.Bubble Bats are called Batontons.

21.The Japanese games supposedly take place in Tokyo (natch). The cartoons take place in New York City. The English games don't specify. Make up your minds, people...

If you like Mega Man, and don't mind those changes, buy this DVD. My only gripe is the lack of special features, [ADV prievews, weird shows, one of the weirdest being "Cat Girl Nuku Nuku". That show can be described in 3 words: made for hentai.] and the fact that the menus appear after the shows. But I'm not gonna take off a star because of that.

Summary: Action cartoon fans rejoice!
Review: The Megaman A Hero is Born DVD is a wonderful 13 episode collection of the blue bomber's first episodes. The animation in the first episodes are superb, although not quite Anime. However, in some cases, that's probably a good thing. This Megaman is somewhat different from the game's interpretation, but is actually surprisingly faithful. It's not a very deep cartoon, but it's action packed and just a joy to watch. And thanks to the usage of robots, it's very family friendly. Pick this one up as soon as possible!
