Summary: Passafist Reviews Finding Nemo
Review: In the age-old battle between what's important in film, plot or character? I'm convinced character is king. Nothing makes this idea truer than a film like Pixar's FINDING NEMO. A delightful new animated comedy from those guys that brought you Toy Story.

Sure there's a plot; it's about a father fish searching for his son fish. Many films operate on this premise. In fact even PIXAR's TOY STORY 2, borrows this premise. (For those who don't know TOY STORY 2's main plot is about a toy being stolen by evil toy man, and how his friends try to save him.) But like the above film FINDING NEMO is really about the colorful characters our hero encounters.

Albert Brooks (The Muse) voices and is Marlin. His performance could be compared to Woody Allen, who voiced himself in the film ANTZ. Like Allen this film plays with his film persona, his neurotic tendencies. The minute you see him you buy it. If Albert Brooks were a Clown Fish this is exactly how he'd look and act.

Ellen Degeneres (Mr. Wrong) voices Dory, and for once she's funny. (Yes, Ellen when you drop the gay jokes and just act funny, you actually have a shot at being entertaining.) She has some really great sequences in this film; my favorite was her talking to a blue whale. Dory also has some short-term memory loss. I kept thinking to myself, so if Memento was comedy about fish, this is probably what it would look like.

My favorite performance is William Dafoe (Auto-Focus) as Gill. I liked how the animators used Dafoe's face as the model for Gill's deformity. The details are astounding. His performance is electric. He plays the leader of the fish tank with such power, I wished he was my leader. But Alas, I am not a computer-animated fish. Oh well.

The film looks amazing. Directors Andrew Stanton (A Bug's Life) and Lee Unkrich (Monster's Inc) do an amazing job of creating a world under the sea. If you allow yourself the time to immerse yourself in it, you'll be transformed. It's some of the best digitally rendered computer animation I've ever seen. It exists in realm somewhere between what's real and what's pure fantasy. That's the kind of place all computer-animated worlds should lay.

So here it is a great film. A film that fills a paper-thin plot with characters you laugh with, cry with, and want to be with. There are vegetarian sharks, lobsters with New England accents, and California surfer turtles, if any of this sounds interesting this is the kind of film for you.

So Swim, don't walk to see'.FINDING NEMO

Summary: Disney/Pixtar Do it Again!!!
Review: I took my 3 year old son to see this and it was such a great movie!! Disney/Pixtar really make movies that are enjoyable for the parents as well. There is adult humor. At times only the adults were laughing in the theater. There were some "dark and scary" scenes in the ocean that scared my son, but overall we both enjoyed it and would see it again.

Summary: BEST PIXAR
Review: As delightful as all of the Disney/Pixar films have been, none has had, for me, the same intense resonance and mysterious excitement of Finding Nemo. The undersea world is beyond imaginative; it has a character all its own. Albert Brooks and Ellen Degeneres deserve Oscars for their character work; their evolving friendship is one of the most memorable relationships in a movie filled with them. Each new vista, new character and new situation provides new thrills, new adventure and new suspense. It's the best movie of the year, and a classic for all time -- it has everything you could ever want in a movie, and more. Prepare to be surprised, and enchanted.

Summary: Can't they make an "clean version"?
Review: I enjoyed this film, though I also thought it was a little too harrowing and scary, particularly for smaller children. I went with a friend's six-year old & the poor kid was shaking by the end of the film... The "Bambi" moment (death of parent) comes pretty early on, and the script doesn't relent from there on... it's a big, scary rollercoaster ride from start to finish, and though there are some very funny moments, the humor seems to be something that's happening well beyond the scope of the under-11 crowd. I get why the film does what it does, but it also seems to me that studios producing all-digital animation like this, that they know every kid on the planet is gonna wanna see and that they're building from scratch, might consider making a "G" rated cut as well, so that the little tykes can see the Big Movie without being traumatized. That being said, there are some great gags in here, and even though the sharks take a fade way too soon, the seagulls more than make up for it. Stick around for the closing credits, too... they are the most lighthearted moments in the whole film!

Summary: A Fish Movie...... by FilmBoy
Review: Two clownfish have a bunch of babies, but only one is left because a fish ate almost all the babies and the mom (no details). The dad (Marlon) names it Nemo and is very protective of him because he doesn't want to lose another part of his family, but scuba divers come and capture Nemo. The dad races after the boat and loses it. He asks everybody if they have seen a boat. A blue fish whose name is Dory (who's also VERY forgetful and funny) says she has seen a boat. Marlon follows her, but she forgets what he wanted. They find the goggles of the guy who captured Nemo. It says something on the back. Dory reads it (it'll help them find Nemo). As the story unravels, they meet sharks, a whale, jellyfish, and some Australian turtles that help them to the place that was written on the goggles.

Back with Nemo. Nemo has put into a fish aquarium in a dentist office. He tries an escape plan that another fish thought up. It doesn't work. Every time the dentist's niece (Darla) comes, he gives her a fish. Darla shakes the bags that the fish are in so that they die. Nemo is going to be next. Will Marlon come in time to save Nemo????

My favorite character is Dory. And my favorite scene is with the whale. It has a good scipt, super animation and models, and great voices/sound effects.
