Review: FROSTY THE SNOWMAN is one of those animated classics that you have grown up with since the 60's (made in 1969 ) and have seen every year on television everywhere. Fun and full of music to that old familiar song written by Steven Nelson and Walter E. Rollins.Narrated by the legendary Jimmy Durante ( That'sEntertainment, It'a A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World). The voice talents amazing and sincere ad the whole film looks like a Christmas Card. There is even an introduction to the film on this DVD by creator Rankin of the Rankin-Bass company who produced many of the beloved Holiday Classic Stories like - Jack Frost, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer to name a few. Produced by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin, Jr. and written by Romeo Muller. A must for every home during the Holiday season. Also on this DVD is the sequel Frosty Returns - not half as good both in story or animation but contains the voice talents of John Goodman, Jonathan Winters and Andrea Martin. I see what they were gong for, but they really missed the mark. Frosty The Snowman is a classic and every child should see this one! A classic that gets better over time! (12-22-02)

Review: Frosty the Snowman is simply superb! It's another of author Romeo Muller's 16 animated Christmas films--all of which are splendid and marvelous. Jimmy Durante is a most endearing narrator and singer here, and the enchanting story of Frosty is both humorous and heart-tugging. Watch it, and learn why there's magic in Christmas snow! You'll also enjoy the sequels by the same author, "Frosty's Winter Wonderland," narrated by Andy Griffith; and "Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July," narrated by Mickey Rooney as Santa Claus.

Frosty Returns:A dud.The animation is sloppy and there is no plot.This story tries to be as good as the Rankin-Bass "Frosty",but falls flat on its face.This Frosty is just a fat snowman with no personaltiy and an annoying voice.My advice is to just watch the original "Frosty",and to just ignore this dull sequel.

Review: FROSTY
This is a great Christmas classic. It's on TV every year, and though I've seen it at least 10 times, I still have to watch it. It just helps make it the Christmas season. FROSTY RETURNS
I was excited about seeing this for the first time. When I watched it, I was very disappointed. I did think that it presented a modern spin on the old classic (environmentalism, self-esteem). These are good things to teach children, but I don't think that is worked as a sequel to the original.

Review: Here we go with yet another Ranking-Bass movie for the holiday season, and how can you go wrong with Jimmy Durante narrating this wonderful tale, and Jackie Vernon's voice to the unassuming Frosty the Snowman, and of course Billy De Wolfe's voice to the magician, and the classic, "Busy, busy, busy."
This is a little mild compared to what we see today. There aren't lots of special effects and stupendous musical scores, or suspense or car chases. Just a nice little tale about Frosty the Snowman, and the children who love him, and it's all based on that beloved song we all know so well.
Your kids will love it! My family still does!!!

Summary: Feel Like A Kid Again.
Review: I am 25 but a big baby so to speak. I hate having to wait to catch the Rankin/Bass Christmas Classics on TV so I bought all the DVDs. You know that feeling of waiting all year only to find out you missed this year's 'Frosty'? I hate that. This film has so many great qualities I don't know where to start. But the most important quality is that you can curl up under the covers with some hot chocolate and feel like your 8 years old wondering what Santa will bring you this year. I like that feeling and I like this movie. If you are looking for something timeless and clean to have your kids watch this Holiday Season look no farther then "Frosty The Snowman" and other Rankin/Bass classics.

Summary: Frosty Returns reflects American youth attitude!
Review: I can't believe this movie. I'm watching it on TV right now after sending my son to take a bath! Thankfully I didn't waste my money buying this abomination. What happened to the genuinity of the Holidays and the innocence of childhood? Would a more loving cast of characters, like in the original Frosty, not 'sell' to todays children. Does poor behavior and lack of respect in todays youth need more negative influence? I think we need quite the opposite! Media like this is totally iresponsible and should NOT be supported by sales. They HAD to bundle the set, otherwise nobody would buy Frosty Returns...pathetic!

Summary: "Frosty Returns"...My Gawd...
Review: I caught "Frosty Returns" last night on TV. For a while, I was wondering why all the bad talk about the sequel. I saw it when I was in the 3rd grade, and I had no problem with it. Now, after seeing it more than 10 years later, I reached a conclusion: I must have been really been mentally handicapped back then if I once thought that this was passing for entertainment!
I should begin with the original "Frosty the Snowman" (haven't seen "Frosty in Wonderland", so I can't comment on that). It may not be as well written as the other holiday classics like "Rudolph", "The Small One", or the Peanuts special, but it has just as much heart as the others. The scene where the little girl weeps after the snowman melts in the glasshouse is just as touching as Linus' recitation of the Bible verse in the Peanuts special. The animation is crisp, the voice acting is excellent (particually Billy De Wolf) and the songs are catchy. It's a holiday classic in its own right.
Before tearing into "Frosty Returns" a new one, I would like to begin by saying some of the good things from the otherwise dismal half-hour. The voice-actors in this are very talented-particually SNL veteran Jan Hooks as the mother. Johnathon Winters, Brian-Doyle Murray, Andrea Martin and John Goodman were all ok. Even the kid actors weren't irritating. The "SchoolHouse Rock"-like animation was all right, and even lovely in some areas (although Johnathon Winters elf-like character is kinda creepy ). And sometimes (but certainly not all the time!)the music by Mark Mothersbaugh is above average.
But boy, does this thing reeks with political correctness and stale writing. Frosty returns, only this time instead of lightening up Christmas for the kids, his comeback consists of shoving down some eco-terrorist agenda down our throats. He and his followers battle against the community's attempt to rid snow from thier city, which is aided by a snow-depletion product made from an evil corporate boss (you can tell he's evil by the fact of how old and ugly he is, and the devilish cat that follows him everywhere. Subtlety is not this special's strongpoint). While this is taking place, no holiday, certainly not Christmas, is mentioned. Instead the town is excited about the "Winter Festival". Blech.
First of all, I side with the adults in this production. Sure, snow is great, but isn't it dangerous when it's laying around on the street waiting to cause car accidents? That's a noble cause to me. Plus, who really needs snow to celebrate Christ-oops, I mean, the "Winter Festival"? The lack of snow doesn't hinder Florida nor any other dry state from celebrating the holidays. What a stupid conflict for a movie.
That's not all; John Goodman's song at the end is sure to make ears bleed (who the hell thought he could sing?!). The slapstick by the bad guy and the adults would make the Three Stooges roll over their respective grave. The irresponsible sub-plot of the little girl sticking the Snowman in the fridge (and then having the snowman walk away unharmed and cracking a joke about the experience. I wonder how many kids killed themselves repeating this stunt). The nadir of "Frosty Reurns" for me happens when the evil corporate boss "raps" to a constipated beat about his intention of ruining the "Winter Festival". Yes, you read right. He raps. Excuse me while I spew.
Throughout all this, I kept wondering who would let anyone desecrate the memory of Frostly like this. Then the credits rolled, and up on my screen was "Executive Producer-Lorne Micheals". Hey, I got an idea: Let's have Micheals replace every Rankin-Bass production with his P.C. versions!
"Tune in next year, when Lorne Micheals' 'Rudolph Returns', starring Tina Fey as the new voice for the reindeer, permanantly replaces the Rankin-Bass original! Happy Winter Festival!"

Summary: Frosty Good - Frosty Returns Bad
Review: I purchased this as part of a bundle, including other Rankin-Bass gems "Rudolph," "The Little Drummer Boy," etc. Frosty the Snowman is a delightful, if not cornball, Christmas time gem. It does benefit from the DVD transfer, and if you enjoyed it as a kid, you'll enjoy it again here. Frosty Returns, however, is a piece of unmitigated "politically correct" garbage. If there was a way to erase a portion of a DVD, I would be the first to consign "Frosty Returns" to bit land oblivion. The storyline of "Frosty Returns" is something straight out of a Karl Marx Productions playbook. Here are some of its thematic leftist cliches : * A very bad industrialist wants to profit from evil, destroying snow forever, and by extension our hero Frosty. * The adults are painted as selfish and "mean-spirited" dolts. * The children know better than the adults, and plot to bring about their snowy utopia despite their elders' resistance. * The word "Christmas" is not mentioned once in this video refuse, and is replaced with a PC appropriate, if not pagan, "Winter Festival." I could go on, but you get the picture, so no need to view it on your TV screen.

Review: I was 4 years old when Frosty the Snowman had it's first network showing and I remember many other Christmas times of my childhood watching it on TV. I loved it than and I love it now and think it's one of the nicest Christmas cartoons I have ever watched and now I have it on DVD and I still love just as much jnow as when I was a little girl! Now for Frosty Returns, I first watched it on TV a couple of years ago and like so many other fans of Frosty the Snowman I didn't like it and if it hadn't been included with the Frosty the Snowman DVD I probably would have still disliked it but I watched it again and I actually liked it, it's not as good as the old classic but I will admit it's better than I first thought and I'm glad I also own it on DVD and I'm looking forward to watching both cartoons this Christsmas season! Individually I would rate Frosty the Snowman 5 stars and Frosty Returns 4 stars!
