Summary: Absolute snorefest, and WAY too short for the price
Review: "Blood - The Last Vampire" may be very beautiful, ground-breaking animation, but that's about the only good thing it's got going for it. It's a short film - 45 minutes long - and, although the setting (1966, an airbase for staging attacks on Vietnam) is unique, the story isn't. The new girl at school shows up, looks cute in her skirt, and starts attacking vampires. Actually, she is a vampire. Of course, the adults in the film are all idiots, and only this dark, brooding teenager can save the world. Or something like that.

Anyway, that's the juvenile level of plot "Blood" dishes out, which is really just an excuse to have a big fight in a burning building so the animators can show off their nifty computer-generated effects. The problem is, most of the time those effects look very computer-generated, so they are more distracting than they are nifty. If you want to see what subtle rendering can add to a story, check out "Metropolis." Here, it just looks forced (although very, very good). Because the movie lacks anything else - character development, real plot, or any sense of verisimilitude - it's a wasted effort.

The DVD is appropriately well-done, with the old anamorphic widescreen transfer with great picture quality and color. The soundtrack is a fairly flat Dolby Digital, and even during the fight scenes it feels like it's just coming out of your center channel. There's a making-of that's half the length of the film itself, and it's all available at full price for your viewing pleasure!

Blah. Want vampires? Get Vampire Hunter D or its superior sequel Bloodlust. Want great computer animation? Get Metropolis. Want real plot? Get Princess Mononoke. Want characters you care about? Get Grave of the Fireflies. But leave Blood on the shelf - trust me, there's nothing here you want.

It got that extra star for the beautiful, if misplaced, computer animation.

Summary: Great eye candy... and not much else.
Review: The movie was great in theory. It had a plot, great animation, some beatifully designed fight scenes...... But the anime failed as far as character development, and especially character motives, wants, history. The characters were, in the begining, shown in the shadows and ended in the shadows.... Too bad EVERYTHING about the characters were also hidden. Since the characters make the story, this anime falls apart horribly. This anime had GREAT potential, but in falls flat at the end. Its ironic that so much potential was in the end put to waste............. On the bright side, its not bad to be submerged in beatiful eyecandy for slighly over half an hour.

Summary: 2 1/2 - Such an anticlimax!
Review: Blood is a fascinating, beautifully animated short tale with a cold sterile atmosphere and seductive intricate imagery. It builds up a rivoting, mysterious storyline with a strong climax... and then it pretty much ends. I don't know why it's so short but they 'unfinished' story had potential to continue. I was just starting to get sucked into it and when the credits started to roll, I assumed there were two parts. No, there aren't. That's it. Maybe this was an experimental pilot for a planned series or feature film. If not, it's pretty disappointing that it's so short.

Summary: Tasteless and Insipid Blood
Review: Hailed as one of the best animes of the last years, "Blood - The Last Vampire" shows some promise but ends up being terribly disappointing. Yes, the animation techniques are dazzling and somewhat impressive, so there`s an appealing visual style here. Unfortunately, that`s all there really is. The rest is basically an unconvincing and pointless story that presents unexciting action sequences with cardboard characters and little creativity. If this was a pilot to an anime series, I guess it would be decent, yet nothing special overall, but "Blood" is supposedly a movie, and a short one at that. I don`t get the hype and acclaim about this film, given that it`s just another forgettable time-waster. Visually it`s an enjoyable experience, but a (good) movie should be more than some pretty and edgy pictures glued together.

Summary: So-So Flick
Review: First of all, let me say that I'm not a big anime fan. I've watched a few of these films, but I just can't get into this stuff. "Blood" is okay, but it's not that great. There isn't much to work with here other than a few demonic vampires and some explosions. The characters are underdeveloped, the story is weak, and the entire film moves at a snails pace(which is bad since this flick's only about forty-five minutes long). The main character-the lady vampire killer-is never developed well enough to let you understand what makes her tick.

I agree with another reviewer that had this been a pilot for a series, it would work rather well. It leaves many unanswered questions and, as stated before, the characters just aren't developed well enough.

In closing, if you are a huge anime fan, go ahead and buy this. It will not add anything to your collection, but you may want to keep a copy around just in case you find yourself with a little time to kill. If you're just curious about anime, like myself, don't bother with this one. There's nothing convincing contained herein.

Summary: Hmmm...
Review: I'd agree with most of the reviews that it is a TAD bit short for the price, but if you're a fan i don't think u'll mind paying for it. Excellent animation sequences for its time, still looks good now. Plot may be a bit profound, but if you don't think too much it looks simple ;P

Summary: meh.
Review: I liked this movie untill I saw the end. The animation was excellent and the plot was intriguing and easy to follow(a problem I often have with anime). The only problem I found was that the movie seemed to just end at its climax. It was as if the writers just gave up, wrote a bad ending to wrap up and quit. Its a same really, I enjoyed watching but the end just made the movie to short and left a bad taste in my mouth. I would diffenity rent this but don't buy it unless your a anime collector.

Summary: TOO SHORT!...Nice animation though
Review: This was an O-k flick though............IT'S DAMN SHORT!
The story was dull and left things hanging for us to ponder about.
And the main character from my opinion seems a little annoying.
I only went to get this cause it had vampires in it and I love
vamiper/anime stuff.

Leave this title alone and get HELLSING.
Leave this crap at the store that it belongs..........

Summary: Among the worst
Review: This movie is very well animated, in a unique fasion. In that sentence is the whole of this movies goodness. Unintersting storyline, stupid boring main character(also ugly) and short. I don't remember being very impressed by the violence for some reason either, and I do indeed cherish my violence.

This movie is way overated, just as VPHD Bloodlust was, and for the same reason, excellent visuals

Review: I have read all the other customer reviews here for this gem and am forced to add my 2-cents. I am not a professional anime critic, only a novice at best and this film stands in my library of japanese anime as a classic. It is a real blend of horror and action without gratuitous violence. The action is also very cinematic and you forget that it is an animated film due to the fluidity of movement and color. It also is set in the 40's after the U.S. occupied Japan after the war and does a good job of communicating the cultural atmosphere of the time, being set in an American Air Force base. It is rather short for a film, but I believe it is a story that does not need to be stretched out to fit the "2 hour" american film viewing attention span.
