Summary: My second favorite movie, only to be beaten by sport
Review: Oh man, words can't describe how great this movie really is.

The only and I mean ONLY flaw I can find is that this movie should've been Closed Captioned. I'm not of fan of foul language, and this movie accully has a scene named, "Swear Word" some guy blasts everybody's favorite 's' word. And Ultra Magnus uses the 'd' word as well. This was sopposed to be a children's film ya know.

Summary: The Movie - The Cult - The Transformers
Review: This is what the mid-80's were about! TF The Movie directly after the very best 2nd season of the series, followed by a different-style 3rd season.

Some fan related extras and the uncut content movie on this DVD make it valuable!

Summary: Greatest animated movie ever
Review: After 17 years, this is still the greatest animated movie ever.

Summary: 80's cult for every fan of the series!
Review: Even non-fans will be entertained! Great animation quality, full screen format. The DVD-version is a must-have for fans. The interview with Vince DiCola is valuable for hardcore-fans, but a bit boring for the rest I suppose.

Summary: Awsome
Review: I thought this movie was the best animated movie based on a tv series they introduced new charactors and and sadly got rid of the old favorites Unicron is the badest villain ever with a great musical score by Vince Decola and alot of 80's metal this movie is non stop action from start to finish every transformers fan should own this. I only wish the dvd had more special features.

Summary: Less Than Meets The Expectations
Review: I first saw this movie in 1998 or 1999, when my friend, Matt, let me borrow his copy. It was of the standard American home video release. I'm stating right now that I don't own this DVD, so I can't comment on the extra features (such as the Vince DiCola interview and the storyboards, which I'm sure are nice), but I can tell you what's wrong with this DVD. First of all, the movie is in pan & scan. Sunbow has stated that they had located the widescreen print of the movie, so why they didn't release it is beyond me. Second, the movie trailer wasn't included. Third, Stan Bush's music video of "The Touch" wasn't included. Besides these problems, there are problems with the story itself. A lot of Transfans seem to love this movie, but I suspect that it's due to the better-than-TV animation, rather than the plot. There are large plotholes. We never learn what Autobots and Decepticons are. We are given only a very short narrative of the setting. Then we jump straight in, watching lots of battles. This would be confusing to anyone who hasn't seen the TV series. Old characters are killed off (some without even a word), and new characters are introduced in the first few minutes. Adding to all of this confusion, we are never told just who or what Unicron (the giant planet-eating threat) is, why he wants to eat everything in the universe, and why no one has ever heard of a menace that large before. A plot device called the Matrix of Leadership is introduced. It was never seen or mentioned in the TV series before the movie, and now it's suddenly extremely important and the one thing that can defeat Unicron. What is it? We don't know. Why is Unicron vulnerable to it? We don't know. Why is Hot Rod chosen as the new leader of the Autobots? That's right, we don't know. Are you beginning to sense a pattern here? A lot of things are just never explained. In fact, they had to write a five-part episode after the movie to tie up the loose ends. Furthermore, a lot of characters are introduced that just shouldn't have been: Quintessons, Junkions, Sharkticons, Wheelie. This characters should have been saved for the TV series. Instead, they just further confuse the audience. The Autobots wander aimlessly around space, crashing on different planets and recruiting some allies along the way. They are no more prepared to take on Unicron at the end of the movie than they were at the beginning. Yet, Unicron is destroyed, the Autobots (presumably) retake their home planet of Cybertron (without any explanation as to how), and all is well. As you can probably see by now, the movie is a convoluted mess. Yet, somehow, it's a fan favorite. It's also clearly a rip-off of Star Wars. Yes, the movie is uncensored. Spike's swear is intact. Personally, I'm going to hold off on buying this DVD and wait until after Rhino releases the Season 2, Part 2, boxed set. After that, they may release a remastered, widescreen version of the movie with (I hope) more bonus features. If they don't, then I'll get this DVD. My advice to all of you is to wait as well.

Summary: They killed Prime
Review: I saw this movie when I was 10 and was traumatized by how they killed Prime, Star Scream and many of the other characters I'd loved from the series. It was a very poor way to handle the story.

Summary: more than meets the eye
Review: I love this movie I was a huge transformers fan and still is so only those who remember those times can relate best first of all it was bad when they killed prime, the last fight between him and megatron was tight and before that optimus just shot all the decepticons in 30 seconds cool designs I loved the part where unicron changed megatron to galvatron then went and killed starscream he just turned to stone and crumbled. the dinobots were cool hot rod, blurr, kup, the jinkions, the sharkticons, lots of old characters died and new ones came anyway a good film still worth watching.

Summary: Not without its faults, but it holds up well
Review: On a whim, I rented the DVD of this recently. I grew up with the Transformers, and at one point could probably remember every name of every cassette Shockwave and Blaster had. I never saw the movie in the theather, but saw it years later. I knew all of the main points: Prime dies, Megatron gets morphed into the insane Galvatron, Hot Rod becomes Rodiums and the leader.

It's easy to dismiss the movie (And the TV show as well) as simply a means to sell toys to kids. It was more than that, it was an above average TV show with a million boys around the world in love with it. So, like most cartoon hits, it became a movie at the height of its career. As amimation goes, it was a step above the TV show. It looks a little like Heavy Metal in style. It's certainly not up to Anime or Disney quality, but much better than Saturday morning fare. On the other hand, much of the voice acting was well above average. Beyond the celbrity vocies (Lenoard Nimoy, Orson Wells, Eric Idle), the other cast members put enough life into these robots to make it credible. The writing was actually rather good too, and I forgot how many smart-aleck remarks the Autobots made among themselves that peppered the story. The Wreck-Gar character is especally memorable, as he learned most of his English from American TV.

The reason I docked it a little was for the odd way the decided to introduce new characters and dispose of older (read: not selling as well) ones. For years, the Autobots and Decepticons shot at each other and barely got a scratch. In the movie, Megatron blows away 5 Autobots in about 30 seconds just like it was no big deal. Prime's taken worse hits from Megatron and survived, this time it was just a little too much? Also, too much of the attention goes to Autobots that we never saw up until this point: Hot Rod, Arcee, Springer, Kup, Ultra Magnus were never in the TV show until after the movie. So there's less of a connect with them, while we watch the older characters die off or get moved to the background. We're also subjected to the annoying Wheelie and Spike's son Daniel. So in general, we have a movie about characters we didn't really didn't know anything about until now. On the positive, the new characters fir in for the most part. Kup especally is great in his old grump mode, where every battle reminds him of another one.

Overall, this is a fun movie for children of the 80s. Trying to show new people the Transformers may leave them confused. But it holds up for the most part and is good for the occasional nostalgia trip.
