Summary: A Must-See
Review: I saw Fantasia 2000 in a non-IMAX theater and it was still a breathtaking performance. It didn't enchant me quite as much as the 1940 original, but that's only because I'm a more detached adult, not a child as when I saw the original in a re-release.Seven of the eight segments are new. The first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony is entirely an abstract piece of swirling colors. The second piece, set to Respighi's "The Pines of Rome," uses concrete images in a non-concrete way. I won't tell you what, but it's as far as possible from pines and Rome! There follow two longish pieces: "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" is a H.C. Andersen fairy tale set to a Shostakovich concerto and (my favorite) Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" takes us through a day in 1930's New York where all the characters look like caricatures out of Hirschfeld. There's a short blow-off piece based on "The Carnival of the Animals" that asks the musical question, "What happens when you give a yo-yo to a bunch of flamingos?" The vintage piece included here is "The Sorcerer's Apprecentice" with Mickey Mouse, and I'm glad they put it in. That's followed by the story of Noah's Ark with Donald and Daisy Duck (!) set to Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" and finally Stravinsky's "Firebird" which is almost, but not quite, a literal interpretation. The movie is quite short, eighty minutes or so, but it was enormously entertaining. Just as the original Fantasia, it had a mix of abstract, pictorial and story-telling animation, and the classical music was about half very familiar and half not-so-familiar. I'm only sorry the Disney people didn't haul out Fantasia every 20 years or so (1960, 1980) and update it. Also, some of the sequences were introduced by people like Steve Martin and Penn and Teller--if it's another forty years 'til the next Fantasia, will anyone remember them?

Summary: Now THAT was a great experience (READ THIS)
Review: A few years ago, I discovered the film "Fantasia" and I became a lover of it. On 3rd January, during a trip to Orlando, FLORIDA, I went to see "Fantasia 2000" in an Imax theater. I WAS COMPLETELY DAZZLED BY IT ! (if I could, I would put 6 or even 7 stars up there). The movie was WAY BETTER than what I expected. My only regret is that the film only lasts for 90 minutes, but it does not matter at all. My favourite pieces of music in the film are : Beethoven's "Symphony n°5" (an intstant familiarity, since I love that piece of music, and a very good start with the movie), Respighi's "Pines of Rome" (THE breath-taking sequence of the whole film, an extraordinary piece), Saint-säens' "The carnival of the animals" (the funniest sequence and a beautiful melody), Dukas' "The sorcerer's apprentice" (A classic. Everybody loves it, just like I do. It was really something seeing it on an Imax screen. Mickey Mouse is back) and Elgar's "Pomp & Circumstance" (The 2nd most breath-taking piece of music of the movie. The music was extremely magistic and what a good idea to have chosen it, whith all its reputation. Donald Duck has his best role in his whole career, now). As for the others, they are great too, don't worry ! I went to see it again in Paris and will see it once or twice more when it will be released in normal theaters, with my best friends. To conclude : you are strongly advised to go and see it with friends and family, you will all love it. Go ahead and enjoy...

Summary: A Rip Off
Review: First of all, if I'm paying over 10 dollars for a movie ticket I want to be in there at least 90 minutes. This film (with previews, etc) is BARELY over an hour. The original was close to being over 2 hours long. Also, there was no magic at work here, just computers. What ever happened to the days of honest to goodness drawings? Its a disgrace to a once glorious animation studio (who really hasn't put out a decent film worthy of the Disney name in over 30 years.) This was just a computerized re-hashing of the Fantasia name, done with minimal artistic effort (only 45 minutes of new material, hardly backbreaking animation work here...thats about as long as your average Saturday morning cartoon show) to put more money in Michael Eisner's pocket. Even the Sorcerer's Apprentice wasnt enjoyable...it was so grainy and choppy on the large IMAX screen. I went in with high hopes and came out robbed of 25 dollars. Dont waste your time on this horrible film.

Review: This movie was an awesome remake of the first fantasia. I am 15 and I loved hearing Bethoven and Gershwin in one performance, and the bursting graphics keep your attention through the whole film. Take your friends and family to see it!

Summary: Breathtaking!
Review: This is the first IMAX movie I saw, and I was not disapointed. All the music was great, and the animation was so nicly done. The only complaint I have is that they corrupted "The Sorcerer's Apprentace." You'll see what I mean when you see it. I lot better than the first. Pretty much all the segments have a point to them. So what are you waiting for? Catch it in the IMAX before it's to late.

Summary: Fantasia 2000
Review: My daughter at age 22 and myself, age 49 went to see this at the I-Max theater in Louisville. Once again it was great to see a classic Disney Movie. When you think they can't out do themselves along comes another surprise of good music, outstanding animation and just enough humor thrown in to make it interesting for all age groups. Thankyou to all who had a hand in this fine production.

Review: Wow, another Disney's masterpiece which opens a new gate for the young ones to classical music, I loved every music segment this film has, and please, release it on DVD!!! And also, please make a sequel, but for gosh sake don't call it Fantasia 3000!!!

Summary: An Incredible IMAX Experience!
Review: Amazing combination of music and animation! My favorite piece was "The Pines of Rome" because whales hold a special place in my heart. I am glad the disney animators choose whales for this piece. They really captured the spirit of whales. A film not to be missed.

Summary: Wow!! So Many Words To Express What I Think!!
Review: At first I kind of thought it was annoying. 'Why do they always have to copy somthing that is such a beautiful thing?' But then I realized, that they did'nt push a side the old Fantasia, but they put it right infront of them and said: We have to be led by this. The goal was be as good as the first one was. And I must say: They actualy got there. They had a wonderful combination of diffarent styles of music, with diffarent types of graphics. Which what made it a wonderful thing to watch. Its just amazing. The people who worked on this movie are really really talented. It is very recommended, and worth watching.
