Summary: Mickey is Magical! As ALways
Review: Loved this collection of Mickey Mouse cartoons. Most of wish I wasn't even born when they were shown. Some I had seen.

The qulaity of the transfer is great. The colors rich and the stories are simple but entertaining and funny! I never knew how charming and funny Mickey Mouse realy was. Do you? Pluto, Donald and the gang (even Minnie) all have their moments. Plants, bugs, birds, bees and creatures of all kinds even come to life and help the story and the humor.

A lot of work went into putting this together. Like the Treasures for Disneyland too. Disney should do more of the Behind-The Scenes things like this. Things like going behind the scenes for the creation and development of the rides in park. Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Carribean, Space Mountain and more. Seeing the behind the scenes at Disneyland. Or the developement of Epcot or Disney/MGM.

They are all worth collecting.

Summary: Disney Finally Does it Right
Review: If you enjoy classic Disney animation, you will simply love the two disc set,"Mickey Mouse in Living Color". This compilation of Mickey Mouse cartoons is an example of how great DVD can be. It is also an example of the Walt Disney Company finally releasing some of its classic animation the right way-unedited and with the original title credits and endings. Even Leonard Maltin, who does the introductions (and who clearly loves Disney animation), doesn't allow himself to get in the way.

The colors are brilliant and the pictures are sharp for the most part. I was amazed at how good these cartoons look. Remember, they are 60+ years old.

Even the price is reasonable-26 cartoons of this quality on DVD for around $[money].

If you appreciate classic Disney animation, you can't go wrong with this set.

Summary: Fabulous Collection and Essential!
Review: This is a collection of the best of the Mickey Mouse color cartoons, and is worth the price for the inclusion of "Through The Mirror" alone -- which is so incredible (and you have to keep reminding yourself it was made before computers!). Every cartoon is a gem as far as content. The transfer suffers here and there -- some of the glorious old Technicolor seems to have lost its saturation. I don't know if that's because the negatives need restoration or they used just any old print that was handy. ("Pluto's Judgement Day" -- a fantastic Dantean vision of canine/cartoon Hell -- and a favorite -- looks like it came from a 16mm print). Leonard Maltin's intros are sometimes cloying, but he is a sincere fan, and you have to remind yourself not everyone knows as much about these films as us old hands to. All in all, a brilliant and absolutely necessary compilation -- with some real surprises included!

Summary: A Must-Have for any Disney Fan
Review: A must-have for any Disney fan, but I need Steamboat Willie, I need Runaway Brain. Let's hope Disney has more collections on the way. Mickey did some black and white shorts, and he's been in a few shorts since 1938.
I'd also like to see similiar collections for Goofy and Donald Duck.
(PS - I've just read that Disney is planning to release more titles in this series, including Mickey in Black & White, plus a Goofy collection)

Summary: A must have for students of animation
Review: Disney truly stands the test of time. Even in this age of CGI the talent and spirit that went into these films shines through. At ... the set is a great value. It includes behind the scene looks into the process that went into creating these masterpieces. Not only entertaining, but informative as well.

Summary: Compression artifacts hamper what would be a perfect set
Review: Want to see three and a half hours of uninterrupted Mickey Mouse? Buy this DVD set and you will have the chance. There are some nice introductions by Leonard Maltin, a few extras with Walt Disney, and tons and tons of cartoons. Donald, Goofy, Pluto and Minnie are in almost all of these cartoons. Being a big Donald and Goofy fan, I was really glad to see my old friends.

The animation is top notch, just like you would expect from Disney. The "plots" of these cartoons are kind of weak, but hey, they are between five and ten minutes long. I guess I was expecting more of a story from them than the collection of gags that were strung together. Oh well, they were entertaining anyway.

The audio on these DVDs is pretty good. It does sound a bit shrill compared to today's cinematic releases, but it is definitely high quality. The video looks good, but not great. There is a noticeable amount of compression artifacts throughout. Surprisingly, it looks like the quality of the film is very good, or it was somehow restored, but the compression artifacts were a distraction.

I really like this new trend in limited releases with a stamped number on the DVD. I am a sucker for a gimmick. This set is well worth purchasing, and with Disney stuff you ought to buy it while you can because it probably won't be available forever!

Summary: A worthy edition
Review: While not quite the jaw-dropping package that is "Walt Disney Treasures - Silly Symphonies," "Walt Disney Treasures - Mickey Mouse in Living Color" is an excellent package in it's own right. There is a good amount of cartoons, arranged chronologically. The focus is on Mickey Mouse, although his Goofy, Donald and Pluto are along for the ride in almost every cartoon. DVD is the ultimate presentation for anthologies, as you can click on the cartoon you want to watch without rewinding or fast-forwarding.

The visual quality of the cartoons is not pristine, but they are still better than anything I have seen before. A few of the releases are duplicated on other Disney DVDs. "Lonesome Ghosts" is on "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" and "The Band Concert" is on "Make Mine Music." However, the majority of the cartoons are exclusive to this DVD. There were a few that I had not seen before, and that was a real treat.

Personally, I enjoy the Leonard Maltin introductions. He has a honest enthusiasm for these cartoons that I think is suiting to the material. Like any fan, he is happy to see these old favorites in a nice presentation. Also, not being a Disney scholar, I learned quite a few things from his introductions that I didn't know.

While Mickey Mouse's color cartoons are fun, Walt himself admits that they had run out of ideas for the mouse by the time color hit. Donald and Goofy do all of the fun stuff. Like many people, I hope that Disney continues with this DVD series, and that "Donald Duck in Living Color" and "Goofy in Living Color" are soon to follow. I would also love to see "Mickey Mouse in Black and White" to appreciate the mouse at the height of his creativity.

Summary: A "Treasure" For Any DVD Collection
Review: Review 1 of 4 for the "Walt Disney Treasure Series"

Mickey, the mouse that started it all, comes to life in color. These were the first 28 color cartoons featuring Mickey. Mickey Mouse was the mouse that started it all, and he made and overnight star of himself and his creator, an alter ego, Walt Disney. His first color cartoon was the minni masterpiece, "The Band Concert." This collection starts when you put in the first disc. After the "Walt Disney Treasures" preview, you are in the theater and the curtian lifts on Mickey Mouse. Leanord Maltin will be your host, and will tell you the things you will be seeing at the corner of Mickey Avenue and Dopey Drive on the Disney Studio lot. When you get to the menu, you may play all, go to 1935 or the 1936 cartoon years. You may also choose to play the Easter Egg, "Walt and Mickey" T.V. excerpted from the Disneyland Story. There is also an extra cartoon named "Parade of Award Nominees" for the 1935 Oscar ceramony. Then you may use captions, and play the introduction. The cartoons on this disc are: "The Band Concert," "Mickey's Garden," "On Ice," "Pluto's Judgement Day," "Mickey's Fire Brigade," "Thru the Mirror," "Mickey's Circus," "Mickey's Elephant," "Mickey's Grand Opera," "Mickey's Polo Team," "Alpine Climbers," "Moving Day," "Mickey's Rival," and "Orphan's Picnic." The final thing on disc one is the pencil tests for "Mickey's Fire Brigade," "On Ice," and "Pluto's Judgement Day." After that, disc two goes in. The curtains part and you see a menu featuring the play all, 1937 and 1938 cartoons, captions, gallery of art, theatrical posters, and photos, and the "Mickey In Living Color" eaturette with Leanord Maltin. The featurette discusses the mouse that started it all. There is another eater egg here. It is the cartoon shown at the 1939 World's Fair. It was a promotional film for Nabisco named "Mickey's Surprise Party." The cartoons on this disc are: "Hawaiian Holdiay, "Moose Hunters," "The Worm Turns," "Magician Mickey," "Mickey's Amateures," "Clock Cleaners,"Lonesome Ghosts," "Mickey's Parrot, "Boat Builders," "The Whalers," "Mickey's Trailer, and "The Brave Little Tailor." This set comes with a booklet. This has a letter from Leanord Maltin and a list of features and "Treasures." The final thing is a postcard size lithograph. It is a reproduction of the 1935 theatrical poster for the short "The Band Concert." All of this comes packaged in a tin case. This set is limited. There are only 150,000 copies. So get yours before it runs out. You and your children will love "Mickey Mouse in Living Color." It is a "Treasure," for any DVD collector.
