Summary: The Iron Giant
Review: This was an awesome movie! Armed with a touching storyline of a somewhat geeky boy who is picked on at school who finds a friend, but not just any friend! A walking, talking, believe-it-or-not iron giant from outer-space! The boy, Hogarth Hughes, somehow comes across a giant, and they become great buddies. But the government is in on the secret too, so they send out an agent to investigate. This government agent tracks down the giant, and the story flips over, from an emotional, touching friendship, to an action-packed battle between the government and the giant. This movie is wonderful, as Hogarth almost gives his life to protect the giant, while the iron giant almost gives his to protect Hogarth. Who could have thought up such an incredible, awe-inspiring plot, such as this wonderful story by Ted Hughes? And who could have thought up such a phenonenal idea of putting Ted Hughes's words to the TV screen, so that millions of children all over the world could share the magic of "The Iron Giant"? This movie is a true classic, and a wonderful film to have at your house.

Summary: A definite improvement on Ted Hughes book!
Review: My son and I read Ted Hughes book and think that Brad Bird and company did a superior job of reflecting the book's concept of the "atom" (i.e. the misunderstood Iron Giant) as a potentially innocent and helpful entity turned toward malignant purposes during the Second World War. However, Bird did the book one better by constructing a more cohesive screenplay and solidifying the concept that man could find constructive use for atomic power if he could step beyond the paranoia about its dangers. On a kid level, a dual message about self-determinism and independence from peer-pressure is translated clearly but without banal redundancy. I concur with the reviews regarding the animation excellence and my first observation upon seeing it on the "big screen" was that even the manner of the illustration reflected the 1950ish genre. A thoroughly laudable movie -- let's hope it attains some mention at the Oscars!

Summary: Iron Giant...HEAVY!
Review: I may not be able to speak as eloquently as the other reviewers who have previously entered comments about this masterful movie. However, this movie is one of the greatest animated movies of all time. There have only been 3 movies in my life that have made me cry this being one of them the other two are Schindler's List and Grave of the Fireflies. This is a movie that will become a true classic!

Summary: Incredible
Review: This is the best animated work I've seen in a long, long time. The story is beautiful, encasing a vital life lesson; the characters are believeable, even loveable; the animation is sensitive and shows an intense passion for the life with which the film's characters have so successfully been imbued. Every child, every grown-up, every thinking being on earth should see this film. This should be the animated film standard to which all other new animations should be compared.

Thank you to Brad Bird, his vision and his commendable crew of artists and engineers for this incredible film.

Summary: Kicks Disney's @ss!
Review: This is the finest animation on the North American Continent. The voice acting of Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr., and Vin Deisel make this an outstanding addition to anyones DVD library. The animation is truely fantastic in-the-sense-that a "Gun" would have a soul and have feelings. This movie is great for young people and older people. People who knew the 50's Cold War will really enjoy the way this movie pokes fun at how bad the propaganda used to be. You need to see this movie.

Summary: Let's Not Get Too Excited
Review: Iron Giant suffers somewhat from pacing (muvh as 'The Matrix' does), but this is really one of the only minor flaws in the movie (besides some of the boy's lines which I found a bit irritating, as if someone from Fox animation decided to script a scene for him).

Anyways, I won't be long with this review, I don't want to repeat what's already been said.

I will mention that 'Iron Giant' sets up the mood as well as any of WB's other better works (I'm pointing at 'Batman' right now). The first scene where the boy meets the robot is undeniably electrifying (no pun intended to those who've seen the movie). Again, it's not as good as I had hoped it would be but it deserves a place along other great animated works, like 'Jungle Book' or that other movie.

Summary: Deserves 6 stars
Review: This movie really surprised me. I'm 16 years old and it was my younger brother who received this movie for Christmas. I watched it with my family and to tell the truth I was highly skeptical about the quality of the video. However I was delightfully surprised by the simple yet wonderful quality of "The Iron Giant." You fall in love with Hogarth and the Iron Giant and I even shed tears at the end! My whole family loved the movie and I would definately recommend it to anyone who wishes to see a truly well made movie with classic music, and a plot that isn't predictable.

Summary: An animation masterpiece
Review: I missed the chance to see this in theaters, but finally saw it on VHS when I rented it one night. After seeing it, I knew I had to get a copy of it on DVD. This is truly an impressive piece of work. It is unfortunate that it did not do well at the box office, especially when lesser animated products have done better. The picture quality is exellent. The colors are bright and rich and everything is crystal clear. No scratches, dust or grain, as far as I could tell. The audio is very good as well. You have the option of a full-screen or wide-screen presentation when watching this disc. Personally, I prefer the widescreen, and in this viewing format it's really nice. The only negative is that this disc is a little on the light side as far as extra features go. More would've been nice, and a commentary by director Brad Bird would've been an added plus. However, these are really minor complaints. The important thing is the movie itself, which in this case is fine product and a quality presentation. That's all that really matters in the end. You won't be disappointed!

Summary: One of the best movies I have ever seen
Review: I wish that I could add to the fine review that Athena has already written. This superb work of film making art indeed brought tears to my eyes as well, with the touching depth of the soulful story that this film so wonderfully tells.

I can only hope that more people have the opportunity to share the wonderment and feeling that this incredible work can evoke.

Share this film with someone you love of any age, there are two strong messages that you'll be sharing: the magic of still being able to touch the wonderment that lives inside each of us, and the concept of love itself.

Summary: Spectacular! A Modern Classic!
Review: I must admit I was somewhat uncertain about it at first. Let'sface it, with a title like IRON GIANT, doesn't exactly sound like awinner. And, I'm willing to bet I wasn't the only one with that impression. Aside from the truly awesome animation and an engaging story-line, what partiularly amazed me was the vibrant color of the picture which in itself draws the viewer. I can't remember watching an animated feature quite like this. I happened to turn on the movie while my parents were visiting and instantly, they too were glued to the tube. A very touching and intelligent film, this modern classic has raised the animation bar. A must have!
