Summary: Quack Quack Quack
Review: Love the Donald collection - been waiting for this one to come out more than any of the other characters! (Sorry, Mickey!) This is a great collection to own, comments by Leonard Maltin and all. I wouldn't be surprised if all of his PC comments were added to appease image-concious Disney. However, if that's what it takes to get these wonderful animated shorts released, then so be it! Also, a request to other reviewers: if you haven't watched the dvd, please don't post a review! It's one thing to post criticisms of something's content, but another to post a bad review based on your dislike for Disney animation! I'll get off my soap box now and go watch some more wonderful Donald cartoons!

Summary: Great Duck Almighty
Review: Love the Packaging, and the full versions of the Cartoons.
Why no Numbering of the tins? Because each one has a numbered certificate!!
Absolutely great to see the full versions of the Cartoons I had only seen in TV edits before. Loads of fun for Duck fans.
About all I need now is the full collection of DUCK TALES, even though I was pretty mad that Donald was not in Duck Tales as much as he should have been.
Now all I have to do is get the FRONT LINES collection because that has some great Donald Duck material.
Bless you Disney !!! You are even putting out Widescreen editions of classic films as well .... Hopefully a WideScreen FOX AND HOUND version is out !!!

Summary: I love Donald.
Review: Not too long ago one of my friends asked me "Why Donald?" He was referring to a period in the studio's history (never more prevalant than in the wartime films, available on another DVD) when Donald Duck was the big star. Why, asked my friend, was Donald Duck so wildly popular. More to the point, why did they decide that he would be the ideal star of morale-boosting, patriotism-inspiring war films? The answer is simple: Mickey Mouse is an idealist. He's how people SHOULD be. If the world were more like Mickey, it'd be a happier place. But, despite their overall "When You Wish Upon a Star" attitude (which seems to have died with Walt. Boo, Eisner!) the animators knew that things were not perfect and that the majority of Americans were like Donald Duck. You make fun of his temper-tantrums, but how many times in your life have you blown a fuse over something seemingly unimportant? We are all of us a little bit of Donald Duck...after all, who hasn't felt, at least once in their life, that no one understands us?

That's kind of a nice thought, isn't it?

Summary: Maltin's sermons prevent 5 stars
Review: Oh, man, what a GREAT dvd set. Say what you want about Disney being an Evil Empire, but they know how to put together these sets. My daughter and I laughed our heads off through the first disc and are making our way through the 2nd.
Donald IS Disney's best character, because, well, he's one of us, just trying to make his way through the world and dealing, or trying his best to deal, with life's usual b.s.
The quality of these cartoons is incredible considering they came out 60 to 70 years ago. The colors are so vivid they verge on the brink of hurting your eyes.
The big drawback however is Leonard Maltin's sermonizing about gunplay and stereotyping... all the unPC stuff. I feel like he thinks morons are watching these cartoons. He keeps giving the "that was what was done then, but we would never consider doing it now". Ok, Leonard, once is enough, thanks. The lowpoint is "Donald's Penguin" in which we're told that the penguin did not get hurt except when Donald gave it a spanking. It's a flipping CARTOON! Makes me realize how uptight we are as a society these days. I don't think you'd find Warner Bros. apologizing for their cartoons (at least I hope they don't).

So, buy this... but skip over Maltin's mewlings.

Summary: Donald rules!
Review: The ultimate Donald Duck collection! I can't wait, I've seen a ton of these Donald shorts over the years in this collection of a few dozen Donald classics. DVD is WAY overdue in releasing a collection of these masterpieces. Anger is his gift, Long live Donald Duck!

Summary: Donald is a joke....
Review: The whole idea of having this duck with a slight slurring speech problem, three nephews, and a hundreds of relatives that seem to vist him every cartoon is so ludrioucs and so unfunny. I can watch these cartoons and fall asleep ten seconds into them because they are so uninteresting. That was the problem with Disney animation. It's too polite, too soft, too predictable, and have these very layed back jokes that would make anyone fall asleep watching them. I belive Disney animation does not work because it tries too hard to be mainstream and relfect mainstream ideas. Animation needs to be non-mainstream and much more energenic then that. You will not find it here.

Summary: Am I a surprised duck!
Review: These DVDs feature the first 35 shorts where Donald Duck was the lead character; plus his very first cartoon "The Wise Little Hen", where he played second fiddle to the title character. Prior to and concurrent with his own cartoon series, Donald appeared as a supporting character in Mickey Mouse cartoons. None of those cartoons are included. But the cartoons that are here are terrific. Some of them are better than others, of course, but all of them are good. There are three Easter Eggs (that I know of). To access them, just highlight the pictures of Donald in the bonus features sections and hit "enter". There is a clip from "The Reluctant Dragon" of Clarance Nash and Florence Gill recording a duet as Donald Duck and Clara Cluck. There is another clip from "The Reluctant Dragon", where Donald Duck shows how a cartoon is made. And there is a brief Donald Duck short called "The Volunteer Worker", which was made to encourage people to give to charity. This is a terrific package that will appeal to fans of vintage cartoons.

Summary: The Classics are a must for your DVD Collection
Review: These releases from Disney are great. I can now show my kids the history of Disney and let them see Disney was around before The Little Mermaid. Hopefully Disney will keep them coming since the will probably never air again this is the only way to watch them.

Summary: Donald For Prez
Review: What's really neat about a collection like this is that you can actually see the evolution of a character, particularly critical when we consider that were talking about 1936-41, not exactly unimportant years in the development of the psyche of modern and post-modern America. A must for Americanist cultural historians.

Otherwise - a recent newspaper interview with a second grader in our town revealed the real reason why you should buy this disc. When asked who she thought would make a good president in 2004, her response was: "Donald Duck - because he's so funny."

Ah - enlightenment!
