Summary: Series will get even better and more disturbing from this..
Review: In Devil's Advocate, we start from the scene where Caska is in mercy of ruthless soldiers looking to rape and kill her (they start to undress her with their daggers), while Guts faces 100 soldiers alone, deeply wounded and his massive sword weakened..
(this is how Guts got the legendary title "100 men Slayer".)

Back at the headquarters, The King of Midland and his various generals meet about the all-important Doldrey Castle, long since captured by the Chudan Empire. Griffith plans an attack and the King agrees despite the protests of his other officers (since no great general could ever penetrate its heavy defenses). Only one other general supports Griffith's actions, General Raban. Knowing the outcome of the 100 year war is at stake in this battle, the Hawks attack Doldrey Castle while heavely outnumbered... and this will be the first time Guts realize that he might not live through the fight against greatest general of Chudan Empire, General Boscone.

Devil's Advocate is the start of fast rise and horrible fall of the Hawk's and one of the main characters in Griffith. This eventual fall starts when Guts realizes that he has been struggling to find a purpose in his life. He has been living his life according to what the other people tell him. Realizing that he too can have a dream and the freedom to pursue it (probably partly alarmed by what Griffith has started to become in his pursuit of his dream), he decides to leave the Hawks.

I'm giving Berserk - Devil's Advocate three stars. It's not the BEST of the series, but definatly not the worst.
Expect Berserk's story and plot to gets even better from here on with more gruesome violence and VERY disturbing events.

Summary: This is a Brilliant Work...
Review: Now having watched all of the first 4 DVDs, I am anxiously awaiting the 5th and 6th DVD's release. The story begins to get much more twisted and dark by this point in the story.

On Berserk as a whole, I can best compare this series to Record of Lodoss War, but with much more violence and adult themes than Lodoss War had. This series is definately not for children. The story is of a mercenary named Guts and set in a world similar to Lodoss War, but with fewer fantastic creatures and different odd races (most all of the characters are human, with a few exceptions). Do not expect to see a bunch of elves and dwarves and dragons, the non-human characters are few and far between.

One hilarious bonus feature on all of the Berserk DVDs is the Outtakes. Basically, it is a series of line reading errors placed over the same scene in the original anime scenes. Watch them after viewing all of the episodes on the DVD so that you understand the context, but they are truly hilarious. It's very different than those "outtakes" on other animated DVDs, which are actual added scenes.

This is an excelent series; any anime fan should buy it.

Summary: Great so bad it's good film
Review: One of Joan Crawford's later movies, pure camp. She plays the owner of a circus, where people are mysteriously dying. Other than Joan's usual over the top performance, this movie is also worth watching for a stunning Diana Dors who looks really good for 36. Also Judy Geeson, from To Sir with Love, is good till the ending. Frankly it was slapped on and so I can't blame her. The main problem of this movie are the long circus scenes.

Summary: Commoners and Peers
Review: One of the most unique aspects of this series is that while it purports to be a high testosterone, kill or die trying series with the battle going to the guy with the biggest sword, it is actually much, much more. Both Guts and Caska have become strongly delineated characters with personalities and stories that extend far off the battlefield. Even the bit players take on lives of their own. And there really are stories 'off' the battlefield (or, perhaps, the battlefields are not all occupied with swordsmen. I have become increasing wrapped up in the series as it has been told, and suspect that most other action anime fans will feel the same. Definitely the best set of episodes so far.

The first episode 'Bonfire of Dreams' wraps up the previous DVD's cliffhanger ending as Caska gathers herself together for one last effort and Guts does his famous imitation of a human lawn mower. The most important development is that this changes their relationship to mutual admiration and even friendship. While Griffith does not play much of a part in this episode, he does manage to demonstrate his genuine concern for his two lieutenants, which greatly boosts morale among the White Hawks.

In 'The Decisive Battle' and 'The Conqueror' Griffith and the White Hawks do what a hundred years of battle on the part of Midland has never accomplished before - The retaking of Castle of Doldrey, from which Chuder has continually harried the Midland forces. Since the Hawks must overcome a 5,000 to 30,000 disadvantage and gain control of the heavily defended castle, this is no trivial accomplishment. It will end the struggles on the battlefields, but thrusts Griffith into a more deadly conflict - court intrigue - as many of the Midland nobles are fiercely opposed to his rapid rise.

Finally, 'Moment of Glory' finds the White Hawks welcomed as heroes, celebrated and feted. True to their natures, both Guts and Caska are uncomfortable as courtly figures. Griffith, of course, fits right in, but not as well as he would wish. At the end, we find that everything he fought for is at risk, leaving us waiting impatiently for the next DVD.

Summary: Another GREAT Dvd!
Review: Simply GREAT!
I think the story is getting thicker and the characters More complex! To tell someone Just coming in on this series, it is a Violent Action packed story of Guts and honor! With a GREAT storyline! It is based on a comic book and now has its own series, It isn't TOO violent Though for an Anime (think Braveheart) Most Violent Animes are TOO violent and get ridiculous, This story uses violence when needed, not to BE violent but to show it is a violent world. A MUST have! Buy this one along with the others!

Summary: NOT THE JOAN CRAWFORD MOVIE OF THE SAME TITLE
Review: Some of the reviews of this movie seem to be about the film that Joan Crawford starred in. This is not that film, but another with the same title.
