Summary: proof that Roy E. Disney should be CEO of Disney!
Review: ...after seeing this wonderful compilation of absolutely brilliant animation & music I simply couldn't believe Michael Eisner was opposed to the idea of making FANTASIA 2000! It's far superior to some of the studio's more recent animated efforts. I suppose Eisner disapproved because F2K isn't the proper movie to push the sale of toys and happy meals! I remove my hat and applaud the true heart & soul of the Walt Disney corporation today: Roy E. Disney. The final sequence, 'the firebird suite', is simply a masterpiece...!

Summary: Wonderful match for animation and classical music
Review: After decades of waiting, Walt Disney finally published the first sequel to this title. Supporters for Fantasia has waited too long already. With the enhancement of graphical and computer technique, Fantasia 2000 is a good mix of high level animation and classical music.Same as the last one, Fantasia 2000 was divided into segments of musical production with introductions slipping in between. Nonetheless, what we waited for was the actual animation. The Pines of Rome is a surprise as it was originally a picturesque symphonic poem of Reshpigi depicting the glory and beauty of different pine trees in the city. The whale movements in the artic area does provide a very good alternative for the music and the music and the animation were blended together so nicely that if you don't know the title of the music, you would thought that the music was built for the picture. Another similar section is the Rhapsody in Blue, with all the New Yorkers running up and down the screen, looking for their dreams. Nonetheless, Rhapsody in Blue was itself a good match for live in metropolitans, so it is not as surprising and imaginative as the Pines of Rome. The carnivals of animals is cute too, short but carefully plotted. Mickey Mouse appeared again in his old fashion, so no surprises but just reminders of the past. Donald Duck made his debut in the 2000 with Daisy. The concept of the Noah's Ark is really cool, though the love between them were overtaken by the superb animals and visual effects around them. For the Fire Bird suite, the picture was as Stravinsky as the music, depicting the resemblance of graphical music feeling for both, though the construction look somewhat similar with the Night on the Bare Mountain in the first Fantasia. All in all, Disney once again proved that they are the ruler of the animation kingdom in the western world, no matter how their opponents tried, the thoughts and feelings are no match with them.

Summary: An Instant Classic
Review: I saw this movie at the IMAX theater in Orlando, Florida and since that moment fell in love with it. The animation is perfect and the music is great. I never thougt that they could do something better than the original Fantasia, but they did. Perhaps the best segment is the Pomp and Circumstance with Donald Duck and Daisy. It is great to see Donald in such a dramatic and funny role. I will definitely buy this movie as a part of my DVD collection.

Summary: Has anyone had enough of Leonard Maltin's negativity?
Review: I am usually not on of those people that is harsh on critics. usually they do what i consider a decent job of enlightening the viewer or listener to what may be expected from a particular piece of art. Now, of course the arts are something vague and open to personal opinion, and personal taste. But something tells me that Leonard Maltin just likes to dislike. Instead of reviewing something objectively, he seems to get off on putting things down and finding fault with them. Throughout my life, I have watched him put down virtually every film that I, and most people I have met, enjoy very much. Such is the case with Fantasia 2000. Here was a wonderful film, almost flawless in every way, and yet he puts it down. Well, I've had enough. Just what does it take to become a critic anyway? Jeez, sign me up for that job. To just sit there and watch movies all day, and then say what i think of them. Well, I say to Leonard, go make your own darn movies if you think so many films have flaws. As far as I'm concerned, Fantasia 2000 is a wonderful film, and I don't think for a minute that the "novelty" of music and film has worn off. In fact, I feel it is quite the contrary, especially here in the digital age. Just what does he mean by novelty, anyway? I never considered it a "novelty". Jeez, if that's how he feels, I guess dance is a novelty, too? I know this was supposed to be a review of Fantasia, but I would love to see more movie viewers unite. Let's get rid of Leonard Maltin and his negative BS. Thank you.

Summary: Majestic
Review: I was fortunate enough to see this at an IMAX theater. It was an amazing experience, to be surrounded by such wondrous music and imagery. The animation is of the highest quality, seamlessly blending modern and older styles. It will be interesting to see how the film plays out on a more intimate screen. Although some of the pieces stand out more than others, they all had charm. " The Pines of Rome" is the most popular segment, featuring lush computer animation of blue whales soaring through the arctic ice until they take off into the sky. Disney really did a job on this one, with just enough of a story to balance out the imagery. Clearly borrowing from the art of Charles Vess, "Firebird Suite" is a pretty fairy piece with a bit of fire and danger. "Rhapsody in Blue" is as close to perfect as you need to get, blending a great Gershwin tune with Al Hersfield's familiar style. And of course, one can never get enough yo-yoing flamingos. My personal favorite is "Pomp and Circumstance," as it made me hear a piece of music, and not just the background track to graduation ceremonies. It really took me by surprise, and this is always a good thing. I also really enjoyed the participation of Donald Duck, who is usually my least favorite Disney character. It is a very heart warming segment.

Summary: Fantasmic!
Review: I am a longtime fan of Disney and his art. The original Fantasia was a triumph way ahead of its time. I had serious doubts that such a visual masterpiece could ever be duplicated or surpassed - I was wrong. Fantasia 2000 has captured the spirit of the original movie and has carried on Walt's original concept of "allowing the music to create pictures in the mind". Although long overdue - this movie was worth the wait.

Review: Forget the dismissive reviews above... this film is a masterpiece. Definitely the most impressive thing out of Disney in years and it proves that they still 'have it', if they're allowed to run wild. The animation is amazing and the musical choices are appropriate. Seeing it on TV won't have the impact of IMAX, but I can't wait to get my hands on this disc...

Summary: Extremely disappointing
Review: I adore the original Fantasia and was eagerly awaiting Fantasia 2000. There were only 3 segments of the release worth seeing - the whales in "The Pines of Rome, the flamingos, and the spectacular "Rite of Spring". While the Gershwin piece is well done, it just doesn't fit the theme of "fantasy" I associate with Fantasia. There is even 1 piece that looks as if a 2-yr old did the animation! Not worth seeing if you loved the original. For those who haven't seen Fantasia, it may not be as disappointing.

Summary: A True classic for any Disney Animation Fan.
Review: This Musical masterpiece is a true classic and a worthy sucessor to the Original in 1940. What was so touching was both the musical selection and animation sequences. The blue whale sequence was so uplifting, I had to see it twice. Pomp and circumstance with Donald and Daisy was so thrilling for me being a Christian and having Disney do a revision of the Noah and the great flood that detroyed all of creation except for those God chose to save via the Ark. The other segments were so comical and heartwarming. (Weep) You just gotta see this one.

Summary: Fantasia 2000 is Fantastic 2000!
Review: Increditble, magnificient, classic Disney--need I say more, I've seen it 3 times now, twice at IMAX (I hope they re-release it to IMAX again) and now once in a regular showing, which was almost as breathtaking. This is the first review I have ever written--but this is just too good a movie to pass on. I have seen the original which was wonderful too, but Fantasia 2000 is just that, an updated version without losing the magic of the first. Go, enjoy and be sure to buy it when it comes out on video, you will NOT be disappointed.
