Description:
The nutty crew of the redoubtable space ship Nadesico pursue the war against the invading Jovian Lizards as this rollicking sci-fi comedy continues. Typically nonplused computer scientist Ruri sets the tone for these episodes when she notes, "What began as a love triangle is now, by my calculations, a septagon." Most of the female crew members are pursuing fry-cook-turned-pilot Akito; when they try to cook for him, they almost poison him and his cabin has to be fumigated. The only way for Akito to get a decent meal is to cook it himself. But Akito has little time to spend in the kitchen: he's too busy piloting his mecha suit, rescuing a secret agent with a surprising identity, and destroying the Walking Stick, a new Jovian superweapon. In the hilarious "Those Unforgettable Days," Omoikane, the Nadesico's computer, develops psychological problems that cause it to target allied ships as well as enemy vessels. Akito is sent into the computer in a cyber-adventure that hinges on his knowledge of the imaginary mecha series "Gekigangar III"--an outrageous spoof that captures the look of '70s TV animation, down to the Xeroxed lines. Who knew interplanetary warfare could be so much fun? Contains these episodes: 9. "The Miracle Operation of the Kiss," 10. "The Dangers of Femininity," 11. "Finding Yourself in a Routine Plot," 12. "Those Unforgettable Days." Unrated; suitable for ages 10 and up for minor sexual innuendoes and violence, largely restricted to robot versus robot. --Charles Solomon
