Summary: Nice for kids, average DVD
Review: The very successful animation series has got his first movie. Ithink this movie is great for kids and almost all the kids will loveit. But besides children there are very few people who like Pokemon and will appreciate this movie. The animation of the movie is the same as in the series and it's some sort of a long edition of a pokemon episode. And it doesn't have a real story so you must really like and know the Pokemon characters to understand and like the movie. And the DVD is very average, especially the picture and sound quality isn't that good. The extra features on this disc are pretty good and are one of the better things on this DVD. And there is also a trailer on it with the second pokemon movie that will come out next summer. But the reason I gave 3 stars is that kids will love it and will watch it many times. It's also nice for other people who like pokemon, but that are probably the only people who will like this movie and so the DVD.

Review: ...uh, now focus goes to Mewtwo, a clone of the super-rare Pokemon Mew, and he wants to take over the world. And our heroes have to stop him. Pokemon the Movie 2000 hopefully has to be better than this stuff, but who wants to catch them all, anyway?

Summary: I'm glad the Pokemon craze is dying down.
Review: And it's about time. This movie is about Mewtwo, a clone of the super-rare Pokemon Mew (she's our favorite!), and he wants to take over the world. It's just like an episode of the TV series in two parts, or maybe three. First, you've got this "Pikachu's Vacation" with Marril and Snubble, two out of 99 new Pokebrats, and the apparently short film itself. Two new Pokemon movies are going to be released within the next two or three years. But because the Pokemon craze is dying out once and for all, those movies may not follow in the wake of the success of this one.

Summary: Very good, but not the best. Could have been better.
Review: Pokemon: The First Movie got a pretty good start for their first theatrical release. But in my opinion, I think that a few improvements could be made. The special effects really surprised me. There wasn't very much of them, but there was some. Still, it was very good, but not the best. An overall 4 stars.

Summary: Really boring
Review: My brother has this movie, and at first I liked it. But soon after, I got sick of it. I mean, it's like any other movie: Something or someone trying to have world domination just because some Pokemon thinks that the human race is evil. Puh-lease! The only thing I like about it is Mew, but the Pokemon don't even use their powers when their fighting like they do in Pokemon battles. And they don't even know why they're fighting! It's like being racist. And they're trying to teach kids a "valuable" lesson, don't fight. We hear that from everyone quite enough. Besides, Pokemon are a bad influence on kids. Some kids are so desperate they STEAL Pokemon cards. The movie's trying to get you to spend your money on some movie. It's just a movie. You're bound to see it some other time. And if you don't, don't spend your money on some dumb movie.

Summary: Extremely wonderful, worth seeing again and again
Review: I am an obsessive (in a tiny sense) Pokemon fan, before I even saw this movie I knew I'd like it, and I was right, it was wonderful. The ending seem was a defienent heart-tugger (for all you emotional, Pokemon obsessives out there). And I really enjoyed how the tears of the Pokemon scene was choregraphed (if you can call it that... maybe I should say... um, drawn.) I'd say it's better than any other animated movie I have seen this year and I am eagerly awaiting the release of Pokemon The Movie 2000. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves Pokemon.

Summary: Pokemon, you're crazy-mon
Review: I just saw this smorgesborg of a film feast, and let me tell you, I was blown away. The animation was great, the cast was great (my favorite was Mew), darn-tootin everything was great. I've been an avid pokemon fan from the beginning, and it seems to be getting only better. Although the sound quality with which the recording was made was very poor, it was still great to look at all the funny pokemon. My only complaints were the appearance of pokemon, in that not all of them were in the movie, and that the ending was kind of corny and directed toward feuding children. But I can't wait for Pokemon 2000. I'm going to see it and love it and even write a review on it. Agricola signing out. Over.

Summary: Wish the DVD version ...
Review: I wish the DVD version was in letter box! I didn't get to see the movie when it was in general release. I'm sure I'm missing some action on the side (as always occurs with a movie going to the small screen). Part of the idea of DVD is widescreen. I was hoping to buy a copy but to get me to spend money means providing a widescreen version.

Summary: Pleasent, at least
Review: I saw this movie, expecting pretty much the classic Pokemon formula with a darker and more dramatic tone. I was completely suprised when I saw Pikachu's Vacation, which was a quite humorous little starter before the actual feature. I remember laughing hard in the scenes where the Pokemon try to cheer up Togepi. Then the feature came. It started off with a very dark and unusual tone, similiar to a Don Bluth movie. Then we saw the main characters and when the Title music kicked off, I thought I had a wonderful movie in front of me. To say the truth I wasn't very disappointed. Despite the odd and bad songs that popped up once in a while, the truly unintelligent ending and the fully corny scenes, like Ash reviving with the tears of the Pokemon (A concept not explained enough) or the bad Pikachu slapping ours, while the latter just stands, the movie is good. Finally the clone Pikachu starts crying and falls into our ones arms. Besides that it's the constant moral teachings the movie simply sticks into our eye. The ending though is what almost killed the picture. Mewtwo's redemption is a "rudimentery failure of story-telling" as a fellow Newsweek critic would say, while Ash should have stayed dead. Unfortunatly the producers of this movie went on the same road as Disney's Mulan, rendering it unemotional, despite the crying of all Pokemon's tempts you to shed tears. All this move teaches children is that it's bad to fight (They want kids to know that BADLY, I guess) and that no sacrifice is given in victory. It seems that the producers have a too optimistic view of the world as few victories are won without sacrifices. Yet despite all these faults, Pokemon succeeds to pull you for another go. Perhaps it's exactly that what pulls us: The corniness. I recommend this movie to pretty much everyone except for those who look at animations as "kiddy-stuff". In my opinion such people can never critically review a movie. Oh well. Just watch this movie and see what Pokemon is about: Some fun and alot of differant creatures. It's a good go. Darth Baney
