Rating: Summary: A Non-Disney Classic Review: This is one of those movies that proves that Disney is not alone in creating animated masterpieces. Sure I grew up with staples such as Bambi, Beauty and tbe Beast, and The Lion King, but I also recollect being hooked on All Dogs Go to Heaven, An American Tail, and The Land Before Time. Don Bluth's films are tragically overlooked. All Dogs Go To Heaven is a movie I still watch and enjoy now that I'm sixteen. It's a story about life and death. And Charlie is a great character because he's like an anti-rolemodel, but by the end, he's learned a lesson and become heaven-worthy. It's a story of redemption and full of heart. Highly recommended for all children. (Some parts may be a little scary for really small children, but parental presence is all that's necessary.)
Rating: Summary: Not for younger kids Review: This movie has absolutely NO appeal for my 3 year old daughter. We got it because she liked the "doggies" on the dvd cover, but she has barely watched 15 minutes of it before she is bored. I have to admit, Mommy doesn't much care for it either, it's just too dark.
Rating: Summary: Terrible movie for youngesters: gambling, smoking and lies Review: This movie shows the youngesters a terrible world where the place in focus is a bar with drinking, smoking, then gambling and dirty lies. The subject is too intense for young viewers.
Rating: Summary: Not a sissy la-la movie. Review: To steal a term from one of my teachers, I have to say that ADGTH is not a 'sissy la-la' movie. I have to admit that, as much as I loved it when I was little, I didn't fully understand the story until I got a little bit older and it all suddenly clicked. That's because the story is really geared towards older people. It's very funny, very cute, with very good animation and music--but it's also deep. It's moving. It's not just a movie that you can watch every other day for laughs because it's one of those movies that transforms you and requires a bit of recharging afterward. I find that it's a very emotional story that engages you and has a number of startlingly poignant moments. This is truly a great non-Disney animated masterpiece.
