Summary: Escaflowne
Review: It really isn't hard to rate this DVD. Honestly, Escaflowne is one of the finest Anime of any genre and is probably the only fantasy/giant-robot anime in existance.

The story is similar to that of Fushigi Yuugi, a young girl transported to a strange world where she promptly falls in love with every guy she sees. Unlike Fushigi, there is a great deal more action and far less of the zany humor (though Merle has her moments). This results in a far more coherent story that is still entertaining to watch.

An often underappreciated aspect of DVD's such as this one is the inclusion of music videos on the disc. From the main menu these can be accessed, and they are really quite incredible. I would rank Escaflowne's music among the finest with Fushigi, Devil Hunter Yohko, and Evangelion.

By the way, the melaf's are no way near as integral to Escaflowne as the EVAs are to Evangelion, so if the giant-robot genre turns you off, this anime still has a lot to offer.

Summary: Dragons, School Girls, and Giant Robots Oh My!!!!!!!
Review: I was one of the FOX KIDS inductees to this anime experience of Escaflowne. I loved it from the start, but once I got the DVD I saw all that I had been missing. The story has much more intrigue and bloodshed in the DVD then was ever shown on TV. I immediately fell in love with Escaflowne all over again.

Although, to me it's not hard to love this, it has everything a boy could want in his anime: Dragons, School Girls, and Giant Robots, it's like a dream come true. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the animation, story, and characters are so wonderfully done and beautifully blended together it's a new level of perfection.

Summary: The Best Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I love Escaflowne!!It is the best anime cartoon i have ever seen. Escaflowne has a lot of cool things on this DVD. I just love the show & the Music Vidios. ("No Need To Promise" "Tomodachi" "Aoi Hitomi" "Hikari No Naka E") They are the best. i story is sad but cool. Escaflowne is for 13up. The reason being the it has so bad words in it but it is also VERY BLOODY. You will love this DVD because the Fox Kids version is not as cool as it really is. If you loved the cut version wait till you see the uncut version. It is fun to wacth in japanese & in English. Escaflowne #1 Dargons and Destiny contains the episodes of #1 Fateful Confession #2 The Girl From The Mystic Moon #3 The Gallant Swordsman #4 The Diabolical Adonis. The 4 eps. are very interesting. You will not be disappointed in this DVD. You will be disappointed in Fox Kids for having the cut version. I loved this DVD. It is the best you can find.

Summary: Escaflowne, nuff said.
Review: I am not as verbose as some about my reviews, to be completely honest, the only thing that got me wanting to watch Escaflowne was a panel with the composer Yoko Kanno at Otakon in Baltimore. While waiting for the panel, I saw the videos that you will see on the first DVD. That caught my interest. After getting 2 soundtrack CDs and listening to them a lot, I finally saw the Escaflowne DVD for sale. After purchasing the first two volumes I was hooked. I love the series. The characters and storyline combined with the music of one of my favorite composers has drawn me in to the point I am anxiously waiting for the next two volumes to come out in April so I can continue watching the series.

I highly reccomend this series for anyone that is a fan of Yoko Kanno or is just interested in a good anime series.

I'm only going to post my review on the first volume because it holds true for the rest of the series so far.

Summary: Everything was great but one thing
Review: hey this a great anime but the layout stunk. The first 4 epi. on the first dvdwhere great, but each is only about 11 min. long. The other thing that made me a little angry, was that there was alot of waisted space on the dvd. why not cut the preveiws of each scene out? Come on we like to see the show not waisting are time skipping the tracks to get to the next scene. But the animation was great and the extras where cool. Its a great show dont get me wrong, I just think they could of skipped the junk, and let the episodes flow into eachother, and leave the credits and all that happy stuff till the end.

Summary: A great anime, except for one MAJOR flaw...
Review: Escaflowne is a great anime to watch. It is beautifully animated, the story is very engaging, and the music is excellent. However, even with all of these positive factors behind it, I have to say that Escaflowne annoyed me heavily in one respect. And that is...

The character Hitomi. She is the main female lead character of Escaflowne, if not the main lead character period. Hitomi, unfortunately, is very likely to get on your nerves as the anime progresses, as she did mine. She is selfish, self-righteous, fickle with love, and self-centered. In many occasions through the entire series of 26 episodes, Hitomi repeatedly makes the same mistakes over and over again, and yet, she never learns from them, nor matures. This causes the anime to be very disappointing, and sometimes hard to handle. Another disappointing factor is the fact that in the eyes of others, Hitomi can do no wrong. Even when she is clearly in the wrong, the characters around her always apologize to her for one dumb reason or another. That pushes the character of Hitomi into further egocentric behavior. She always acts as though she's an authority of what's right and what's wrong. To anyone who listens to her constant rants, it can get very tiresome. Overall, she is not a bad individual. Not in the least. She is a very caring and thoughtful individual. However, I felt her development by the designers, or lack therefore, have cause Escalfowne to not deserve respect in which it clearly should. If Hitomi was a minor character with no prominent role, she would have been tolerable. But as the main female lead character, her immaturity drags down the show's crediblity and greatness. In a war that incompasses countless people, is the feelings and needs of one girl (Hitomi) so darn important?

Even with Hitomi's major character flaws, the rest of the cast manages to draw you in to the wonderful world of Gaea. It's just that sometimes, with Hitomi around, one wished someone would just kick HER out of Gaea so the story would be more enjoyable. Still, I recommend watching Escaflowne. It is a great anime.

Summary: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: as before i love anime and this title is among the greatest animated shows of all time. it's great and fun. the voices fit perfectly with characters. i heard on sites that the sub is better than the dub because the voices are dumb. no no no. the voices are once again great. the uncut version is good but it lacks the great music that Fox Kids put in. i mean most of time in the episode it remains silent unlike the fox kids version it has music that fits the situation. as far the episodes are great but i wish the dvd makers could have put more cool music and sound effects.(little clicks to opening cockpits, i mean sheesh)

Summary: Escaflowne is great...
Review: Escaflowne is great -- perfect for all ages, adventure, action, romance, intrigue -- and I'd recommend getting it except that I personally find it difficult to shell out $25-30 times 7 or 8 or 9 (whatever it is!) sets of episodes. I wish they'd release the whole series in a set like they did on VHS and then I'd pay for the slightly-reduced cost. Well, maybe that's silly. If that doesn't bother you then get Escaflowne. It pulls the whole mechanoid-fighting genre into a wonderfully engaging storyline.

And please, watch it in Japanese with the English subs on! So much better!

Summary: The Best Anime series yet!
Review: This anime is by far the most entertaining I have ever watched. The soundtrack is amazing, the story is unique and the animation is top notch. Escaflowne is the perfect blend of sci-fi, fantasy and romance. FOX treated this series horribly, and no anime collection is complete without it!
