Summary: IS IT GOOD ENOUGH?
Review: I HAD SEEN THIS MOVIE FOR SEVERAL MONTH AGO, BUT I DO NOT THINK THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE. EVENTHOUGH THE CG AND 2D ANIMATION SKILL CAN COMBINE ALMOST PERFECTLY, BUT I THINK THE STORY IS TOO POOR. I THINK THE SKILL THEY USE IS THE FUTURE PROCESS OF ANIMATION WORLD, BECAUSE CG CAN NOT REPLACE ALL 2D ANIMATION. BUT I THINK THIS SKILL IS NOT THE LASTET SKILL. THIS MOVIE JUST MAKE THOSE TWO ELEMENTS LOOK BETTER. THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. BECAUSE OF THE POOR STORY, THIS MOVIE CAN NOT MAKE VIEWER SEE THIS MOVIE SECOND TIMES,THAT IS WHY I ONLY GAVE THIS MOVIE 3 STAR.

Summary: Combines some of the best animation with a tight story
Review: James Cameron, director of films such as Terminator 2 and Titanic, was not kidding when he said that this is the film that will change digital animation. There is a blending of CG and 2d cell drawings that provides a remarkably eerie atmosphere.

Of course, if visual effects were all that were important in a movie, 1999's Godzilla would be like "Gone with the Wind." Obviously, it's the story, characters, and other added aspects that make a movie a classic. The main character, Saia, is a vampire hunter (not unlike a certain blonde on American television) who cleaves her way through high school vamps with a wicked samurai sword. She's referred to as "an original", which could suggest either a deeper plot or just a lousy Japanese translation. Blood, for me, provided a great mix of interesting characters and a terse atmosphere, and a story that just begs for further exploration in a series format.

A few warnings though. In case the title doesn't tip you off, "Blood" can get a little graphic. Also, some anime purists may be dissapointed to learn that there are large segments of the film's dub in English, but the film is split about halfway with English dub and English subtitles. Finally, Blood is rediculously short, especially considering how exciting it is.

I highly reccomend this film to those with an interest in an emerging technology, and fans of the anime genre. If you can stomach this film's very slight flaws, you'll find yourself leaving the theater with "Blood" lust.

Summary: Short trip to Animae Heaven
Review: the ONLY reason I couldn't give it 5 stars was the shortness of it (47 minutes) and a problem that won't affect you if you order it here, (I got my copy in Chinatown in San Francisco..so the Menu wasn't in English either) but I got used to it and the story is wonderful...you ALMOST don't even need subtitles...I hate bad English dubs at first I looked wondering if I had screwed up the settings but noticed the words actuallyt matched the lips moving (yes in a cartoon!!!) At first I had mixed feelings about it but as time went on it made more and more sense an American Base in Japan (off base Japanesse was spoken...on base, English) made the already realistic CGI-based animation even more realistic.....like I said though due to it's brevity, charactor <sp?> development could be better....but at the costs of the animation I could see why it was so short....some scenes I REALLY had to look HARD to tell it wasn't photograph footage...

Summary: man, that was short
Review: Is this movie or an episode? 45 minute movie is not a movie!! I felt short changed. Anyway, the animation is awesome... it reminds me of "Ghost in the Shell" and "Jin-Roh" animation style. I love how they intergrate CG with hand drawn animation. Two thumbs up for the animation and one thumb down for the story and plot.

Summary: Could have been a Masterpiece
Review: I have been hearing a lot of buzz surrounding this movie so when I heard it was being released on DVD I knew I had to get it. It was from the makers of "Ghost In The Shell" and that was one of my favorite animes of all time, so I was expecting a lot from the the plot line and visuals. Well the visuals far exceeded anything I had seen in an anime, besides "Submarine No.6", the computer graphics was intergrated well with the character cells. The plot line was very intriguing, but left a lot of questions to be answered, hopefully they will prepare a sequel to answer some of these. The music was also top-notch and went well with the action in the movie. Another gripe I have is that the movie is entirely too short, they should have spent more time explaining some details in the movie. Well if you like great animation, than this movie is definetly for you, but if you like story lines that aren't vague and are easy to follow, than you might want to stay away from this one. Lots of blood and action will placate those who love action. Not a bad buy, but check out movies like "Ninja Scroll", "Akira", or "Vampire Hunter D", if you like vampire movies, before you get this one.

Summary: Team Oshii does it again!
Review: Overall this is another great film worthy of the "Team Oshii" name. The mix of digital animation and standard cell animation is extremely well done and the two styles blend together quite well (unlike in previous attempts - such as "Blue Submarine No.6"). The action scenes are suprisingly cinematic and some of the best I've ever seen in anime. The music owes it's inspiration to Hollywood as well - and as such, is some of the best heard in even big budget anime. Even the voice acting (much of which is originally in English) is dead on. So why 4 stars instead of 5? There are still a few major problems with the film that hold it back from being as good as it could have been. The first is that the mouths are animated terribly - they don't quite sync up with the speaking sometimes and look awkward on the characters' faces when seen up close. Secondly, the movie is WAY too short, as you've probabally heard elsewhere, as they could have done so much more with the story. My final complaint ties in with the previous one, as it too regards the story. When the movie opens you know nothing about the characters or the mystery of what's going on at the base. At the end of the movie you still know very little -execept you've seen alot of cool action scenes. True, much anime suffers from this syndrome, but with "Blood" it's that much more painful, as they could have kept you entertained for much longer had they taken the time to explore the mystery a little more and explain some of the backstory. On top of this, the ending seems like a desperate attempt to give the movie some sort of meaningful message, but unfortunately the metaphor doesen't quite work.
So, here's my summary: if you liked "Patlabor", "Ghost in the Shell" or any of Oshii's other flicks, you'll probabally enjoy this. If you're some sort of freak otaku who doesen't like Oshii, you might still like this (especially if you're into the horror stuff). As it stands, it's not the best work produced by Oshii, but it certaintly makes for a nice addition to the catalog.

Summary: Wanting more ...
Review: I was really excited to see this movie in the store and did know that 45 minutes would not be long, but I didn't know how disappointed I would be.

First, let me say that the anime and the action scenes are great. For what I was given, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Next, for the price I paid, I was rather upset. The reason I believe that most people said the movie was too short (even though the box does give the time) was because you just start to really get into the movie ... it ends.

The movie left me feeling lost and empty. I needed to know what happens .. I needed .. well, closure. When you are not used to watching a movie with no real ending, you end up sitting there staring at the screen and hoping that maybe, just maybe, it will keep going ... sort of like a hidden track on a CD.

I was not happy with the ending and felt that it needed more. If this was a series or if I knew there was more to come, I would not have been so disappointed, but I have yet to see anything that states it will be continued.

I sold this movie shortly after I watched it. Definitely not one I would watch or spend money on again.

Summary: Dont Miss This
Review: It will leave you wanting for more. I thought I bought the one of the greatest anime. It builds, then it leaves you hanging, wondering. Why? Not because it doesnt have an ending, it does...but desiring more of the animation, the story. You'll want to know what was before and if there is an after. To some (like me) it was frustrating, no, in fact very frustrating at first because it was too short to be considered a film. That was because you are enjoying it too much, every savouring moment..every lingering minute. The cost per minute is not worth it. But over time, as i rewatch it time and time again, i begin to feel I have gained more than I have lost. I am writing about the feelings of the film and not about film itself cause you can read about it elsewhere. Would you like this kind of feeling?

Summary: Not very good...
Review: Okay, for starters I DID read that it was 45 minutes long, and DIDN'T download 'Blood' from the net. I was quite excited about this film what with all the good press it had recieved and thought despite it's length of time, had given it a go think'n it'd be one of the best Manga films I will see. Man, how wrong was I!? The story plot, even for 45 mins is quite poor, and doesn't seem to make that much sense.
For instance the characters talk in English at one point, and then Japanese (or so I think anyway) the next, then the movie suddenly expects you to read the subtitles that appear whenever they feel like it!
Hiroyuki Kitakubo must've forgotten that in a film, there should also be character development too, instead there's none of that, and the main hero doesn't seem to hold that much confidence in the tougher situations that at times break out from a friggin' moments notice!
The reason that I would give this film two stars is that it does intrigue you to keep on watching, giving you a sense of surprise and interest of what happens at the end (which I won't spoil despite the low rating I've given it), and in that department that's where the beauty lies within. Also, the realism of the people and backgrounds are too bonus points.
But not much is offered in this tedious, lite-horror flick.
Sorry people, I guess I'm just thankful I rented it before so.

Not really worth the money...
