Description:
Fans of this rollicking sci-fi Western discovered that its hero, Vash the Stampede, wasn't human when he loosed a blast of energy that burned a huge crater in the Fifth Moon in episode 16. "Rem Saverem" reveals that he and his twin brother, Knives, were raised aboard a ship seeking new worlds for ecological refugees. Vash's awareness of his alien nature--and the example of their loving substitute mother--taught him compassion for all living things. Knives grew cruel and bitter, mocking the humans he despised as his inferiors. Are they angels? Aliens? Itinerant preacher and gunslinger Nicholas Wolfwood finds Vash living in a two-bit town, trying to forget the Fifth Moon incident. Although he seeks peace and anonymity, Vash can't stay hidden for long: who else would strip in the town square (revealing hideous scars) and act like a dog to prevent a bandit from harming someone? In "Hang Fire," Meryl and Milly of the Bernardelli Insurance Society are reassigned to "Vash duty." It's a happy reunion, although they're all reluctant to reveal how glad they are to be together again. But trouble is just over the horizon: Legato Bluesummers's plot to destroy Vash is advancing like a juggernaut. Contains these episodes: 17. "Rem Saverem," 18. "Goodbye for Now," 19. "Hang Fire." Rated 13 Up for violence and brief nudity. --Charles Solomon
