Summary: Spectacular Beginning!
Review: From the first moment, you're thrust into the entire mysticism of the Evangelion series. It hits you like a ton of bricks, and when Disc 1 is over, you're screaming for more and more!

For starters, Anno does a spectacular job with this installment of Evangelion. You're interested in all the characters, from Shinji to Rei to Pen-Pen. Each of them has a story to tell, and over the series, it shows how deep Evangelion reaches into the soul of humkity. I won't say more, except that this disc is but a teaser, and once you start, you can never stop.

Summary: Total Greatness
Review: First of all, Evangelion is pronounced ee-van-Gel-eeon (w/a hard G), not eh-vang-leeon or ee-van-jel-eeon.

Evangelion is a series that, for most, will be Total Greatness from the first episode on, but for some, you have to give it a little more time. Everyone should try this series. Let me give you a little plot info:

The year: 2015. The setting: Tokyo 3.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a series like no other. It's about a 14-year-old boy named Shinji Ikari, a kind of lost soul with no loving parent figure to look up to. As he searches for answers, he comes apon Misato, a very, um, willful woman who takes Shinji to NERV -- the top secret agency where his father works. NERV's purpose is to destroy the Angels, giant beings who invaded Earth 15 years ago. To do this, they use giant mechas called Evas, which are piloted by certain teenagers with special telekinetic powers. The pilots must first sychronize with their mechas, allowing them to move the mecha from inside the cockpit using only telepathy. Shinji, as it turns out, is the "Third Child." He is the one person who can pilot Eva Unit 01, the most powerful of all. Join Shinji as he sorts through his psychological issues and attempts to save the world from the Angels.

You should definitely get this DVD. It is truly GREAT anime, and if you don't like it, then there's probably something wrong with you. So go ahead: buy it!!

Summary: One of the greatest Animes around.
Review: As the title reads, "One of the greatest Animes around." If it were anything different, It would be the best Anime. This is my first real viewing of an Anime. My cousin has it, that's how I know about it, and I soon plan on owning it. I totally love this Anime, my favorite. I can't get enough of it. It shows what kind of Anime collector (freak) I am.

Summary: Intelectual orgasm!!
Review: I can't begin to tell you how deep this story goes in philosophy.
But if you just like the animation & action sequences you got'em They're stylish and mindblowing.(So stop reading here)
This saga is fully rich in mythical & philosophical symbols that touch very sensitive issues as far as politics, science and religion. It even explores & questions some serious psychological
issues of human relationships...But you have to watch the whole saga to find this perspective, which is why I'm buying the whole collection.

Summary: First Eva DVD
Review: Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the best anime's to come out of Japan in a looooong time, if not ever. This first DVD only scratches the surface on the immense depth of plot that this series has. Highly recommended. Five stars!

Summary: Fantastic Beginning...
Review: This is by far one of the best anime series in existence. This thrusts the viewer into a futuristic world where gigantic mecha fight for humanity's survival. Nothing has ever come close to it, and the more you watch the entire series, the more everything makes sense. Once you start, you can never stop.

Summary: Neon Genesis Breaks the Ice
Review: Neon Genesis Evangelion is a breakthrough anime. It combines human emotion with no mercy mecha battles with a taste of no nonsense humor. It is no wonder the very first episode can get people hooked onto this show. I was.

The characters are the root of Evangelion. Shinji Ikari is a reluctant hero, thrust into battle at a crucial point, while all military officials are counting on him to save a remaining piece of Tokyo, Japan. He is the one that shows his weaknesses in the air like dirty laundry. Shinji lives with Misato Katsuragi, who is Shinji's roomate in her apartment. She is soooo funny! ^_^ Then there's Rei Ayanami. For some reason, she's the object of every anime otaku's obsession. She is silent and albino white, entrancing Shinji.

I hope you like Evangelion as much as I do!

Summary: Start to a great series
Review: If your into anime this is a must have, it is the start to an excellent series. It gets very deep towards the end but has some very cool mecha fights and even a little bit of humor along the way.

Summary: Incredibly stunning....
Review: First of all, ignore the review below, as "Steve Y." has absolutley no clue what he is talking about. Every "problem" he has with evangelion is shown to be ridiculous after actually watching the series...Can you judge a series by the first couple episodes of an epic 26 part saga?! NO! Evangelion is personally the best "thing" I have ever witnessed, be it a movie, series, anime, game, book, whatever. There is nothing I have ever experienced that can even compare to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Do yourself a favor, and watch this series. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE....

Summary: Storyline not as good as lead to believe
Review: I decided to buy this DVD after reading a few glowing reviews for the storyline. I loved the story lines of Star Blazers and Robotech as a child and still do as an adult. I was very disappointed with the storyline in this series. The story revolves around a 14-year-old reluctant hero who should be in therapy living with his twenty-something female commander with sexual overtones and a touch of Oedipus thrown in. This seems to cater to boys struggling with puberty. The hero also seems to struggle with a non-existent relationship with a self-centered father that creates a self-esteem problem. Hence the psychological aspect of the story. The bad guys are giant monsters called Angels that show up every few episodes with no agenda other than to stomp neo-Tokyo into the ground. This supplies the action. It reminded me of watching Godzilla films where Godzilla fought a new monster in every film. No one seems to be concerned with why the Angels are attacking. Possibly this is explained as the series goes on. Only children can run the biomechanical robots that have to be plugged in that fight the Angels. Why only children can run the robots isn't quite explained. The video and animation where adequate. I was very impressed with the sound. An episode where it was raining changed tone when the point-of-view changed from outside to inside. It really sounded like you were there. Not something I expected from animation. Overall, I was hoping to get hooked by an interesting storyline. These episodes didn't do it. After reading some of the synopsis of the other episodes I don't think I'll spend the money on the other DVDs unless I can check them out by renting them first.
