Summary: For Japanimation this movie did not have guts like others
Review: When I bought this DVD I thought, cool Japanimation, lots of guns shooting, and guts flying. But boy was this movie tame. Sure it won lots of awards, but I was not impressed at all

Summary: Shell Shock
Review: This is an absolute must-have for ANY anime fan. The DVD format makes the best cyberpunk anime film ever, even better! The visual quality is stunning. If you thought DVD could not do anything to animation, think again! Bonuses in this version include an on-disc guide to the movie and philosophy, as well as character profiles, a glossary, and more! I believe the format was taken advantage of to its potential. The future of Japanese animation is here!: DVD!

Summary: Excellent
Review: I have seen quite a bit of good anime in my time but this movie rates higher than most (if not all) that I have seen. The DVD format really brings it home as well...It is a beautifully done movie, great story, and anyone who enjoys movies (not just anime) needs to get this one!

Summary: Ghost in the Shell is a good movie with incredible animation
Review: Ghost in the shell was an excellent movie with amazing animation. The creators really out did themselves by combining 3d pictures with 2d animation cells. The story has an interesting plot that has neat characters.

Summary: Entertaining yet thought-provoking
Review: Never having seen an anime before, I was not expecting a lot from this video that a young friend of mine insisted I watch. Within 5 minutes I was enthralled by both the story and the beautiful artwork. A great way to introduce someone to the genre.

Summary: Perhaps one of the best Anime ever.
Review: The story focuses around a woman cyborg named Motako. She is part of an elite police force that inspects terrorists and hackers. It seems that recently there has been many hackers who have penetrated government computers but the hackers have been "ghost hacked". This means that their memories have been erased and have been implanted with fake ones, so the hackers don't really know what they are doing. Along the way we meet an elite hacker calling itself "The Puppet Master" which Motako must investigate. This is a fabulous anime that will have fans of Cyberpunk and Shadowrun drooling over it's details. Buy it don't just rent it. Then buy five more just to make sure you won't lose one! (joking)

Summary: brilliant, easily rivals AKIRA as the industry standard.
Review: This movie to me represents an artistic , entertaining view at an ever perplexing question ;where does the soul reside in one's body? "G.I.T.S" presents the question that After extensive augmentation , where is the room in the body for the " ghost " In the "shell" . This movie has ,I believe , set the standard for story and art in anime.

Summary: A must-see for cyberpunk fans.
Review: Directed by Mamoru Oshii, who is well-known for his work on the extremely popular Patlabor and Urusei Yatsura anime series, explores issues surrounding one's own existence. It's also filled with some of the most poetic and fluid action scenes ever. The DVD transfer is excellent, and the colors, compared to the benchmark Japanese LD version, appear accurate -- especially in the gorgeous background paintings. One star deduction for Manga heinously removing the original end credit song and replacing it with "One Minute Warning" (Brian Eno & U2) in the Japanese audio track (somebody was asleep at the wheel in their Quality Control department). Otherwise, a top-notch DVD full of extras and should dispel those with the preconceived notion that Japanese animation is simplistic and just for kids.

Summary: Ghost in the Shell, one of the best animes out there...
Review: This is one of the greatest anime movies i've ever seen. It's a Manga, so you know its gotta be good. In the year 2029, the world is made borderless by the net; augmented humans live in virtual environments, watched over by law enforcement that is able to download themselves into super-powered, crime busting mecha. The ultimate secret agent of the future is not human, has no physical body and can freely travel the information highways of the world, hacking and manipulating whatever and whenever required. The time and effort put in to this work is virtually unsurpassed by any other animes out there, and you'll definitely get your money's worth...

Summary: Masamune Shirow meets "2001"
Review: If you are expecting "Appleseed" or "Dominion," you won't find it -- but you won't be disappointed, either.

This film requires attention by the viewer -- the story is intricate and many things are only explained by context, and understood later. Get comfortable before you push PLAY, because you won't be getting up for a while for fear of missing yet another important subtlety. I've seen it several times and still haven't seen everything. Just like reading a Shirow manga, there are more subliminals than a Mike Jittlov film and some sections are worthy of frame-by-frame study.

Special features include a presentation on the production which itself is worth seeing.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 simply because some of the basics were never explained -- for some people, this will be a drawback.
