Summary: one of greatest animation movies from the 80's
Review: I remember seeing this movie in the movie theater when I was about 8 years old. It is possibly one of the greatest animation movies to come out of the 80's. The story line and action are superb. I have been looking to rent this movie but nobody seems to have it in stock. When I came across the video here at amazon I thought it would be even better to have it on dvd. But I see that it is not on dvd. As soon as it does come I will buy it so that the next generation can see it.

Summary: great characters
Review: I watched this movie with complete fasicnation as a child, and now that I am an adult, I have found that I can still appreciate it, in some ways even more.
The main character, is a beautiful and brave unicorn who is trying to save her people and becomes trapped in the body of a mortal woman by her inept but well-meaning spellcaster friend, Smendrick. All of the characters are exceptionally well portrayed, my personal favorite is Molly, a very beliveable normal woman (who happens to share my name). Molly is refreshingly mundane, both humble and strongwilled, and one of the few who can dream enough to see a unicorn for what it is. This sort of female character is hardly ever found in the fantasy world of beautiful babes, seductress spellcasters and man-hating amazons. All of the characters are amazing. The animation is astounding, and the story filled with subtle symbolisim. A very enjoyable movie, and an even better book.

Summary: Love!
Review: Gods, I love this movie so much. Sure, the animation could be better, but I could never hope for anything as wonderful as this. When I was young I must have watched a million times. The tape was worn down, and I've been looking for a new one ever since. This movie, book, soundtrack, everything is amazing. I have never seen such an intresting plot, or beautiful words on a page. I might be a little obsessed, but I don't mind...this movie is amazing.

Summary: The Movie That Inspired Me Most As A Child
Review: Everyone finds one movie during their childhood that grasps their attention and holds it for life. There has been a glistening memory of this movie imprinted in my mind ever since I watched it as young girlW/ my parents. In times of difficulty I look to this mystical telling of the book and it encourages me to do the right thing. This beautiful, captivating story wants me (and I'm sure anyoneelse who watches it) to become a unicorn. I wish i was a unicorn. But seriously, the images in this movie are amazing. Sometimes the image of a red bull chasing hundreds of terrified unicorns into the sea pops into my head and makes me happy. I adore this movie and would watch it millions of times if I had time. WATCH THIS MMOVIE.

Summary: No mistaking this classic!
Review: This is an incredibly strong, beautiful and entertaining movie if you can get past the dated animation, which I think actually adds something to the feel of the whole thing.

The last of the unicorns is told that the rest of her kind were herded into captivity a flaming beast called the Red Bull. She begins alone on her quest to rescue the rest of her kind, having to leave the safety of her wood (where she can not be killed) and is joined in time by a hapless wizzard/jest, a strong willed woman and a warrior prince.

The story is wonderfully told and the actors use their voices well to compliment what is a most beautiful dialogue. It is further enhanced by exquisitly crafted songs with strong melodies and vivid lyrics to match. It all adds up to a wonderful, moving and memorable experience.

In my humble opinion - there's no mistaking this as a family classic. In the words of King Haggard:
"I know you! I almost knew you as soon as I saw you coming on the road, with your cook and your clown; since then, there is no movement of yours that has not betrayed you! A pace, a glance, a turn of the head, the flash of your throat as you breathe, even your way of standing perfectly still, they were all my spies!"

Summary: When good books go bad
Review: I should give up watching movies (or cartoons) based on books I have read.
The fact that Rankin & Bass did the animation for this movie should have clued me in to its total lack of artistry, (I had already seen their version of "The Hobbit", after all).
The book, written by Peter S Beagle, was an astonishingly fresh and insightful vision of a world in which a unicorn finds that she is not only the last of her kind, but that most people no longer believe unicorns ever existed in the first place. The cartoon was little more than a watered down version of the original story, lacking the enchanting prose and fairytale flavor of the original.
Nowhere in the promos do they mention adult language or content, however, there is too much of that in the cartoon, which could make some parents a bit nervous. I truly would not enjoy having to have to explain to my five year old why Molly McGrue was so upset that the unicorn had not arrived sooner! The image of the Red Bull is frightening enough, not to mention Mommy Fortuna or the nightmarish Harpy. I would never recommend this for children under the age of twelve, and I would not recommend it for adults either, since most of the story's original message is lost in the hackneyed cartooning on this video.

Summary: Classic all the Way, for every generation!
Review: I remember seeing this when I was younger on the TV, liking it, but not thinking of it much. What I remember most was the music and the beautiful art of the animation. Years later, I saw this on Amazon.com, looking around. I remembered it and knew my 4 year old daughter liked "fantasy" type things, (mermaids and faries). So I purchased this thinking she'd like it.

Was I ever wrong.... SHE LOVED IT! I also found that I knew the voices of the actors (Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, and MANY more) that I did not appreciate when I was younger. I think I found more enjoyment of the film now that I'm in my mid 30's, with my daughter, than when I was younger.

A true classic anamated tale with a great story plot, fabulous soundtrack with haunting melodies, historic vocal talents and an all around "KEEPER". My question is.. WHEN CAN I GET IT ON DVD???!!!???!!! I'll be first in line! (My daughter will be second I'm sure!)

ENJOY! :-)

Summary: This movie needs to be released for DVD!
Review: Of all the movies that are being released for DVD, I can't believe this one hasn't been released yet!

The Last Unicorn is truely a wonderful anime animation production great for the whole family, especially for its age. This movie still carries a lot of popularity and a large fan base. I certainly hope they will be releasing it on DVD soon.

Summary: my childhood favorite
Review: I haven't seen this movie in over 15 years. It is the first movie I ever remember watching, and I remember crying throughout it, which is an unusual response to a movie for a child. I was in preschool at the time, I could not have been more than 4 or 5 years old, but I still remember the basic plot. For several years now, I have been trying to find a copy of this movie, or find someone else who remembers it, because I want to see it again. Unfortunately, the video I watched was Beta, which is completely obsolete now, so I don't know where to find a VHS of it. I might buy one, because this movie strikes a very special chord with me. Maybe if I get my hands on a copy of it and start watching, I will be taken back to the weekday afternoon in 1986 when I went to my friend Katie's house and we watched this movie. I'm not expecting timetravel, but the fact that so many years later I can still remember the main theme song really speaks to the power of this movie and the effect it has on children, and sensitive individuals at any age.
