Summary: Hilarity Continues
Review: As the rest of Love Hina. The same comedy can be found here that never gets old. A must buy!

Summary: Great show.
Review: Before getting this disk I saw volume 1. This is a great show with much humor. It was like watching Maison Ikkoku all over again. You have a bungling ronin, rickety old building, attractive felmale lead, and a few strange residents.

The first two episodes dealt mainly with Naru and Keitaro. Those two actually make a good couple, until they get thier glasses repaired. You also see Naru get jealous in the second episode on the disk, implying that she actually likes him although she will not admit it.

The third episode introduces a new character Kentaro. Kentaro is a classmate of Naru. He tries to steal the heart of Naru. The story slowly moves here since everything is done in virtual reality. It is funny to see Keitaro fail in his own fantasy.

The fourth episode is where I take away 1 star. This is where Motoko goes into a dream state and we are viewing her dream. We see her interact with characters from the show who appear to be in some RPG similar to dungeons and dragons. This was a boring episode.

Even though I give this particular disk 4 stars, I still would recommend the show. I would say this is a romantic comedy. The other anime I would recommend which would be similar would be Maison Ikkoku and coming later in the year would be Marmalade Boy. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.

Summary: Average anime with no huge breasts
Review: Comedy anime isn't really my thing. I'm an EVA style anime freak instead. Now I know that there are a lot of you out there eager to collect (if not watch) every new anime release coming from Japan. After all, sometimes that's me. But slow down and consider what you're watching. "Love Hina" is an anime sit-com. It reminds me of "Three's Company" set in a scateboarding universe. The animation is so-so, I've seen a lot better. The story pace is quick, almost too caffienated. What makes this show fun to watch is the love story. You watch it hoping (cheering, pulling for, pleading...) that Naru and Ketaro will stop crashing into each other and start falling FOR each other. Romantic sit coms do the same thing (Friends). I just don't know if this kind of writing is enough to keep the show afloat. If there were better animation sequences, more subtleties, less gravity defying Ketaros...

Summary: Go west ! was cool ......warning contains spoilers
Review: Go west was actually entertaining when they all were zapped into what looked like a superfamicon with sharp edges, it was funny to see them interact as video game characters, they could change from there regular form to chibi form, all except Motoko-chan,she was dressed just like Zena Warrior Princess..A little provacative for a 15 yr old but hey, look at what they wear to a nsync concert...lol

The story line is basically Naru has been kidnapped by 2 evil warlords(the 2 geeks)and its up to Keitaro to get her back..Super Mario anyone... but everyone know they are trapped in this silly dream, except Keitaro...Motoko_chan has a quiet conversation with her small self and realized that it was her dream all along...everyone was in the famous sand box calling her to come over to play and so she reversed her age and became 3or 4 again and went to play and everyone disapeared and she freaked out and was scared to be alone and ran back to the main front room and everyone was asleep laying on or around Keitaro and funny enough the game was over on the screen and it had 2 characters a knight like man, looking like Keitaro and a princess in bridal gown looking like Naru-senpai...

Summary: Underachieving series w/ some good bits; Naru is unpleasant
Review: I like lightweight romantic comedy well enough. I'm no fan of anime slapstick, but I can tolerate it in a show that displays compensating virtues like tight plots, funny parodies, and good characters (e.g., Slayers Next).

Pros: Love Hina has beautiful animation and character designs, plus a promising (if hardly inventive) setup: loserish ronin Keitaro becomes manager of dorm full of colorful girls. The Japanese voice cast is uniformly excellent. Two of the minor characters are great: Keitaro's wry, chain-smoking aunt Haruka (Megumi Hayashibara), a real cool type; and Mutsumi, about whom more in a sec.

Cons: Love Hina has two serious, recurring problems. (1) Indifferent writing. Too much repetition of the same tired gambits. Keitaro walks in on one of the girls without knocking, someone misconstrues his intention, and he gets beaten up. Yawn. (2) The female lead, and putative object of the male viewer's desire, pretty Naru Narusegawa, is in fact not likeable. I realize we're all supposed to focus on her occasional decent moments and see the "heart of gold" underneath all the casual cruelty and immaturity, but it's too little, too late.

The Naru problem gets particularly acute after episodes 5-6, included in this DVD, because we now meet her chief rival for Keitaro's affections: dizzy, sweet Mutsumi Otohime. There is more to the lovely Mutsumi than first meets the eye (do you *really* think she was oblivious to the likely effect of that kiss on the beach?), but with all her quirks, she is decisively more appealing than Naru, and that screws up the equilibrium of the series. C'mon, guys, you've gotta make it a *horse race* for the male viewer's affections.

I don't mean to overanalyze, but what does this paradox, and Keitaro's incorrigible wishy-washiness and loserdom, tell us about young Japanese male subjectivity? Why so masochistic?

A guy on Ars Anime summarized the Naru issue well. I'll finish by simply quoting excerpts from his post.

"Why in the name of capitalism did Keitaro choose to go with Narusegawa instead of Mutsumi? I mean, she's physically abusive, [jealous], not open about her feelings, thinks he's . . . dum[b], and is generally immature. I realize that the two of them getting together was the entire point of the series, but the creator doesn't make it make any sense. Any guy with half a brain would've gone with Mutsumi. She's gentle, affectionate, open about her feelings for Keitarou, has a kinship with animals & spirits, more mature about her sexuality, and, lets face it, she's stacked. ... She loves [Keitaro] enough to let him choose the path in life that will lead him to happiness (with Narusegawa). What kind of twit would ... choose an abusive child over a caring woman?"

Indeed.

Series overall, as brightened by Mutsumi and Haruka: 3 to 3.5 stars. Series without them: 2 to 2.5 stars.

Summary: morons, misunderstandings and a dash of martial arts
Review: I love this series. It reminds me of the Urusei Yatsura OVAs and the first season of Ranma 1/2. Episode 5 was the point I decided I just HAD to own this series. After that it just gets more bizarre and amusing as the series progresses. If you like slapstick romantic anime, then buy this series now.

Summary: All about Keitaro...
Review: Keitaro goes on a vacation, Keitaro's first kiss, Keitaro's true feelings. Must everything be about Keitaro? Sure, he's now manager of the apartments, but he failed his latest entrance exams and seems to have gotten into even MORE trouble than before with Naru (all because they can't see).
Then there seems to be a wild adventure set in a video game world, in which only Motoko seems to be normal or maybe she is the only one who can't get into it?
Add the extras and you have a weird DVD. Love isn't just blind, it's totally twisted!
