Summary: Daria is simply the best.
Review: Daria is the almost the best animated TV series ever! (Beavis and Butthead is the best). I am sad that they aren't making the shows anymore :-(

Summary: Alot better than "Is It Fall Yet?"!
Review: Even though "Is It College Yet?" is better than the previous Daria movie, "Is It Fall Yet?", it still is not great. If you've already read my review of "Is It Fall Yet?", from this it may sound like I don't like Daria very much, but I do, which is why I'm being so tough on these two movies. Anyways, one thing that is better about "Is It College Yet?", is that Daria finally breaks up with Tom (too bad it didn't happen sooner, but then, too bad he came on the show in the first place). Another thing is, it doesn't feel like the end of the series, instead it opens up doors for numerous Daria possibilities, maybe even one day, an "Is It Midterms Yet?", which I think, was the better direction to go in. I was also happy to see that Daria and Jane are going to college in the same town (Boston), rather then have them say tearful goodbyes. Oh, and one last thing, Andrea and Upchuck???? But, what I didn't like most, was that it still seemed like they (the writers) were going for that soap opera crap. So, I guess if you enjoyed "Is It Fall Yet?", you'll most definitely like "Is It College Yet?" better, is the point I'm trying to make. *I don't usually like to propagandize, but reruns of Daria are going to be shown on Noggin this summer, starting in July, so if you have that channel, you're in luck!*

Summary: This DVD is for any person obsessed with Daria
Review: I just started becoming a Daria fan, and I loved this DVD even though I didn't know much of the characters yet. Even if you haven't seen the show, this is still a great movie. Unfortunately, no new episodes of Daria were made after this movie. Oh well.

Summary: Great movie...shouldn't the series be on DVD too??
Review: I really enjoyed watching this movie as well as the two 30-minute extras that came with it. And would HIGHLY recommend this dvd to those who enjoyed watching the series on TV. I received this dvd only 2 weeks ago and have already watched the movie and extra episodes twice in the little free time I have! Word of advice though, do watch the 30-minute episodes before the movie. They ease you into the movie with the info on where we were left off last! This is the same for "Daria -Is It Fall yet?". Another DVD to have! The 30-minute episodes are a wonderful bonus! It would be great to watch "Is It Fall Yet?" before this one, of course! Another thing is that it would be really TERRIFIC if the entire season were put on DVD so that we Daria fans can watch and re-watch each episode over and over again. Could MTV please do so? I know the series was released on VHS but that is currently unattainable for those not living in the States. I tried to order it from an Amazon.com seller but was told that they don't send internationally! Please put the entire series on DVD!

Summary: Deadpan cynicism
Review: I totally loved this show. It's full of crazy characters (Daria's dad in particular) and hilarious stereotypes (who sadly reoccur with frightening frequency in real life). Plus it's the second show to be spun-off from Beavis and Butthead (King of the Hill being the first). It's weird to think of them all existing in the same world. What separates Daria from other popular animation such as The Simpson's or Family Guy is the character interaction. In some places Daria almost feels like a drama, giving it a touch more integrity. She's a tough girl to love. Daria basically has no faith in anything but her own judgment. It's makes a little bit hard to get close to her but she is a proud outsider in a mad world. This DVD features the last (extended) episode of Daria making it to college and what happens once her High School life is over. There are two bonus episodes (Boxing Daria and Lucky Strike) included. The DVD is in 1.33:1 as drawn, the colors are bright and clear as is the Dolby 2.0 soundtrack

Summary: A great ending to a great show
Review: I was so sad to see Daria end. She was my cartoon inspiration, uncompromising and unapologetic for being real and cynical in a superficial world. Now, she's off to college and MTV has provided the final chapter (or is it?) to her television life. Thank God the cable channel Noggin is doing reruns because I couldn't imagine just NOT having this show around anymore.
I too was glad that Daria and Tom's relationship ended. They turned out to be from two completely different worlds (and families) and were going in different directions. Daria gets where she needs to go through respect while Tom uses a family recommendation letter. Thanks, Daria, for moving on.
Jane also went through a transition and realized that she did not want to end up like her brother, broke and living at home. Trent calls her a "sellout," but I disagree. She had real talent that was going to take her somewhere.
Okay, it may seem like I'm too into this show, but I really think it was so different than everything else MTV had at the time (or even has now). Who would have thought that a minor teenage girl character from a gross-out cartoon like "Beavis and Butthead" would spin off into her own very intelligent, very cleverly funny show? It was a show that would speak to millions of people who see past appearances and look deeper. I was one of them.

Summary: DESPERATELY SEEKING DARIA
Review: I'm glad to see that Daria has put in another appearance on the DVD scene. The best part about adding this DVD to my collection was that I'd never seen this 2nd Daria/MTV movie (or the 2 bonus episodes - Boxing Daria and Lucky Strike) before. It was a nice touch to include the character profiles and some original sketches as well as the Beavis & Butt-head easter egg (accessed by highlighting Daria's graduation gown hem by going left from Special Features at the menu screen). Daria lives on.

Review: INTRODUCTION:
Although the Daria series never quite achieved the success of the series that spun it off, Beavis And Butt-Head, the series was no less excellent. This was demonstrated well by the fact that there were TWO Daria movies. Following the final season of the series, the second movie, Is It College Yet?, aired. And now the film has been released on DVD! Read on for my review. BASIC PLOT:
This film takes place after the last episode of the series. The school year is nearing its end, and the students of Lawndale High are trying to decide what they'll do next year. But, the characters face some unexpected obstacles in their search for the right college. All of the characters deal with their respective obstacles in their own way, in hopes of getting into the college of their choice. FILM OPINIONS:
To put it simply, if you like the series, you'll like this movie. I especially liked the "time traveling" intro sequence. And like the intro before it, the end credits are also nice. Rather than the "alter egos" that the end credits of episodes give you, this one gives you some pictures of "later in life" scenes of the characters. These must be seen to be appreciated. Although this is an excellent film overall, I do have a few complaints. First of all is the uneven emphasis on certain characters. Upchuck, one of the funniest characters in the entire series, only appears twice in the whole film! Why!? Likewise, of all the characters, it is probably Jodie who is faced with the most difficult decision of all, but the movie doesn't focus on her problems nearly enough. And Kevin and Brittany's roles are WAY too small! They are extremely funny characters, and their lacking presence here ultimately hurts the film. But, despite some complaints, this IS a very good film, and any fan of the series should see it. DVD:
For the most part, I am impressed with the DVD. In addition to the movie itself, there are two episodes of the series - Lucky Strike and Boxing Daria. These are the two episodes of the series that lead up to the movie, so if you're not up to date on the series, they can help lead you in to the movie. There are also character profiles and sketches - a nice little bonus. But, like the film itself, I have a few complaints with the way the DVD was done. First of all is the start-up. You can't skip through the FBI warning, the Paramount logo, or the MTV Home Video logo - you have to wait through these things every time you turn on the DVD! The Best of Beavis And Butt-Head DVDs, sold by MTV Home Video and Time Life Video, suffered from this same problem. The second problem is the most major one of all - THIS IS THE EDITED FOR TIME VERSION OF THE MOVIE! WHY!? The Is It Fall Yet? DVD featured the uncensored version, so why is this the edit? This is simply unforgivable. I'm not saying that the edited version is unwatchable, but still, they should have said somewhere on the package that this was the edited version. OVERALL:
Overall, this is an pretty good package. No Daria fan should be without this movie. If you liked the series, then don't overlook the movies! Like the rest of the series, the movies really must be seen to be appreciated.

Summary: The End of a Long Journey; the Beginning of Another
Review: So we reach the end of one phase; although Principal Li isn't eaten by a giant worm, and the school isn't blown up, Daria and Company have, in those immortal words, survived high school -- even without the aid of the Ramones. And what happens after high school? Well, you start making decisions more-or-less on your own that will affect the entire future course of your life. It's scary and one is tempted to duck out... but the decisions have to be made. What college? What major? College at all? Go to a college that looks good on a resume, or one that actually fits your own needs or desires? And many others. Daria is stuck choosing between two schools -- the prestigious Ivy League-ish school that boyfriend Tom's family almost owns and which he will certainly be attending, and which Tom will attend, or the rather less prestigious school that her parents attended. Jane is panicking; she had intended to attend Boston Fin Arts College, but now she's beginning to have second thoughts; essentially, beginning to doubt whether she's good enough. And so on. For what is apparently the last hurrah of the series, we see the characters all being gloriously themselves; one of the first things Daria says as she and Jane share a pizza is "I wanted some sisterhood, just so long as it didn't involve my actual sister." Daria's acceptance speech as she receives a surprise award at graduation is a masterpiece of anome and sardonicism, summing up neatly some of the core concepts of the series. Daria, as a character, resonates deeply with many viewers, of course -- all too many of us barely survived high school intact (sometimes even in physical terms), and the loner who ignores or even actively disdains the values and enthusiasms of the majority and suffers for it is a classic archetype (or stereotype, depending on what you think of the character). Daria, of course, is the uninvolved sardonic onlooker carried to the extreme -- so far, sometimes, that she herself becomes the butt of the joke. This is probably not the place to begin with Daria; too many of the situations in this film depend on knowledge of the characters and of what has gone before -- but for the experienced Daria viewer, or for the newbie willing to take certain things as givens, it's a fitting farewell to the characters and milieu of the series. (A follow-on of Daria and Company in college/later life might be fun. Or, of course, it might be a disaster...) Included are two episodes of the MTV series, "Lucky Strike", in which the teachers go on strike and Daria winds up substitute teaching, and "Boxing Daria", which was the final episode of the last season on MTV, and which examines Daria's relations with her parents and looks back to her childhood to give us a slightly different take on the givens of the sereis. ((Also included is an easter egg featuring an early Daria appearance on "Beavis and Butthead" (she is the cousin of one of them) -- but, since it's "Beavis and Buttheead", i'm not going to tell you how to find it...))

Summary: Get it if you loved the show
Review: The 1st movie, 'Is it Fall Yet?', had the OK To Cry Corral, Quinn getting tutored, and a bunch of well written, funny scenes, whereas 'Is It College Yet?' seems pretty uninspired -- which is to say funny, but not _very_ funny, and without suprises or new 'takes' on the characters. It is, of course, nice to see things wrapped up, which is the whole point of this movie. Basically, I thought this movie would be really, really fun, but it wasn't really, really fun; it was _OK_.
