Summary: THE best Halloween cartoon ever made!
Review: "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is a classic that never grows old! Charlie Brown, Sally, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang gear up for another Halloween full of adventure and "tricks or treats." Oh, lets not forget the infamous football kick. As "tricks or treats" go, Lucy, Violet, & Pigpen rack up and of course, poor 'ole Charles gets nothing but a bag of rocks. Sally, consumed by her love for Linus, decides to skip "tricks or treats" and sit out in the punkin' patch w/ him to catch a glimpse of the Great Pumpkin. Snoopy, a World War 1 flying ace out on his dawn patrol, ensues the Red Barron to shoot him down. After the trick or treating, it's time for the Halloween party. In the end, Sally is furious and Linus is left in disbelief as another Halloween passes by without a visit from the GP. Lucy awakes in the wee hours of the morning to find her "blockhead brother" shivering and asleep in the patch. As any big sister would do, she brings Linus in and puts him to bed. This 1966 Charles Shultz phenomenon is so enjoyable, I can't hardly wait for Fall each year so I can pull it out. My brother and I grew up watching this every year. Call me a grown-up kid, but it gives me such a warm, cozy feeling inside. Brings back those cherished memories of being a child and the excitment that Halloween always brought. I can't wait until my nephew is old enough to discover "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." Another wonderful joy is the music of Vince Guaradli. As with all the Peanuts cartoons, he composed and performed all of the musical scores. The world of jazz is opened to all who listen and watch. "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is one of those simple little joys in life, as are "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas." If you don't own them, get them. I don't know how anyone could be disappointed! I just love it!

Summary: Embarrassed!!!
Review: Opps, I am so embarrassed, but it was worth it. That was my thoughts when I realized that I spent my entire lunch period watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." You see I am a black male, 37 years old and an 8th Grade middle school teacher. When it was announced that there would be a showing during my lunch period in the school's library, I immediately grabbed my lunch and sat amist 20 children, hushed them and we ENJOYED. Thanks Mr. Schultz for years of memory and laughter.

Summary: STILL A HOLIDAY CLASSIC!!!
Review: Hard to believe that this Halloween classic is nearly 40 years. i still enjoy watching it almost as much as I did as a kid in the 1960's and 1970's.
It bums me out that Charlie Brown isn't as popular among children today as it was to my generation but I'm grateful that i can count on seeing this along with "A Charlie Brown Christmas" every year.
Of course it's our favorite antics of the peanuts gang...going out trick-or-treating and then going to a Halloween party later. it still makes me laugh whenever Charlie Brown says "I got a Rock!"
And of course there's Lucy flying into a panic when kissed by Snoopy and Linus spneding the night in a Pumpkin Patch, awaiting the arrival of the Great Pumpkin to bring him presents.
Dated? Oh..perhaps...but at the same time Charlie Brown is also timeless which is why this still is shown every year while other holiday specials have long been forgotten.

Summary: Dated, Yet Still Tons of Fun; A True Classic!
Review: Yes, you read correctly: four stars. Not five. Why, might you ask? Am I crazy? No, I am not. At least I don't think I am :) I am a huge fan of Peanuts. Every year, I look forward to the holiday specials on television. IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN is one of them. Yet, I must admit: much like A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING and IT'S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN, this show is kind of dated. I do still love it -- the characters and classic Peanuts gags we have all come to cherish. But truth be told, the animation in these earlier specials is sort of crude and the timing between a lot of the dialogue is very very very offbeat. So much so that it can actually get boring at times. Yet I still love them. There is just something about these shows that we can all relate to again and again. Yes, the later films, tv shows and specials are all better drawn, and the timing is right on the dot; and some have a much smoother feel. But these, I think, contain a certain nostalgic feeling. And that's why they are "classics."

Summary: Still Great All These Decades Later!
Review: What's not to like about this treasured Halloween "Peanuts" tale? There's the fabulous piano music score. ... Linus and his blanket keeping watch in the nearby pumpkin patch, awaiting the infamous "Great Pumpkin". ... Sally getting gypped out of "Tricks or Treats". ... Snoopy dueling the Red Baron atop his doghouse. ... And, of course, the hilarity (and sadness at the same time) of watching Charlie Brown accumulate a bagful of rocks on Halloween Night. These indelible set-pieces make up one of the most endearing, and timeless, holiday classics ever broadcast on television. "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", first telecast way back in 1966, will forever be a holiday favorite...whether it be on broadcast TV (remember the original TV commercials for Coca-Cola, McDonald's, and Dolly Madison Cakes?), VHS Video, or DVD. Now ... if only some kindly neighbor could just toss a Snicker's Bar (or maybe even a fresh Dolly Madison Cupcake) into Charlie Brown's bag, I think we'd all feel better. :-)

Review: After the Emmy-award-winning "A Charlie Brown Christmas", Charles Schulz brought another holiday to life with Peanuts fun and amazing real-world accuracy. Somehow none of what makes Halloween great are lacking in these thirty minutes--a pile of leaves to run into, costumes to wear, and treats to get. And who can forget Lucy and her apple-bobbing experience? Of course the real appeal is waiting with Linus in the pumpkin patch, even after a certains girl's smitten grows into disdain, and hoping the Great Pumpkin arrives. Some have waited with Linus each year since this presentation first appeared in 1966!
