Summary: A lion is biting my leg off...somebody call a cop!
Review: For years Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner did their classic comedy routine abut the 2000 Year Old Man, a crotchety old man who has a long list of things to complain about. Brooks does the old man and Reiner the interviewer who asks the set-up questions. What is neat about this video version is that animator Leo Salkin took a live concert recording of the comedy routine and came up with his own visual interpretation of the bit, throwing in plenty of his own animated gags just to keep the comedy rolling. The original routine is hysterical enough, but Salkin simply layers on more laughs. Just think of this as the original "Fun With Audio" video!

Summary: Great comedy ruined
Review: Get tapes or CDs of this fabulous material. Forget the VHS/animation; it severely distracts from the great comedy. The extra touches and music on the VHS are downright annoying.

Summary: 2000 Year Old Man
Review: Mel Brooks' classic comedy skit, the 2000 Year Old Man, is a fine example of humor. However, this DVD was most definitely NOT worth the twenty bucks I had to shell out for it. The animation quality was horrible by any standards, and it distracted from the quality humor of the skit. In addition, several parts were left out of the movie. In conclusion, you would be far better off buying a CD collection.

Summary: 2000 Year Old Man
Review: The 2000 year old man is a classic comedy routine by Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks. Reiner is the straight man as an interviewer to Brooks' recently discovered 2000 year old man. The original comedy bit is matched up to appropriate animation, illustrating the man's memories that he shares with Reiner. Our 2000 year old citizen laments bad choices, wishing he had gone into the Cross business instead of sticking with making Stars of David, "Who knew it would be such a hit?" trashing historical and mythical figures (Robin Hood) "stole from everybody and kept everything" and dispensing advice for long life, "I never run for a bus." When the 2000 year old man lists saran wrap as mankind's greatest achievment a stunned interviewer asks, "what about space?" to which he replies, "that was good." The inflections in the voices and the comedic timing is a joy to experience, a perfect duo. Truly marvelous and belongs in your permanent collection.

Summary: Classic 1960's comedy
Review: The material is a little dated, (the reference to Idlewild airport as opposed to JFK) but there are some real funny moments in this tape that you will remember for a long time. I guess this was once a half-hour TV special so I was a little disappointed by the length, about 23 minutes. However it is a very, very good 23 minutes and if you are a Mel Brooks fan, you'll probably do what I did, watch it a few times immediately.
