Rating: Summary: Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Review: A friend dropped this off at my place and told me to watch it, he thought it was great and thought that I would like it too. This is a great movie for people who just love to talk and talk and talk about life instead of actually shutting up for two seconds and living it. I'm not saying that thinking about who you are and figuring out what you believe in isn't a good thing, because it is, but you actually have to live life to have anything important to say about it. But nothing happens in this movie, all these people do is talk about life, but they never actually live. It's just a load of introspective crap. As far as the animation goes, give me a break. I am an artist, and the in my opinion, the movie isn't worth watching even just for the animation either. It might be original; that doens't make it good. Don't bother wasting your money to rent or buy this movie. The title of this review pretty much sums it up!
Rating: Summary: don't forget the music Review: I can't believe that no one has mentioned the music in this movie - even if you're not a tango fan, the beautiful melancholic insanity of the music is the perfect weave with the "storyline" that constantly pushes your tolerance and attention. If you are a tango fan, for the love of god just buy the movie already. This movie is one of those rare gems that makes sense on one level the first time you watch it, and more and more levels the more times you watch it, which you have to do just to pick up all the cool little details woven in. I've never seen a movie so visually and verbally integrated - the freedom of animation allowed the storytellers to make everything one cohesive trip - fantastical thoughts and ramblings get fantastical scenes that because they're shot from live actors, retain about the same connection to reality that a dream does. Such an amazing movie.
Rating: Summary: Waking Life Review: In a dream, once you realize your dreaming you can control it and do what you want, aka lucid dreaming. So the question is, what if you realized your actually living?...
Rating: Summary: Waking Life freaked me out! Review: Oh, boy, what a movie! It gave me such a different view on life. I don't thing I'll ever see the world the same way again! Waking Life was actually kind of scary. It had this eerie feeling to it and I'm still haunted by it in short freaky flashes. Some scenes really baffled me while others I really thought about. After seeing that movie, I dream alot more and now I know how to tell if I'm dreaming because of the movie. It really works. This is NOT a good movie to watch just before you go to sleep. It's better for when you wake up in the morning. Big dreamers can watch this movie any time they want. I wouldn't advise showing this movie to little kids because they may be frightened by it. Overall, a fantastic movie but still scary to watch.
Rating: Summary: you will be amazed.... Review: this is by far the best movie i have ever seen, and i am a huge movie connoisseur. Honestly this movie moves me like no other. Give your brain something to think about and buy this dvd at any cost you wont be let down.
Rating: Summary: If you don't get it, you ARE stupid! Review: Although Richard Linklater has become the latter day saint of overintellectualization, I've always felt that he's earned a pass because at least he's got the courage to go this route in the first place. Few others in the film industry would even dream of.... Woops. Come to think of it, this film could have just as easily been called "Dreaming Life', but that's actually the point. The word 'dream' can be both a noun and a verb. This film, in a way, takes off from the first scene in Slacker, made over ten years before this one, where Linklater blah blahs about this dream that he just had on the bus. And then he starts to realize that maybe THEN he was awake, and NOW he's dreaming. With all this undergraduate philosophy flying around, you'd think it would be a bunch of hooey. On the contrary, I think Linklater is doing this for the fun of it. The animation is excellent. Like I said, if you don't get this, you're probably stupid, or maybe you're just dreaming.
Rating: Summary: amazing. Review: A great movie for people who think The Matrix is too simple or are just mesmerized by great animation. Occasionally some of the dialogue went in one ear and out the other, but during those times the animation was particurally insane and I still had my eyes glued to the screen. Not only is the film smart and gorgeous, but it has some really clever creative moments right out of everyone's dreams. I saw Waking Life in September and I still think about things that were brought up. This film is simply amazing in every aspect that a film can be amazing.
Rating: Summary: I don't get it. Review: i don't get it. it may be because i'm stupid, though.
Rating: Summary: Waking Life Review: I think this movie is brilliant. You have to be smart to understand it.The DVD is great. The movie is about different views of life and dreams.
Rating: Summary: This film isn't for everyone Review: I don't think a lot of the people reviewing this film "get it". It doesn't have a storyline in the usual sense - that much is true. But there is a point to it - I just don't think the people rating it one star understand it. You have to watch it to the very end. It is visually stimulating although I can understand why many would easily tire of this type of animation. For the length of the film it is basically one person listening to others' philosophical ramblings. I think some people are turned off by this because they don't necessarily understand all of the ramblings or perhaps they need a more distinct storyline. Is it a great film? - no. Is it interesting both visually and intellectually? - yes. Did I agree with all of the philosophies cited during it? - no, it would be impossible since many of them conflict with each other. It's meant to be eye opening. ...
