Summary: Very Good Anime
Review: Truly a masterpiece in its own right regarding design and animation. The story is very interesting, however quite short and could have been longer. It was quite "mind-blowing".

The blending of traditional animation with CG backgrounds and foregrounds are really well done as well as the lighting effects. The shading and grim, dark "areas" add to the "feel" of the anime.

Please note that a running time of about 45 mins. is quite the standard length for most anime.

On a side note, this seems to be a marketing gimmick perhaps to get us to buy more "Blood" products in the future if they decide to release it here. Notice too that the packaging says running time is 83 mins. Misprint or marketing tool?

I heard there are 2 books published and a video game made in Japan (with perhaps another anime coming around the corner?).

P.S. I have heard there are bugs when playing it on the PS2. Some people have reported that there are skipped sequences and it doesn't play smoothly ("very choppy"). This apparently doesn't occur when played on a standard DVD player.

Summary: Thrilling ride
Review: The best anime I've seen since Akira. 45 minutes may be short I admit, but this is well worth the 20 bucks.... The lead character breaks all the rules... and does a great job doing it. The brain trust that went into this film is astounding. The behind the scenes was a nice touch in the special features-- I only hope that there will be more to come

Summary: Awesome...WHERE'S THE REST OF IT?
Review: I'll admit from the start; I'm kind of a sucker for hype. When I hear so many positive things about a new anime, and I read all the great things critics and magazines have to say about it before it comes out, I get excited. And once in a good while, as soon as I see it at my local video store, I'll snatch it off the shelf without a second thought. This was one of those cases. And for once, I didn't regret it. "Blood" is spectacular, and on just about every level. The story, basically about a mysterious young girl who hunts shape-shifting vampires (I know, you've heard this before somewhere...), goes into just enough detail to set the tone but leaves the viewer hungry (or is it...thirsty?) for more by the end. The setting, at Yokota Air Force Base in Japan during the Vietnam war, is dead-on accurate; the buildings, the runway, especially the aircraft, are in immaculate detail. Even the airmen's uniforms match the time period! My hat is off to the background and storyboard teams. I've never seen backgrounds and surroundings look so realistic in an animated film! Speaking of animation, it just doesn't get much better. The animators created an unrivaled blend of 2D and 3D CGI. I've seen such a blend in other anime, but it's difficult to put the two together and make it look natural. This piece of work, though, is flawless. The 2D characters flow perfectly into the backgrounds and CGI surroundings, as if they actually belong there. Being a horror flick, the use of color was a perfect match for the gloomy setting; lots of good use of shadow, dark colors, and tones. The soundtrack fits like a glove, too; the orchestrated music set the moods of the scenes and just amplified their intensity. "Blood" is, in my opinion, pound for pound one of the best anime out there right now. Folks, this is pretty much the future of anime. I highly recommend you grab a piece of it and see it for yourself. As far as the DVD features go, there's a photo gallery (which is kind of lame) and some previews of other Manga titles. The best extra by far, though, is the "making of" featurette. It reveals just how much time, effort, and talent went into this little morsel. I tell you true, the only problem I have with this DVD is that the way the story ended, we're going to have to wait for "Blood: Part 2". And after seeing this, I almost dread how agonizing that's going to be. But buy it anyway. NOW.

Summary: GREATNESS!!!!!......FOR A MOMENT
Review: This film has some of the best looking animation I have ever seen. The background of the subway is so realistic and detailed it looks like they just traced and colored in a subway scene from "Money Train" or something. The film overall is visually amazing ; the airplanes look extremely real , the wide shot of the people on the dance floor look realistic , the contrasts of sunlight and shadow are staggeringly flawless in some scenes and the action is intense. The film flows with the same feel , suspense , and intensity of a grade A American action/adventure film. Also it is rather gorey , creepy , and at times scary.

The problem wih "Blood:The Last Vampire" is that it's 45 minutes long. The film draws you in so much with the action and suspense that when it ends you feel that there should be more. It is like half a roller-coaster ride. It makes you want more action and suspense. You want to know alot more about the main character and the vampire's. Either this was done on purpose to make fans crave for the follow-up or it was a missed opportunity to make a ground breaking anime of deeper dynamics.

No matter the case , this film is ground breaking animation. And with anime evolving to greater and greater heights with the use of C.G.I. you have to feel that there will be an anime that will come along and reach the full plateau that "Blood:The Last Vampire" missed. In terms of the visual , you can hold this film up to "Ghost in the Shell" and "Akira". It is superb cgi/cell animation.

The dvd offers Dolby digital 5:1 surround sound. The audio is mixed with english and japanese dialoge(subtitles provided) , "The Making of Blood" feature , image gallery , trailer to "Blood" , web links and Manga previews.

Summary: The animation is awesome
Review: Blood the Last Vampire was a great movie. The animation was awesome, the plot was ok, and the charaters were pretty cool too. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 was because it was really short. You start the movie then it ends without any notice. But for true anime fans-you will love this movie. The art alone is worth the price

Summary: Excellent - but could be longer
Review: I wonder if the quality of the Region 1 disk is different? The sound and picture quality were excellent and to criticise the animation in any way would be to totally miss the point. This is cutting-edge realistic animation of the highest order. Look at the attention to detail. The lighting effects alone totally blew me away (could you draw this yourself or even imagine where to start)! This is a very atmospheric film spoiled by one thing, the length. I was as surprised as other reviewers when it ended. Maybe it's a cunning ploy to get us to buy the next installment (there should be one). I for one would like to know what happens next; who is this mysterious girl and where do the creatures come from? More please.

Summary: I WANT MORE!!
Review: Yes, yes. Everyone is right. The anime is about 45 minutes long. It feels more like the first chapter of an anime series than a movie. It's still worth buying. The animation is excellent and the whole concept of a female vampire hunter (Saya) who carries a samurai sword makes for a very good story (did you know there's a PlayStation 2 game of it in Japan?). There are many unanswered questions in the movie. Buy it if you want to see a great anime, but be warned that this movie is a big tease. You'll end up wanting more and it looks like this is all we get. All we can do is watch it over and over and over and ...

Summary: My taste for blood is not satiated
Review: The computer graphics and animation in this film were good and I like the idea that a vampire can only be killed by causing them to suddenly lose a large amount of blood, but that isn't enough to keep this movie afloat. The movie is far too short. It's quite slow and it's only 45 minutes long! There is practically no character development. When I saw the credits rolling, I actually thought that credits were appearing halfway through the movie as a artistic decision, or as an intermission sort of thing. I did not expect it to be the end of the movie. Very disappointing.

Summary: Intense!
Review: I saw this movie at a friends house. The film had a chilling vibe, right from the first scene on the subway. The closeup shots of the lead were long and incredibly eerie. It put me in a frame of mind that no other film has. So I commend the EXPERIENCE of the DVD.

Yes it's short and the quality of the audio and video are not the greatest. However! I like it for what it is. It's faults give it character and make it even more bone rattling. One other thing---It's gruesome!

If you collect these kind of movies. BUY IT, and watch it occasionally with your friends when you don't have much time.

Summary: An Anime "Must Have"
Review: This is visually the best anime ever. It combines already superbly drawn anime, real-life images/video, and some really good CGI. There's also a nice combination of dubbing and subtitling. (The subtitling is the easy to read yellow kind, and it doesn't go to fast). I also think (even moreso now than before) that Amazon is selling cut versions of Animes. The warning on the back of the box said there was brief nudity, but I looked intently and there isn't any.

Just like 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within', this movie's best quality is it's visuals. Unlike FF however, this movie was good.
Some say there was no storyline, there was an exellent storyline in my opinion. The movie just didn't get deep enough into it.

Gripes:

1. STUPID Manga Corps. put a preview for the movie right before the feature presentation (Smack!)

2. Big lips on the main character are a little displeasing.

3. Old nurse character is annoying.

(This is my final and biggest gripe, it is the reason I didn't give this movie 5 stars)

4. A lack of completion to the movie.

As with every other anime based on a manga (i believe this is based on a manga), there is a lot to cover, and it is hard for a movie to give the viewer a true sense of knowledge for everything that is happening, this one barely even tries.

At the end of the movie, I know almost nothing about the main character, very little about the vampire-demons, the real setting of the movie only because it is described on the back of the box, and have countless other unawnsered questions. It's probably done like that so you have to buy the manga.

Get this anime for the visuals though, they're amazing. Every true Anime fan will have one of these sitting in their collection, right next to Akira.
