Summary: I Need More Now!
Review: I received my copy of the DVD today and I watched it immediately. I need more now! This series is absolutely amazing. I never saw the series on TV but since the reviews here seemed positive and I enjoyed the movie I thought why not. I took a chance and purcased it on pre-order. I don't regret that decision one bit. The only problem I have is that, like all good things, the DVD had to end. Like I said, I need more. I hope more episodes are released soon. Does anyone know if new episodes are airing on TV?

Summary: ROUGHNECKS HO!
Review: I have to agree that the sound & video on this DVD are pretty nice, but I dont like the 'motion-blur' effect that they used. I dont think Ive ever noticed this effect while watching it on TV. I find it to be very distracting, and looks more like a digital transfer flaw than a 'video effect'.

I also wonder when video companies will ever realize that most fans would like to see all of the 'episodes' rather than a 'feature film' version comprised of edited together episodes.

The same thing happened when Beast Wars was released on VHS, but thankfully, the Beast Wars: Classic Episodes DVD w/ bonus unrealeased episodes came out the same day as this Roughnecks DVD. Oddly though, I cant find it listed on amazon.com anywhere.

Summary: A welcomed DVD !
Review: Here's a series that was so hard to find when it aired that only the most hard core fans were able to find it but Sony has really done everyone a service by releasing this DVD!

The video transfer is EXCELLENT. You can really see the work that went into creating this totally computer generated animated series.

The sound transfer is equally great and this DVD offers more language options then I think I've ever seen on any other DVD let alone one from a television series.

Highly recommended to any fan, any animation fan and especially any fan of CG animation.

Let's hope they continue releasing the series on DVD!

Summary: It Shouldn't Be This Way!!! What went wrong???
Review: I believe this movie has a very huge, strong and loyal followers, just like the fans of X-files and Survivor. This movie is unique and exciting in it own ways. As other reviews suggested, it is TRULY under-rated movie of all time!!! This movie should win numerous awards such as Best Original "Genre" for being totally out of this world. I'm so into Starship Troopers that I bought 2 DVDs afraid that one might get spoilt and I can't get a replacement... what should I say to convince all of you out there that it's worth it at any price.

Summary: SIMPLY AMAZING!
Review: As a Sci-Fi lover you get use to making excuses for your favorite shows! Some are easier to explain than others. Try explaining, as a thirty year old professional, that you must be home in time to watch a cartoon! Of course, to label this as a cartoon is somewhat of an insult. The depth of emotion and character development are awe inspiring. You come to know and care about each of these soldiers (some more than others). This is still an action program and keeps you on the edge of your seat. What could be more important than saving the earth?

Summary: Roughnecks - the last best hope for SF animation
Review: Roughnecks: Starship Trooper Chronicles can be described in so many ways; underappreciated, underpromoted and trapped in the ghetto of early morning TV. Thankfully, it can also be called revolutionary, daring, visually stunning, dynamic, moving, epic and intelligent. During its run on TV it recieved little attention due to its label as a "kiddie cartoon" and its awful timeslot. However, those that did pay attention to it realised they were watching something very special; an animated show with appeal for younger viewers, but that did not talk down to them or dilute the stories in any way. The characters of Roughnecks are very human, men and women who grow and develop as the series moves on and they face and defeat the challenges of living life during war-time. Instead of the gung-ho mockery of the movie, Roughnecks has a frequently somber tone, interspersed with high-octane action and not a little drama. It's brilliant and engrossing stuff, and your DVD or video tape will get plenty of wear and tear.

One can't review the series without mentioning the incredible computer animation. Without a doubt the work done on Roughnecks has blazed a trail for the animators of the future to follow. The visual designs are brilliantly inventive, and the animation work is remarkably realistic. Of particular note are the characters faces, beautifully crafted works of art capable of silently displaying the most complex of emotions. They are the key to the heart of this show, which amidst all the flashes and bangs retains a warmth and humanity lacking from much of todays childrens fare.

Fans of the original Heinlein novel will be pleased to note that the eponymous troopers wear powered armour, though the characterisations and bugs still take their cue from the recent movie (no bad thing in my opinion). Concerned parents will be happy to note that though there is on-screen violence, it is all aimed where it should be, at the bugs.

So, give your eyes, ears and mind a treat and pick up Roughnecks: Starship Trooper Chronicles. You won't regret it.

Roughnecks Ho!

Summary: Starship Troopers in 3D Animation
Review: This series appeared on the Sci-Fi channel at five AM in the morning...missed it, most people did! Too bad, 3D animation of this quality has not been seen by the general public. All the charactors from "Starship Troopers" the movie appear in this series, often using the same actors as voice talent. The style of 3D animation is unique, providing a dark, near photo-realistic appearence. Picking up where the movie left off, the bugs fight an aggressive war against humanity, finally reaching our solar system. The troopers are better equipped, but still outmanned. We follow one small marine detachment as chronicled by a soldier/news reporter. The bugs are using DNA techniques to create a variety of soldier adaptations such as fast swimming submarine insects, flying spear shooters, giant spider tree dwellers as well as many others. If the Starship Troopers cannot stop the bug advance, the invaders will reach Earth and as one of the ESP equipped troopers informs as...will not stop until mankind has been destroyed. May be too violent for some, but my four year old loves it!

Summary: Awesome
Review: I have been an amateur comic artist for years watching animation mature and evolve my entire life (40+ years choke). It is true to the original Robert Heinlien store where it counts - the esprit d'corps and ethos of the military. This series is the most under-rated, under-PROMOTED, and sadly underwatched animated SCI-FI series in history. It is quiet literally one of the best SCI-FI series yet, easily upthere with Star Trek, Babylon 5, ... The DVD will no doubt be a collectors item.

Summary: The best show there is
Review: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles, in my opinion, is the best show out there. It combines action, drama, romance, and comedy to make a well rounded program for people of all ages. The story focuses on a mobile infantry squad called "Razak's Roughnecks" and their lives fighting in the war against the bugs. This DVD (or video) is great for people who enjoy sci-fi, CGI (computer generating imagery), and all-around good TV. I'd recommend it to anyone.
