Summary: Very disappointing
Review: First, be alerted this is nowhere near the quality of animation or storytelling you would expect after seeing Toy Story 1 and 2. The animation & story are very poor. We (my husband, me & 5 year old) were so disappointed with this video we didn't even finish watching it. I expect more from Disney, even if this was a direct-to-video; I think most people do. Don't waste your time with this one--it seems to be little more than a "commercial" for the future Buzz Lightyear cartoon series which I read will be on TV this fall season. I give it one star only because I couldn't get the rating field (above) to accept zero!

Summary: AWFUL
Review: I feel so angry with Disney for this title. It's scrappy, lacks gloss and has no character. Sure some people here say it has funny jokes, but so do toliet cubical walls occasionally! This film really isn't interesting and my cousins quickly lost interest. These are the same two children who sat without moving through Toy Story 2 in the cinema! To people who try to justify this poor release by saying it's a taster of a to-come cartoon series, I say phooey! That's as daft as saying that the film Jaws had a 75 minute film about a fishpond just to warm the audience to the idea! Animated Toy Story features don't work! It's not what Toy Story is at all about. AWFUL!

Summary: Not the best effort
Review: This is a bit of a cheat as far as Disney titles go. It's direct-to-video, sure - but it is the worst they've done. NOTHING like Toy Story or Toy Story 2 and lacks the usual Disney spirit. It's very violent and I will not let my 3 year old watch it. I think it's only JUST suitable for my 7 year old but why so much shooting and killing? Is this Disney's animated sci-fi Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrels? For goodness sake Disney, get your act together!

Summary: Mixed results
Review: I have mixed feelings about this one. The humor occasionally sparkles in the cartoon, but the plot is weird and not engaging. Many of the jokes are way above a child's comprehension level. While violence is more present than in the TS films, it's generally of the laser shoot-em-up variety than the punching, shooting Batman Beyond type. My 3 year old son happily sits through the TS movies but this one bored him after about half-hour and we haven't watched it since.

In contrast to the TS films, it's a bit loud and obnoxious. In contrast to Saturday morning cartoons, it's well-done but long. If you are unsure, I recommend renting it first, or waiting for the price to come down.

Summary: What an insult to Disney fans!
Review: Why bother? Why take something that's so sucessful in computer animated format and make a cheap (and tacky) spin-off in traditional hand-drawn animation? Is it to wring every last cent out of Toy Story mania? Making a hand-drawn Toy Story feature is like taking an ice sculpture and assuming it will look great if moulded in cement - what I'm trying to say is that just because Toy Story works in CGI, it doesn't mean that it will in another animation medium. Part of the alure of the first two films was how CGI added to the reality and whole atmosphere - this is all lost in this DVD. I really have (for the first time ever) wasted my child's money on this title. We are HUGE Disney fans here but are really let down by this feature. The DVD has little to compensate and why perople can say it's amusing beats me! It's WAY too violent! A HUGE THUMBS DOWN!

Summary: Not as good as "Toy Story"...duh!
Review: While this may not be the best movie to come out of Disney in the last 20 years, it certainly has its merits. There are fun new characters (Booster, Mira, XR, Warp Darkmatter to name a few), a plot that will appeal to kids (and to adults to some degree, although that is clearly not the target audience) and a great new song, sung by William Shattner.

No... it is not as good as "Toy Story 2" (one of the highest grossing pictures in all film history and an instant classic).

But the bottom line is that the "Buzz Lightyear" DVD is not trying to be like "Toy Story" 1 or 2. This movie is about the adventures of the ACTION HERO that inspired the creation of the TOY in "Toy Story".

My wife and I enjoyed it, and my son and daughter loved it.

Summary: Five-and-a-half-year-old boy's review
Review: I think it's a very bad movie. Because too much violence. Zurg was too violent, scary, and bad, but I loved him in Toy Story 2.

Summary: ROTTEN...JUST ROTTEN
Review: This movie is so bad I don't even know where to begin. At first I thought it was just me, but neither my 5 year old or 2 year could stand it either. Look for a lot people unloading this dog on EBAY. It will probably sell a million copies before the word gets out about how bad it is. STAY AWAY FROM THIS!

Summary: Got what I expected!
Review: By looking at the cover and seeing commercials advertising this movie I knew not to expect a whole lot. Obviously this is not the Toy Story quality animation we are used to seeing, nor deserving of any Oscar nominations. What do you exect from a straight-to-video movie?

I rented this movie because my son loved the first two Toy Story movies. He expected Buzz Lightyear and that is what he received. I bought this movie based on his reaction. This movie is definitely aimed towards kids, as it is the version that Andy would watch to become a Buzz Lightyear fan.

As I said, don't expect to much and you won't be disappointed. Keep in mind that is direct to video and its meant to keep the kids occupied not the adult.

Summary: A Good Beginning
Review: Yes, this title is "traditional" animation and not the computer generated animation from the brilliant folks at Pixar. Rather, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is intended as the pilot for the forthcoming weekly animated series appearing on Disney's Saturday lineup.

The story has everything a kid who plays "space ranger" could hope for--lasers, evil robots, funny sidekicks, lasers, spaceships, and MORE LASERS! Parents who think the cartoon is too violent need to get a grip. Only robots are destroyed and the diversity of the Space Ranger corps are positives to Disney's credit. The female characters are particularly strong.

Make no mistake, this is not Toy Story/Toy Story 2, and it's not presented as such. I loved it and hope to see more this fall on Saturday mornings!
