Summary: one of the worst of the summer
Review: This movie rates up there with The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle - a horrific waste of time. The "acting" and line delivery is wooden, the visuals are grainy and murky, and the plot line (although quite understandable) is completely implausible touchy-feely new-age hokum. It was difficult to tell what the characters were feeling because their faces were expressionless most of the time (a limitation of computer graphics at this time). My teenage daughter who is very familiar with Final Fantasy thought this movie was boring and ridiculous. Let's stop turning video games into movies and leave them where they belong - on the screen with a user interface.

Summary: New Age Garbage!
Review: Though the animation was the best CGI work I have ever seen, the movie was ruined by a ridiculous story line. Let's stick to hard Science Fiction folks and leave out the stupid New Age ideas.

Summary: Nice...
Review: Final Fantasy was a great movie before I get to my review let me tell you that I only played one Final Fantasy game which was Final Fantasy VII, It was my favorite game of all time. I'm telling you this so you know that this review is from an avid FF gamer.

The movie was definatly stunning. The animation was a breakthrough for all movies. The people definatly looked real as did the environments.

The story was a tad dragging and maybe a little complex but after some thought and after I got my thoughts past the animation and really thought of the story itself I thought it was pretty good. Definaltly better then your average Video Game to Movie (i.e. Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider)

Check it out, you may be surprised

Summary: Another good animated sci-fi movie with poor sales
Review: One again we see with Final Fantasy the same thing that happened with Iron Giant and Titan AE. Without the Disney logo or pixar presents tacked on to it, FF has joined so many other worthy films that are dismissed as "second rate animation".

Well, this movie is not a poor film. Is it wonderful in all aspects? No. Does it have flaws? Yes. But as a creative work it stands with anything else released this summer. It is no more "hokey" than Mummy Returns, no more "contrived" than Shrek, and no more "unsophisticated" than the Fast and Furious. Its just not making as many box office dollars.

And in response to the critques of it not being as good as the games. Well, the games weren't always all that good. The movie had a plot I could follow from beginning to end (not something that could be said of all the Final Fantasy games).

Final Fantasy is a well done animated sci-fi that takes old ideas and gives them a fresh look. This is not a bad thing. In fact, this exactly the formula that made all the films that did well this summer a hit.

And if entertaining sci-fi isn't a good enough reason to see it...then consider that it is part of film history. And eventually when someone makes a super realistic CG movie that will blow everyone away at the box office and some of us may like to say we saw that kind of thing before it was "kewl".

Summary: Basic good sci-fi movie
Review: I enjoy sci-fi movies, but good ones are usually few and far between during the summer movie season. Final Fantasy was an enjoyable surprise at the theater this weekend. It had a decent plot, interesting characters, great special effects, and it moved along at a nice pace. If you enjoy a basic sci-fi movie you won't waste your money or time going to see Final Fantasy.

Summary: Yes we all know that it was very good -^^-
Review: My friend and I, being the devoted Final Fantasy fans that we are, decided to go to see 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within' on it's opening day. Now, before we saw it I had been reading a lot of reviews and everything about how it's going to be horrible and this and that, written by people who hadn't even seen it yet! Well we have just one thing to say to them. >.< They had no right to judge the movie before it even came out, and we thought that it was just PEACHY! >_< The plot was excellent, and the character design was so real, we could hardly tell the difference.

Everything was very 'Final Fantasy' in my opinion. Many people were saying, "Oh, it's too Sci-Fi". Well, who said that Final Fantasy couldn't be sci-fi?! I mean, if the ones who've played the games have noticed, the games are all set in different time frames with different locations etc etc. -^^- AND, they still gave it the Final Fantasy 'flare' that we all love so much! They even stuck a Cid in there! YAY! I mean, some of it was ehh..a little on the FF7 side, but who cares! For example, 'gaia' did kind of resemble the 'life stream' in Final Fantasy 7, but it was still original in its own way.

Yes we all know that it was very good. There's no law that says that all the Final Fantasy's have to be the same is there? Huh? HUH? Show me one! >_< My friend and I personally believe that Squaresoft and whoever else made the movie had the right to make the movie however they pleased!

All Final Fantasy stories are different and creative in their own way, and there's no strict limitations as to what it is 'supposed' to be like, is there? no! So ha. We laugh in your face. Yes you, the people that critiqued it before it even came out.

Summary: Where are the spirits?
Review: No, I haven't played the original games, so my following comments are only based on the movie, without any connections to the games.

Yes, the CG is extraordinarily great. The best I have ever seen. However, I've noticed an old problem that exists in every CG cartoon: the characters lack realistic emotions and face expression. I wonder, if they try so hard to make the characters look like real people, why don't they just use real actors instead of making a bunch of souless CG characters? However, the effort that the CG artists input can be seen and the result is unmistakably great. The storyline is ok in my opinion although it is not the best, but I easily found myself comparing FF with Aliens which easily stands out while being compared.

Overalls, it is not a bad movie. However, the CG deserves something different I guess. The CG characters can never replace real actors who have souls and emotions. This is the real problem of FF: a body without spirit.

Summary: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Review: I really liked this movie. Despite my love for the Final Fantasy saga, it was a great movie. The reason I liked movie is that it started out good and funny then further on it became serious, violent and well, that's my kind movie but, of course I don't know what your's is. Its a real PG-13 movie not like titanic which should have been rated R. In a nutshell this movie is very well rounded. That's my movie review for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Wthin... :1

Summary: Would have been a 5 star
Review: This movie would have been a 5 star, if it weren't for one thing...the dialogue. I think they were going the right route with it in that they wanted to make it unobtrusive to the imagery, which tells the story far more beautifully than any words could. However rather than having 'to the point' dialogue they ended up with a string of corny lines which actually distract from the movies narrative strong point.

That being said the movie is otherwise cinematically brilliant. Those who say the 'plot' is bad are those who-as with the majority of film-goers-don't really know what 'plot' is or how it figures into a movie. Therefore, they lump all non-visual aspects of the movie into the category. A plot by itself is always a bland thing. It's up to the storyteller to make it interesting.

And my criticism of the dialogue should not be mistaken for criticism of the actors who delivered it. They all did the best they could with limited material.
